McCarthy: TC a Vital Part of Set-Up
Saturday, 12th Oct 2013 11:00

Boss Mick McCarthy says assistant boss Terry Connor is a “vital” part of his management team, having worked with the former striker at Wolves and now at Portman Road.

McCarthy says the man known as TC fulfils the same role as his former Barnsley team-mate and current Town scout Ian ‘Taff’ Evans did during his time as boss at Millwall, with the Republic of Ireland, at Sunderland and in his early days at Wolves.

Connor, who had been at Molineux in a variety of roles since 1999, took over as assistant boss in 2008 when ex-Wales international Evans moved into scouting.

After a brief spell as manager following McCarthy’s Wolves exit and a short period working under his successor StÃ¥le Solbakken, the pair were reunited at Town in November.

“He’s part of my set-up, he’s been a vital part of it for almost six years from when he took over from Taff, Ian Evans,” the Town boss said.

“And but for Taff I wouldn’t be sat here. That’s how important he was to me when I was at Millwall.

“So, to get somebody who has become just as important tells you how much I think of Terry and how highly valued he is by me and everybody else. He’s great.”

At last we have the right management team in place after a decade or so of cock-up's. The only shame is that in the time its taken to find MM & TC Marcus Evans's pockets seem to have run dry... That said we are in a better position now and it will taste that much sweater if we gain success through grafting rather than writing out a few cheques.

I have to admit, I can't recall our fans showing so much love for an assistant manager before. Terry Connor seems to have as many chants as Mick does. Can't remember any such affection being shown for Tony Loughlan or Chris Hutchings...!

@ipswichtillidie

Do we have to taste sweat to gain success? Is it our own or someone else's?

Think I would rather stay in the championship.

It so important that a manager has an exceptional number two/coach to rely on and to take the drills on the training ground. Bobby Robson knew this full well and his "never to be repeated" success at Town was surely down, in part, to the collaborative work of Cyril Lee and then Bobby Ferguson.

I would love to think that Mick and TC will be here for a number of years as I am confident they are steadily building a team and work ethic in the team that we haven't seen here for years.

Top Cat indeed. OK TC!!
I have been pleased from the moment that the Terry Connor announcement was made. I think he is a top coach (TC). COYB!!

I too really like the MM and TC partnership and indeed as indicated in a previous post if MM had the money previous managers had in the past few years I think we would be at or very near the top of the Championship already.
Looking forward not back, if MM did move aside for whatever reason I would like to see TC at the helm. I think the old boy would do well for us.

I hope these two remain here for years to come. Through the good times and the bad. Meaning even if things weren't to go to plan, I think these are the men to take this club to the premier league whether it be this season or in a few seasons to come
