JET-Anderson Swap Deal Close
Monday, 8th Jul 2013 09:15

The swap deal which will see Jay Emmanuel-Thomas move to Bristol City and winger Paul Anderson join the Blues should be completed today, according to reports in the West Country. Town assistant manager Terry Connor said on Saturday that progress was expected over the weekend after discussions between the clubs for the last fortnight.

Emmanuel-Thomas, 22, and Anderson, 24, are expected to hold talks with their prospective new clubs and undergo medicals today.

According to the Bristol Post, the deal thrashed out between the clubs over the weekend will see Town settle the remaining year on Emmanuel-Thomas’s contract.

The Blues are said to have been looking for a player plus cash arrangement — having paid in excess of £1 million for Emmanuel-Thomas when he signed from Arsenal — but have had to settle for just the player swap.

The midfielder played for Robins boss Sean O'Driscoll on loan at Doncaster and was initially targeted as a loan signing back in January. Londoner Emmanuel-Thomas joined the Blues in July 2011 and made 43 starts and 32 sub appearances, scoring nine goals.

Anderson, who wants a move back to the Championship following City's relegation to League One, started his career as a youth player with West Brom, before moving on to Hull City and then Liverpool in November 2005.

He spent time on loan at Swansea and Nottingham Forest — when he was linked with a move to the Blues - while with the Reds, before making the switch to the City Ground permanent in the summer of 2009 for £250,000.

The 5ft 9in tall former England U19 international moved on to Bristol City last summer, signing a two-year deal. He made 19 starts and 11 sub appearances for the Robins during their 2012/13 relegation campaign, scoring three goals.

Meanwhile, Bristol City are not expected to offer former Doncaster Rovers midfielder Martin Woods a contract. Woods worked under Blues boss Mick McCarthy at Sunderland and was reported to have been offered the chance to join Town as well as the Robins during pre-season training.

I agree with you Mark but lets hope now we have a management team that the mistakes of recent times are behind us.

What on earth has Jet done on the pitch for the last two years that makes you think we would get a fee. A sub for a mediocre championship side hardly makes him a top prospect.

Desperately hope this goes through, Forest fan whose opinion I trust described him as "fast and hard working". Bristol fans consistently describe him as an effort player with a good attitude. This is exactly what we need at the moment and I trust Merlin and TC to get the best out of him.

JET has been a touch unlucky for us, but he remains a luxury player with no guarantee of fulfilling his potential. Anderson however is player that neither their fans nor the club want to lose, but the player wants away to play football at this level.

The lack of insight some of you show is staggering.

I'm sorry it didn't work out for JET and wish him well for the future.

In terms of the financial aspect, if no one came in for JET it was always likely we'd pay up his contract (I wouldn't be surprised if we do the same with Chopra) at least in this deal we get a new player as well and obviously no one else wanted JET or they would have come in over the last fortnight.

I hope that JET does well at Bristol City. He will have more time, space and games to work on his abilities, and he is a terrific person. All the best to him.

I hope that we don't hear reports of wonder strikes which flash over the crossbar or just wide, as this will show that he has not progressed. I hope he doesn't flatter to deceive over there, as I want him to do well.

Every signing we have made this summer has been described as 'hard working' by the selling club's supporters. I can see us picking up many hard earned points next season.

matt..... he isnt Jordon Rhodes! Jet maybe has magic in him but he is a player we cannot afford to carry, a luxury on a decent wage that is better replaced with decent hard working players that will work for the team and not spend their time thinking of the next KEEK!

Souperjim - I totally agree. JET needs to go to a lower league club to hopefully kickstart his career again, he won't do it a PR, he needs that fresh start. Chops you can feck off. If I had the money I'd pay your outstanding wages just to get rid of you from ITFC. Another player with great potential but alas preferred to bad mouth the fans and bring a bad name to the club, not a great example for our academy players to look up to. No more to be said.

Can anyone really say JET has done well when he's had his opportunities? Has shown flashes of his talent but on far few occasions in my opinion

Disappointing that we're letting a player like JET walk away, in fact paying him to do so!

On the other hand we are getting supposedly a more conventional winger, something we haven't had for years. Let's hope he's good. Time will tell if we've made a good swap here.

Cheers JET, you frustrated me as much as the next fan but it was a pleasure to watch you at times. Unfortunately people don't seem to appreciate entertainment and natural talent as much anymore.

Just want to really thank JET for that block he made against Leicester! Big 3 points that game was. However, like many others have pointed out, he is very inconsistent. Even though I had a season ticket last season, I still hardly saw much of him. If MM and TC can't get the best out of him, not many others can. I wish him well for the future if this does go through, and welcome Paul Anderson!

Lots of comments saying how talented Jet is, if he was that talented he would be kept, high wages or not. If he was that talented other clubs other than just 1 league 1 club would want him. A real talent is to perform consistently, they are the sought after players.

I think Mick knows exactly what he's doing and I for one trust his vision and ability as a manager. Come on you Blues!!

So many negative comments. I think MM and TC know what they are doing, they have been in the game a long time so get behind their decisions. JET hasn't had many good games, he is not consistent at all, just a luxury player. Anderson sounds like the opposite, hard working and consistent and a proper winger. JET clearly hasn't done it since he has been here so why does everyone suddenly think he will start now? Lets just move on, JET has given us some great moments, 5-1 against West Ham comes to mind. But things clearly haven't worked with him in the side.

In Mick we trust!

bluearmy78 .. JET has played 75 times in 2 seasons how is that hardly featuring ,how many games are we playing a year ?
I do not understand this deal at all ,if we have to pay his wages why don't we keep him ?
We may as well let him run his contract down and buy Anderson ?
We are also getting rid of an attacking player who has a 1 in 5 games started scoring ratio for an injury prone player with 1 in 6.33 and less assists ?
Don't get the deal

Do people think MM has never made a bad decision in football ? He is like any manager some signings will be good others poor ,some released players will succeed elsewhere others will drift away . I do not agree with MM and TC know what they are doing on every count just because they have been doing it for a long time rubbish ,if that was the case they would be managing a lot higher than us and would never have been sacked for poor decisions surely ?
And this doesn't mean I don't think MM has done fantastic for the club and will continue to do so ,I just feel fans are allowed to question some decisions without the "" MM and TC know what they are doing ""

Hope this deal happens.MM is just removing players with no team work ethic. The so called highly talented players that didn't care about the club position 6 months ago.We as supporters need to acknowledge the job MM and TC have already accomplished in their short time here-on the brink of catastrophe under reigns of RK and PJ to, I believe a good shot of a top six finish this coming season.

While I wish Jet well when he moves on I just hope that this deal is completed today. Jet is far to much of a luxury player and we can't afford to keep luxury players if we are serious about getting out of The Championship.

I would much rather have a decent consistent grafter and genuinely versatile winger in Anderson than the King of Quacking on Twitter.
JET has big potential, which he has largely wasted in his 2 seasons here. Remember Anderson has potential too, he's only 24.
It comes down to whether you trust the manager on this.
I certainly do. Good decision and good move.
Now to off-load Pork-Chops and bring in another decent hardworking striker with potential and we should have a good all-round professional squad of players.

shame to see see jet go i like the guy who has shoot on site policy on his day world beater but so am i we need players who produce quality performances most the time and some subs who are impact players notjust when their mood suits this way the team n subs mick gettin will get us the promotion

Anderson fills a gap on a wing whilst I still don't know where I'd stick JET in a team.
As JET is no doubt on big money its a no-brainer for me even if I think Anderson is very average.
If JET does go all the best to him, it will show he values playing football more than the money which is to be admired.

I'm disappointed that JET is leaving he has shown that he can create scoring opportunities and is quick with the ball at his feet, yet again ITFC is going to lose a lot of the £1M+ they paid Arsenal for. This isn't good business sense to me, a player who has the potential to become a very good player, MM doesn't feel he can develop the talent JET possesses.........I'm sad to see him leave :(

mattb97. what a total pratt you are. the only problem mm has with jet is his inability to perform on a regular basis. to suggest that he is making nething other than a professional decision is both ridiculous and frankly insulting to mm. can only assume you feel the same about sir bobby then as he in his time rejected players such as gazza, ruud gullit, teddy sheringham, to name just 3. no, of course its nothing more than a professional decision and an opinion of the manager at the time. mm may be proved to be wrong on this(tho I doubt it), as was sir bobby in thosethen. fact is, it happens to every manager at some point, but to suggest nething more sinister than that is imo pathetic.

surco, you almost answered your own question. us paying him off is basically the fee we would have paid had we signed Anderson, difference is wed still have had jet here on high wages so weve actually saved money as im sure andersons wages will be less. oh, and how has jet scored 1 in 5? cant remember him scoring more than goals in the whle time he was here? but maybe that's because his form is so poor most of the time that my memory fails me
