McCarthy Misses Out on Manager of the Month
Friday, 10th Jan 2014 09:13

Town boss Mick McCarthy has missed out on the December Manager of the Month award, Derby’s Steve McClaren receiving the gong.

The Blues manager, whose side won three and drew three as they climbed into the top six during the final month of 2013, was nominated alongside McClaren, Birmingham’s Lee Clark and Nottingham Forest’s Billy Davies.

McCarthy was previously nominated for the December 2012 award but then lost out to Hull City manager Steve Bruce.

The last time a Town boss was named Manager of the Month was back in 2004 when Joe Royle picked up the award for November.

Since then Royle, Jim Magilton, Roy Keane and McCarthy have all been nominated but without winning.

Phew. We want to save that for the last month of the season. Does that put a curse on the first game of the new season I wonder?

More often than not, winning it isn't a curse. Sigh.

I'm not bothered if he never wins it. Frankly I'd happily accept him just getting nominated every month - better to be consistently good than have one outstanding month you can't live up to thereafter!

If a manager is nominated on the basis of results then MM was in with a chance but as for managing a team that plays football MM could not be in reality a serious contender, this is probably why he was not a serious candidate for the FIA job. As we have seen this week more & more foreign coaches are coming in & I expect Allardyce to go by the end of the season. British football is out of touch at grass roots level & people like MM only continue this with outdated tactics, lack of skills etc. MM has done his job at ITFC but I do hope he does not get a new contract because it is now getting to the point where I will no longer go to watch a team I have supported for over 50 years because of the total lack of entertainment.

Oh dear , it's Hegan rant time again. Please look at some old footage of Ireland and Wolves under Mick, and you will see that they played some terrific football. Unfortunately, you can only use the tools at hand and we are not blessed with sublimely gifted players at the moment. They cost money. We are a hard-working functional unit that wins matches, often very unprettily.
Never mind Hegan, perhaps Sir Royston will return on his white charger one day and get us promoted playing football Barcelona would envy.

Ok Hegan, let's sack Mick and bring back PJ. The results may be defeats every week, but at least it's more entertaining.

Agree Mick has been the best manager of Ireland since Charlton and the team played a lot more attractive football than the big Jack days!

Forgot Keano was nominated am manager of the month, must have been a mediocre month in the championship!

As several mentioned the other day,Steve McLaren deserved this award;as Derby far and away best team in Championship during December, and they play attractive football.
Notice he has lost the Dutch accent now lol !!!

McLaren deserves it but that team was built by Clough and I think a fresh voice and new ideas is why they are benefiting so much. Seemed like a harsh sacking but looks like the owners there got it right. Similar to what happened at Southampton with Pochettino.

Not sure everyone will like this post - but please DO NOT minus me. Instead please REPLY TO ME !

Just wondering why people say that Mick's football is so bad and negative ... we have scored more goals AS WELL as conceding fewer I think?? Forgive me if I am wrong - Please clarify what the moaning is about?

And yes I DO know that not every game has been brilliant - take Bournemouth away for example. But ignoring individual games the generalisation HAS to be that we are doing a lot better.

Hegansheroes - I certainly wouldn't disagree with you - but everything has changed about the Game, the Club, and the Supporters. This Club has a totally different breed of support today to what we were all about in the successful days of the Club, modern Supporters don't expect as much (surprisingly enough) as they once did,
the Club is no longer the 'Family Club' we once were, and the players (exception the odd few} are basically only in it for the benefit of themselves, not the love of the Game, or Club anymore.

We will always feel different - but they call it progress. I'm not so sure about that for one single moment.

Sad that we will always get criticised for seeing it differently - maybe it's because we were here when it was VERY DIFFERENT.
They even tell us to go elsewhere - that would never have happened in the past - but it does now.

That's the way it is today.
