Bishop Still on Sick List As McCarthy Looks for Keeper
Thursday, 15th Jan 2015 14:28

Midfielder Teddy Bishop remains on the sick list ahead of Saturday’s visit to Millwall, but Cole Skuse and Jay Tabb are back in training having also suffered with the virus which has hit the squad in recent weeks.

“Teddy Bishop’s not been in today, he’s still suffering,” manager Mick McCarthy said. “There are one or two just sniffling and what have you. I hope it’s not going to prove to be any worse than that.

“The good news is that Tabby trained and Skusey trained, so we’ve got a couple coming back.”

Kevin Bru, impressive against Southampton last night, looks set to partner Skuse in the centre of the midfield at the Den.

With Dean Gerken ruled out for a month with a hip injury McCarthy says he’ll be looking for a more senior keeper as cover with Michael Crowe yet to make a first-team appearance.

“We’re looking for back-up, no doubt about that,” McCarthy confirmed. “It’s all right putting Michael Crowe on the bench, but he’s never played a league game. I can sit on the bench as long as I’m not called upon, it’s not going to matter.

“Given the position we’re in we need a bit more experience and a bit more cover than that.”

Must be comforting for Crowe to know he is just there to fill a place on the bench, presumably if MM did sit there Crowe would have to stand in the technical area. Yeah, we know what MM means and I'm sure he has had a kind word or two with his rookie glovesman but the quips and sweary comments do go an inch too far at times.

It's probably asking for trouble but why not have Crowe on bench. There's more urgent need for striker/attacking midfielder/centre back surely!

Where's Lewis Price these days?..always thought we were a bit too quick to let him go.

Saw Crowe last night with the warm out pre-game, I know it's only a warm up but he looked very good.
So, do you take my word or MM's valuation?."...........ok I'll get my coat!

How old is Crowe? Hardly experienced for a GK i suspect. And what has happened to Gerkin? Must have missed his injury news. When did this happen?

So he'll never play a league game until he's played a league game?

you need a league cup game before a league game. Or you get into the blame game.

Can't believe how much weve missed Tabb and Skuse, but it shows you how important they are now. Hunt and Hyam just weren't at the races last night.

Richard wright for an emergency comeback loan..? Could chair a few seminars on how to get promoted!

Bialkowski
Chambers, Smith, Berra, Parr
Ambrose, Bru, Skuse, Mings
McGoldrick, Murphy

Mings did well against England's Nathaniel Clyne, give him a few games on the left wing!

......... in other words Crowe's face doesn't fit the MM all important frame - for whatever reason.

Can't see any other reason why he wouldn't be up for the opportunity to prove himself at the required level - certainly looks the part.

Far more positions require backup / options than Keeper.
