Town loanee Paul Green has repeated his desire to make his loan switch permanent when he becomes a free agent in the summer.

Green admits he is unlikely to receive an offer of a contract extension at Leeds, where he was out of favour prior to joining Town last week on a loan deal through to the end of the current campaign.

In fact he was disappointed that the move didn’t happen the previous week, at the end of the January transfer window, and instead had to wait until the emergency loan window re-opened.

Green said: “We tried to get it through on the last day of the transfer window but for some reason at Leeds it just didn’t happen. It was good to get it done as soon as the loan window opened again.”

The 30-year-old midfielder also confirmed there had previously been interest in him from ex-Town boss Paul Jewell, who signed him from Doncaster for Derby County, during his time in charge at Portman Road.

He added: “I think there was interest but nothing ever materialised. It was nice to get a phone call from Mick to say he wanted me down here and it was a no-brainer really. I’m really looking forward to working under him.

“I am definitely open to the idea of coming here on a permanent deal in the summer. I’ve only been down here for a week but I’m already loving it. The lads are brilliant and it would be nice to get something sorted at the end of the season.

“I think my time is up at Leeds. I haven’t been involved much this year and that’s probably a big factor in whether I stay there next year. It would be nice to get something sorted — if not here then somewhere else.

“I enjoyed my time at Leeds. It’s my hometown club and I loved it there. The first year, when Neil Warnock brought me in, I played most of the games, but this year for some reason I’m out of favour. I did enjoy it there and it’s a shame that I couldn’t stay there.

“But it’s nice to be down here trying to help Ipswich to get into the play-offs. At my age you don’t want to be sat on a bench, you want to be playing games, and hopefully I can do that here.

"The lads have been doing well so I’ve got to bide my time and then hopefully take my chance when it comes.”
