Town defender Luke Chambers has revealed that the blurred vision which caused him to come off early in last week’s home win over Derby has been a problem throughout his career.

Chambers, who made way for on-loan Middlesbrough utility man Frazer Richardson in the 75th minute, said: “I had a sort of a migraine during the game and I couldn’t see anything out of my right side.

“When the ball was coming to me on that side I didn’t really know what was happening, so I thought with the game being on a knife-edge it would be better if I went off.

“I’ve had it quite a few times in the past to be honest and played with it but this was the first time in a couple of years. When I get a bad bang on the head, at the wrong angle, I seem to get it and my vision goes blurry.

“I also get pins and needles on my right side and on my hand so it’s not very nice. I also had a 24-hour bug on the Wednesday — I couldn’t get out of bed all day — but thankfully I was alright for the weekend and the game against Nottingham Forest. I was a little bit leggy, but okay.”

Chambers had to abandon his trademark fist-pumping celebrations at the end, with fellow defenders Christophe Berra and Tommy Smith taking over much to the delight of the North Stand fans.

He added: “I heard about that when they came in. I was still around after the game and they were like two little school kids. They were absolutely buzzing with it and it’s great to have that with the fans.

“They were the ones who seemed to initiate it and it’s great to oblige. Hopefully there will be a few more like that between now and the end of the season. I’m pretty sure Christophe and Tommy won’t be joining in with me again because they have made it pretty clear that it is my thing.

“At the end of the day we’re all in it together, players and supporters, so it should be like that. We always want to do our best for them but we can’t please everyone every week and individuals are not always going to be at their best every week.

“All the gaffer asks of us is that we give consistent performances every week. As a back four we haven’t changed too often this season because we have been giving consistent performances. That link with the fans, showing we are all in it together, is important.”

wkj added 06:09 - Apr 5 Sounds pretty serious to me. Like a sleeping giant is waiting to wake up. Mind you with the standard of medical scrutiny and care professional players go through I'm sure a bigger issue would have been discovered by now. Good to see him on the mend... up the town

wickfordtractorboy added 14:57 - Apr 5 I can sympathise with Chambo on that one, I've suffered from migraines my whole life and when you get a bad one they can be completely debilitating, with the headache, blurred vision and increased photo-sensitivity (even daylight feels like staring at the sun!) Can't say I've had them onset from a bang on the head but I don't do sport to the extend he does so it's possible that it can set them off. Hope it is nothing more serious and they do stay few and far between
