Blues Leading Chase for Ebanks-Blake
Tuesday, 17th Dec 2013 23:56

Town increasingly appear to be heading the race to sign former Wolves striker Sylvan Ebanks-Blake. The 27-year-old frontman is a free agent with his Molineux contract having come to an end over the summer.

Ebanks-Blake, who Mick McCarthy took to Wolves from Plymouth for £1.5 million in January 2008, is believed to have been at Town today, reportedly having held talks with Burnley and Leicester in recent weeks, while Leeds have also been linked.

The Cambridge-born former England U21 international has been sidelined since April with a broken leg and ankle ligament damage and has been back with Wolves during the opening months of the season working on his fitness.

But with new manager Kenny Jackett unwilling to offer him a new contract, he is understood to be ready to move on to another club as he continues his rehabilitation.

Speaking last week, McCarthy confirmed that he would be interested in adding the frontman to his squad once he is fit, but expected strong competition.

“I think he’s progressing OK and is probably getting to the stage where he’s looking for a club,” he said.

“I spoke to him when I was up at Jody Craddock’s testimonial dinner at Molineux about four weeks ago and I think in January he’ll certainly be looking for a club, and there’ll be clubs looking for him, and we’ll be one of them.”

Great news! Why oh why do some of our supporters continue to look for every negative possible, what more do you want from our manager? He saved us from relegation last season and we are already on the verge of the play offs this season. I'm sure Mick knows what he is doing just a little bit more than you. Get behind these decisions! Ebanks-Blake has always impressed me. COYB!

Fingers crossed he can do a job. MM obviously rates him, and obviously knows his work rate, otherwise he wouldn't have had him in the first place.

Could be ideal, but only time will tell (if indeed he does sign).

IMWT.

What you about Pip! We need a poacher as there isn't anyone in the squad that is likely to look for any chances in the box. Just tell me how many penalties we have had this season? None! Why because none of our forwards are in the right places. As for Marroit, he'll get his chance soon maybe after a month at Div 1 side because at the moment he's only scoring for fun in lower league so is yet to handle quicker bigger and more experienced defenders.
If we get SeB then it will give team extra dimension and maybe just what we need to get into play-offs

Mick has been playing McGoldrick just behind Nouble and Murphy at times this season and i see this move as one that would push Nouble out and bring Ebanks Blake in. He is proven goalscorer and he gets on to nearly any ball played into him so he would be another DJ Campbell in my eyes. But he would bring more pace, strength and quality.

If Mick thinks he is worth a punt then im all for it, Mick's judgements have done us alright so far.

Cheltenham blue ' I base my opinion on seeing the lad play , what do you base yours on ? Apart from following the crowd ? Burley , wark , Dozzell , dyer , bent all made their debut at a younger age , don't recall them 'burning out ' and they were playing higher grade matches than we are now.

I would love to see Sylvan Ebanks- Blake sign. He has always looked a good player to me.

If Jack Marriott was as good and as ready for Championship football as others on here think and claim, Mick McCarthy would be playing him. Why wouldn't he?

The Taylor debate

He did well for Peterborough and looked good in the 3 games with us.
His return to Posh was not a great succsess according to the Posh fans (work in Peterborough) yet it help us get his fitness back, has he now lost the edge now he is back out of the team.
Jet never really did it in this league but look at him now with Bristol City, that what i expected from Taylor plus he seems to get distracted outside of football.

Ebanks Blake in and sell Taylor may not be a bad thing, However if Ebanks Blake struggles to get his form back he is no better than Taylor.

For me Taylor is another Jet, he has the potental to be a class player but can MM and TC get that out of him.

For sure this is the type of player we need. Someone to play up top and score. Didsy I think is much mor effective if he can roam around. So at the moment we are lacking the clear striker

Would stil like to see Marriott given a go, others like me are criticised for this opinion because you fear he's not ready. Well to you I say how do you know. Surely he deserve as opportunity to awake a claim. SEB will not be cheap. He could be the answer but he could end up another Chopra. Who knows, just want to see if we need to spend before we do.

The club does not have money to waste.

Other clubs have found gems by taking a chance. What have we to lose??
