Blues Weighing Up Lee Contract Friday, 26th Jul 2013 20:22
TWTD understands that boss Mick McCarthy is giving serious consideration to offering former striker Alan Lee a contract for the season ahead. Lee, 34, returned to the club earlier in the summer to begin coaching in the academy, but as reported this morning has been training with the first team this week.
Former Ireland international Lee was released by Championship Huddersfield Town at the end of last season after three years with the Terriers.
The Blues still have four frontline strikers despite having off-loaded Michael Chopra this week — David McGoldrick, Daryl Murphy, Frank Nouble and Paul Taylor — and we understand Lee is viewed as an additional option as cover or as an impact substitute.
The 6ft 2in tall frontman started his career with Aston Villa and spent time on loan with Torquay and Port Vale while with the Villans.
Galway-born Lee subsequently moved on to Burnley, Rotherham and Cardiff before joining the Blues for a fee £100,000 in January 2006. The striker, who is based at Dedham, went on to make 96 starts and 13 sub appearances, scoring 34 goals, prior to moving on to Crystal Palace in August 2008.
While with the Eagles he spent a short spell on loan at Norwich City towards the end of the 2008/09 relegation season.
Meanwhile, former Blues loanee Bilel Mohsni has signed a two-year deal with Rangers, having left Southend at the end of last season.

Give him a contract. There's some prats on here who hold his short time at Norwich against him. He always gave his all here, and self confessed lover of the area. I'd love to see him come on as a late sub, elbows out...
Never go back?...try telling the likes of Jonny Wark and Tommy Miller. AL said at the time he didn't want to leave....he did love the club and the area...he still lives at Dedham. I think we need to be big enough to get over his brief sojourn with the budgies. Whynot....what's the worst that can happen.
Some of you lot really need to get a grip. If we're taking him on as a coach what the hell is wrong in registering him with a squad number? You're suggesting that he's going to be in contention to being a first choice striker! He'll be a BACKUP option, an emergency option, as was Kennedy last season. He's hardly going to be on 10k, or even 5k a week is he?! No problem with this what so ever.
Makes a lot of sense to be honest ,would be for it in a big way as he gives us another option and lets face it he is miles ahead of that dirtbird scummer chopra ,go for it mick
Moving away from the Alan Lee story quickly (sorry)...does anyone else absolutely hate the crest on the new shirt. It feels and makes the shirt look really cheap. I'm quite dissapointed, I like the white sleeves tho. Can't wait to move on from Mitre shirts...
Coming back to a former club who have fond memories of you at the age of 34 is a dangerous idea. For his sake I hope he doesn't do it. Apart from that I'm desperate for Marriott to be given a chance at the very least, if he struggles then you think about this kind of thing.
I thought that the contract he signed as a coach might have already included keeping him registered as a player should he be needed. I think he's a handy backup to have to cover injuries, so long as his wages don't cost much. In reality he is unlikely to feature much being behind McGoldrick, Murphy, Nouble and Taylor plus any loan players who may join during the season.
Bring back Shefki if we're going to play dinosaurs. May be MM should have taken a chance on Moshni, he had a good goal scoring record at Southend for some one who played all over the place. Saw one goal that was a screamer, any way he'll be playing in front of 30,000+ every other week and probably 800 the other weeks. if MM didn't play him he could have sat with the fans and entertained them!
At least he will try when and if he is used unlike that s@ite hawk Chopra who did nothing on the sidelines but try and cause havoc and got paid well for it,makes sense to have him coaching and if needed he always has a big goal in him
He's not good cover and we have many better options before him. Nouble, Marriott should certainly be in the equation and especially now Taylor is back. If something was to go wrong with them, we would go to loan. Signing Alan lee is only a step backwards!!!!
