McCarthy Prepared to Wait on Loans
Thursday, 12th Jun 2014 15:42

Boss Mick McCarthy expects to have to wait until late in the summer before Premier League youngsters are made available for loan. As was the case last year, Town’s summer business is likely to centre around the Bosman and loan markets.

“The players that will be involved in the World Cup will need a break so Premier League clubs will take all their best youngsters with them on tour and keep them through pre-season,” McCarthy explained to the club site.

“They will look at their young players and see if they are good enough to be involved next season, or whether they will benefit from going out on loan.

“There are definitely loan deals to be had with Premier League clubs and I don’t want to miss out on some of the good, exciting talent that could be available.

“Look at Jonny Williams and the impact he made here last season. How good would that be for us if we could get in a player of that standard on loan here?”

“It’s something that we are looking at and working towards, but it may require a bit of patience.”

The summer has got off to a quiet start with Town's only additions so far the signings of youngsters Darren McQueen and Ben Wyatt following their release by Tottenham and Norwich respectively.

If Mr Evans wished to put more investment into the playing squad he could , lets not hide behind FFP

Surco72, I dont get what you are saying it clearly says the owner can only put in 5 Million and Marcus is doing so. We can break the rules but I for one would not be happy having an indefinate transfer ban from the 1st of Jan 2015 this ban will be at least 2 transfer windows there is only one result that is going to happen from that and I dont think there is anyone on here who wants to see us in league 1

Blueboy surprise surprise surprise!

'Satisfied Charlies'???? Is that the best you can come up with? Anyone who doesn't share your Doomsday opinion on the club is a 'Satisfied Charlie'.

Who are we playing this weekend???? !!!!!

What??!! No game??? Okay next week then??? What??? The fixtures aren't even out yet????!!!!!!

Okay, so we dont need new players yet? Good, and is the manager making phonecalls all over the place to identify players?? Yes, probably. That's what he does. So in fact we probably have made some discreet and positive moves already?? Good. Okay then,

'WHATS THE PROBLEM???'

MM if you are looking for a creative young midfielder on loan you should get Ruben Lameiras from Spurs' U21 Team - incredibly talented player who would light up the Championship.

zumthor added 13:38 - Jun 13
we'll waste the summer if we wait for MM to get some decent players in. and by august they'll be even less interest in mid-table micks dealings.....and less people turning up to support ...again

Totalblue ... what I was trying to say was that if Mr Evans wanted to invest more and invest in players that put us in more of a position to challenge under MM for promotion. 1- if we get promoted we merely pay a fine to charity with the premiership millions we receive ,2- if we don't get promoted we get a transfer embargo when we have already signed better players to the squad to challenge anyway (why would this lead to league 1 ?) ,and we are then in a position where we cant sign anyone like we are now and rely on our youth players ?

So, just to be clear, you're saying 'break the rules' Surco72?

Surco72

You do spout some absolute rubbish at times . Breaking the rules wins no prizes !

zumthor added 15:24 - Jun 13
if the loans are any good they are recalled and we can't afford to sign them. if they aren't they sit on our bench taking up space which should be for our youngsters.

in mid-table mick we trust

bohslegend .. I am saying in life , especially business sometimes you have to break a few rules to achieve a final goal as your clip shows , Suarez broke the rules , Uruguay won the game and went through ?

Meekreech .. I would question your theory with Leicester and Qpr fans ?

Suarez broke the rules , Uruguay won the game and went through ?

Yes and lost their next game ultimately winning nothing and losing any little bit of respect anyone ever had for them.

Surco, what you are advocating is that the club takes a huge risk, fine the pay off might be huge but so might the repercussions, especially since as we know throwing money at it does not always equal promotion.

The FFP rules are still in their infancy. We do not yet know how punishments will be dished out, certainly not in the championship anyway. Is not prudent to play by the rules and watch to see what happens to those who don't. Once a precedent has been set we are then in a position to take an informed decision.

At the moment it is a 50/50, flip of a coin situation and no one (not even those who created the rules) really knows how its going to play out. The risk is therefore unquantifiable. No business or businessman with any sense has or will ever take a punt on a risk that can not be quantified. Its not even calculated, its blind faith.

ME keeps the club viable as others have said, any new owner will be equally tied with by the FFP rules like it or not.

More to the point your post reads almost like a Cyril Baker special and that statement speaks for itself does it not.

MM can only spend what ME gives him to spend.

End of really!!!

BlueandTruesince82 added 19:32 - Jun 13
But ME can only allow him to spend what FFP says he can spend. So not end of at all, rather more to it in fact.

Bohsledgend...
I hoped i would not have to comment on this site until aug but reading your posts i had to.Again you see nothing wrong with our club in any way but, here we go again a transfer less summer coming up.Reading MM post dosent encourage me at all already we are waiting on dreagens from other clubs an it will be aug before we get that.I read every day poor small clubs as you say like us are doing some kind of business.I believe there is something wrong behind the scenes as we have cut our wage bill with some lads gone and if we only get young loanees in that looks bad.We get linked to so many players but they choose lesser clubs to us and this has been going on summer after summer you cannot be happy with this because Im not.Talk to you in aug with our smallest squad and premier kids same bull different summer at ITFC..

the reason we never get mentioned on TV and the papers is we are the dullest club in the league what is it that we are supposed to be supporting? another mid table mind numbing washout?

Midtable with a points total that would have got us into the plsyoffs the year before. In the mix for the play offs almost right to the end? Yeah that was boring.

Blueandtrue82 if we hadn't dropped 30 points from winning positions due to trying to sit back and defend a 1-0 lead we would have got in the play offs, if not automatic. Your faith in FFP is commendable, all be it a bit misplaced. FFP is a farce and will be proven as such when no sanctions against teams who have been in breach of it are put in place. Teams will challenge any potential sanctions like embargos and fines, it will then go through the courts and legal process and could then be thrown out completely. It has just been an excuse for evans to hide behind and keep his spending down to a minimum. Dont blame him, coz throwing money at it under the wrong managers didnt work. Just feel we are standing still and are falling further behind in our quest to get back to the premiership

"But a Town revival never really looked on the cards. The home side had been deservedly in front at the break and their lead never looked under any serious threat in the second half.
The Blues were lacklustre throughout, giving the ball away far too easily and creating little until the closing stages."

Yes that was the exciting play off chase. Playing Murphy on his own and hoofing it to him.

Jimmy I have no fairh in FFP. They are in place to make rich cluvs rwtain their position, but they are in place. I would rather wait and and watch and see how those who have breached them are punished. Dont forget ME is funding a move for cat 1 status (I admit the seasin ticket issue didnt help matters there but thats yet more money he has to pour in) he pays for everything. Our income barely covers the wage bill. Someone has to pick up the tab for everything else. This article only talks about loans, I think its fair to say things are going on in the background and why waste money on transfer fees when a wealth of talent is available free? Put the money towards wages.

All I'm saying is its a little early to be complaining about a lack of transfer activity. The seasons barely over, Mick has proven his worth so far and he has ambitions of prem management again. If he's not happy he will walk, its the nsture of the man. If MM is happy then something must be happening. Some clubs haven't even sorted out their retained list yet and still after our best season for years and a points total that would have been good enough for the play offs the year before people call fir MM to go? Stupid if you ask me. I could just as easily argue if hadnt picked up x number of points from losing positions last year we would not have bern the play off race as long as we were.

statistics can easily be manipulated and presented to suit an argument. Facts are diffrent and the fact is 68 points is often enough for a play off birth, the fact is FFP is in place, the fact is we all wait to see what kind of punishments champ clubs may suffer and until we see that none of us will be any the wiser. Better to get the right players, that the manager wants tyan to sign any old Carlos Kickaball just because he's available, those are the bowyers, the finidi georges of this world.

i dont necessarily agree with surco but people are being naive if they think you cant benefit from breaking this rule.
what surco is suggesting would be a calculated gamble which could lead to promotion but could backfire.
personally i would be satisfied with a season where we get rid of the long ball game start playing out from the back and start proactively attempting to win every game. i think hewitt and marriot should be firm parts of the first team squad and we should be looking to add pace to the side. a change of formation to to 4231 or 4132 would be nice so we can bring our style out of the dark ages

Jimmy86 added 11:59 - Jun 14
Blueandtrue I agree with you that there is a plethora of talent out there available for free, but would we pay good enough wages to secure some of these?? Plus we are waiting a few weeks, again to save ourselves a few quid in paying wages, but if we leave it too long we will miss out on targets. I wait with baited breath as to who MM can sign this season with limited funds

"Here we go again, Ipswich lose and don't play well and the idiots surface again, people have short memories. You muppet's ain't got a clue the club needs proper fans not you lot "

MM and ITFC must be relieved they can rely on true fans like blue_moon09.
