Tickets Selling Well for East Anglian Derby
Tuesday, 5th Aug 2014 18:05

Town have sold almost 21,000 tickets for the East Anglian derby with Norwich City on Saturday 23rd August (KO 12.15pm).

The club say some areas have already sold out with no ticket sales taking place at the ground on the day of the match. Portman Road has a capacity of just over 30,000, although segregation and security reduce that figure for derby matches.

The deadline to have purchased tickets to be posted out is 8.30am on Thursday 21st August, while the latest tickets can be bought in person at Planet Blue is 4.30pm on Friday 22nd August.

Fans whose customer number has a purchasing history from within the last 10 seasons can buy a ticket via ITFC Direct and print it out at home up until kick-off. Norwich are expected to sell out their allocation of more than 2,000.

fixed it. at last, some1 has come up with the answer that should have been staring everyone in the face. yes, certainly the cost will have had an effect, but only due to the match being on sky. if it hadn't been live on tv, theres no doubt at all it would have sold out. as for those who are criticising the club for not selling tickets on the day of the match. ridiculous, petty whinging. theres not a club in the country that would sell tickets for a local derby, on the day of the match. steveritfcsweden, yes ur right, Norwich did sell out in lge 1 but only because they offered kids for a quid every game. and as you say,its a bigger city, and they don't seem to have the same number of fickle supporters we have neither

PhilTWTD...have I missed something but the report says that town have sold 21000 tickets surely you then add the nar@&ch amount on and that's 23000.??......for me this is too good to miss...the Cornish contingent will be there as it will be my lads first ever derby......wouldn't miss it for the world...sky has obviously played a part but whose moaning at that ...if we want to get to the premier league sky will rule every game we play ...why moan about it but want to join their gang..doesn't make sense....if the doubters/negative posters just went , backed the team and became the 12th man we would win more and then there would be no need for moaning....oh think I be just hit in the reason why the moaners aren't going....in life you are either zappers or sappers..(quote from mystical master Chris Evans)...stop sapping the life out if us and join the fun !!! blues1: You seem to contradict yourself a bit there. You say that Naarwich sold out because they had "Kids for a Quid." [Good point: Why can't we do this, I wonder? It would fill seats and build for future support]. But then you say our fans are more fickle than Naarwich fans. My point was, I don't think they are, so the problem must be in the pricing. Others have pointed out the Sky factor. Yes, I suppose some people will save money and watch it in the pub, but I don't think many serious fans would consider this option for this match. Personally, I could easily watch it here at the pub on Sky in Sweden, but I'm coming over to experience it live because I feel the need to get behind the team in person on this historic occasion! What I would really like is for the club to be more creative in developing strategies for increasing the gate, rather than concentrating on charging higher prices to fewer supporters.

Blues1 - can you give me one good reason why it's "petty, ridiculous whinging" to want to be able to buy tickets on the gate?

Cornishblu - my post was negative, but i'll be at the game - I think if people are willing to post on Ipswich Town forums, then chances are they attend games. I've got a season ticket, so all told I've got a pretty fair deal in regards to the cost of my ticket. I don't think Sky is necessarily to blame for the sluggish ticket sales - the cost of them most definitely is. For someone who is driving his family over from Cornwall, I'm really surprised you don't agree with this...

Ipswich is in direct competition with Sky to attract fans away from the pub. Charging them £32 minimum is not a good way of winning that fight...

....if you don't like the £32 quid...can't wait till we get promoted and charge an extra 10 on top of that the forum will be heaving....at the end of the day I don't want to pay any more than that and at these prices it will stretch the budget but whilst we still pay the ticket price it will remain what it is and for Norwich it just might be worth it...for others I might make a different decision...on this basis Of cost though I look forward to being amongst the sell out 6000 crowd at Crawley because tickets only cost £10......happy days COYB

Like a lot of posters on here have a season ticket since they were first introduced in 'Churchmans';but this doesn't mean that I cannot complain about the cost for others.Yes we have to compete with Sky who are paying ITFC by the way.

I have been banging on about this for some time, and will raise it at the clubs AGM in the Autumn.

I suspect that people like Milne and Evans who set these high prices have no idea what it is like for some supporters who just cannot afford these prices. There are others like the Sudbury supporter who we were chatting to last night who only comes when they have special offers.

Some on here may scorn such people but these are the facts of life(and marketing).
It is a difficult calculation to make;but we all know that more people in the ground, would encourage the players;and a more attractive game would make these so called part time supporters return.

"Granted Naarwich is quite a bit bigger than Ipswich" since when ?

HARRY10 - he means in terms of population. Ipswich is approx. 130,000, Norwich approx. 213,000 (according to Wikipedia)...

Cornishblu - you're spot on there. If people don't like it, they shouldn't turn up - pure consumer power. However, i'll bet the payout Ipswich are getting from Sky offsets the 5,000 or so empty seats that there're going to be. They know they can get away with charging premium prices for seats 'cause the real money is in the TV deal. And that's how it is with modern football. So be it. But Milne, Evans, whoever it is that made this decision, needs to understand that a stadium 3 quarters full isn't going to look/sound good on telly, and that may affect Sky's decision to televise that game in the future...

Crawley away in just under a week. 1o pound ticket, on a terrace - now THAT'S what I'm talking about...
