Good Friday for Town
Friday, 18th Apr 2014 17:11

Good Friday’s results went in favour of the play-off chasing Blues with Monday’s opponents Bournemouth and Reading losing and Brighton and Blackburn drawing. A win at Watford tomorrow would take Town up to sixth.

The Cherries, watched by Blues boss Mick McCarthy and assistant Terry Connor, were beaten 4-2 at home by Sheffield Wednesday despite the Owls having been reduced to 10 men at 2-2.

Reading, sixth going into today’s fixtures, suffered a significant blow to their play-off hopes as they lost 3-0 at Wigan, who cemented their fifth position. The result reduced the Royals’ goal difference to +10, now only two better than Town’s.

Brighton full-back Bruno scored an 83rd minute equaliser to see the Seagulls to a 1-1 draw at Huddersfield. The Sussex side are up to sixth ahead of Reading and Town by a point with their goal difference still +12.

Tenth-placed Blackburn, already outsiders for a top six place prior to today's fixtures, drew 0-0 at home to table-proppers Yeovil.

Elsewhere, Brentford confirmed their promotion from League One to the Championship, joining Wolves.

Meanwhile, Elliott Hewitt helped his loan club Gillingham to a 2-0 home victory over Tranmere in League One.

Jack Doherty's loan club Waterford United are in action against Shamrock Rovers at home in the Airtricity League First Division this evening.

Bournemouth are still in the mix but that loss at home against 10 man Wednesday must have been a real blow to their confidence.

Tomorrow is key for me. I'm not sure we need to win but we must avoid defeat.

Thanks to these results today I'm not too worried about tomorrow. Yes a win tomorrow would send us into oblivion being 2 points clear of Brighton, with a home game Monday, promoted Burnley will become what Leicester have and take their foot off the gas and then Wednesday at home the next Saturday.
Still if we draw level on points with Brighton which still leaves us in a very good position.
And if we lose brush ourselves down and go again Monday still being only 1 point off the playoffs.

Only way I will be bitterly disappointed is if we draw from a winning position.

But surely today's results have fired our boys up even more, and with us fans going down tomorrow in the masses in full voice. It probably makes us favourites for this game.

Against a passing outfit with Watford approach this game as we have done all our away games. Keep solid, quick on the counter and sneak a winner. The stats show against the passing sides this season we have been very successful! Can't wait for 3.00pm. COYB!!!

Wish I was heading to Watford with the rest of the fans, keep positive and keep the noise level up, you could be the difference.

On Sky bet Watford aren't even in the running for a top six finish but they still have a chance. Was nervy watching soccer special today, so we're in for an even more nervous day tomorrow! Like others have said it's in our hands now, especially if we can win tomorrow. COYB, they may be our bogey side but I'm feeling rather optimistic than normal about this one.
