McGoldrick to Miss Brighton Trip Tuesday, 20th Jan 2015 13:44 Striker David McGoldrick is set to miss Wednesday’s visit to Brighton with his knee injury, but is expected to be available for the home game against Wigan a week on Saturday.
The Irish international, who is again set to be replaced by Noel Hunt against the Seagulls, suffered the knock in the FA Cup tie against Southampton.
“He’ll be fine for Wigan, he won’t be involved tomorrow night," manager Mick McCarthy said.
McCarthy confirmed that Luke Hyam is out for four to six weeks with his knee injury, but better news is that Cole Skuse and Teddy Bishop are both back in training after illnesses and will make the trip to the Amex Stadium.
“They both trained today, they were very good today, I’m really pleased with them," the Town boss added.
"Skusey’s experienced, he’s older, he’s as fit as a flea anyway. Maybe the rest might have done him good, he’s played most of the games.
“Bish is different, every week he runs himself to exhaustion and after 75 minutes we take him off and I think that runs him down, the old immune system takes a battering. But he’s fine, he trained today and looked great, I’m really pleased to have him back."

He needs a rest anyway and he's been great this season. He was wrongly critisised by lots on here following our recent defeats but he's top quality.

6 weeks ago McGoldrick missing would of had us crying in our beer, but with the addition of Sears & the return of Noel, I feel we can cover it, his absence will still of course be noticeable, but I feel he has become wasteful the last few games, snatching at chances & not passing when he should, I wish him a speedy recovery though & look forward to seeing him back in the starting line up against Wigan, refreshed & raring to go!!

Will still be a big miss even with our strength in depth, but I'm questioning his attitude slightly at present. Maybe he's just frustrated.

I think the beard might make him a rather less than likely potential winner of Miss Brighton... but good luck to him for taking part...

Bad news ,he is one player who teams we play fear , ie is he going to drop deep , is he going wide ,is he going beyond murphy ,is he going to cut inside or outside ,is he going to shoot ,what he going to do with this free kick etc etc. My opinion he is unplayable simply for the reasons stated.

Attitude? Maybe he's just been carrying a knock and been a bit frustrated. Bluefeast you're dead right!

Looking forward to seeing Teddy and Freddy in the same team could be rather exciting

Yeah agree with his attitude I think the move to Leicester is still playing on his mind, for me has under performed most of the season, may well be his injury last season but he isn't quite the same player. Last season if he shot outside the box you'd almost guarantee he'd hit the target, this season it's been closer to the corner flag. Saves mick an awkward selection dilemma after hunts two goals too!

I still worry play overload to Murphy,so in my mind is very important to get in Sharp or Woods.

we are re-signing Charlie Woods?

McGoldrick needs a rest anyway. He has been far from 100% fit this season and must be frustrated at not having scored more goals. I agree he will be a big miss as a play maker but we are better able to cope without him now than a few weeks ago. Hopefully we will see just how good Sears can be tonight - Brighton fans certainly don't seem too optimistic

What is Sears up to tonight? Nothing that will stop him playing tomorrow I hope.;-)
PJH added 15:11 - Jan 20
Carsey-hope game not tonight because if it is, I have missed the coach to Brighton. McGoldrick is a class footballer but sometimes not reaching his pre injury heights. I do not think he is sulking or any of the other accusations he gets from time to time,I just think he needs the run of the ball in opposition box to get him going.

I don't understand any McGoldrick criticism particularly attitude. We're second in the Championship and we've had the same two up front all season, Noel Hunts winner against Charlton was set up by great work by McGoldrick where he ran wide and caught Mings 40 yard pass on his chest. in the 94 minute that shows talent and attitude.

McGoldrick is premiership quality and our best player even if he isn't as prolific in front as goal as he was first half of last season. He makes things happen for us and contributes towards Murphs rise to fame. Hope the knee isn't a recurrence of the serious problem that plagued him last season. I saw him limping after the tackle against Southampton and it looked like he had twisted it. Thankfully we have some exciting options upfront with Noel and Freddie. Murph has been great and played just about every minute of the season despite heavy knocks in both Southampton games. Strong as an ox but would surely benefit from a rest here and there if only to allow Freddie to take over when we have our neck in front.

McGoldrick Is the Town's stand out player. He is the focal point. It obviously helps when Bishop is playing but if McGoldick is not available the quality of the football takes a big hit. Really important that Teddy is able to start tomorrow now.

McGoldrick hasn't been at his best in the past few games. I can't say thay his sulking, I do think he is getting a bit selfish at times considering how desperate to score he is at the moment. I'm glad he got one against Charlton. The goal that Murphy got then was pretty typical of how it's going for the two of them at present, McGoldrick hit the post and Murphy gets an easy chance. McGoldrick is still set to come back into the starting line up against Wigan, but if Hunt has as good a game as his last one MM will have a dilemma on his hands...

Not too disappointed. I'm not sure what his problem is at the moment but he's certainly not been undroppable lately. Not sure whether it's complacency, a lack of confidence or a bit of jealousy that Murph's our talisman this year but he needs to sort it out and be a team player like earlier on in the season. Perhaps a week's rest will do him good and he'll come back raring to go!

Didsys been great as a playmaker, we really missed his quality at Millwall. Home v Charlton he did everything but score before he got his goal at the end - he hit both posts and the bar. Hi shooting from range tho hasn't been so accurate as last season b4 that injury that finished him off.

McGoldrick could admittedly look up and assess the options a bit more. But he is so comfortable on the ball that in many games his vision and control have been in stark contrast to much of the frankly limited midfield footballing quality around him. Let's hope he's here at least to the end of the season and that he benefits from the enforced rest in the next couple of weeks.

Dids without doubt is our class player who is hard to predict for the opposition , but feel the weight of expectancies or waiting for January bids to come in have certainly affected his game since Christmas and this injury and a break which wouldn't have happened if he was fit may be ideal for him He has been taking shots when others are open , taking unnecessary tackles when passes are on , could do with a goal

When you look at Didzy you have to see the point I think he is trying to make , as said in many of the above posts he is our best player by far , when a bid for him was turned down in the summer he thought ok I will stay and see where we are going here ,well the team is flying and he has contributed to most of that , i think his problem is the lack of goals and now the transfer window is here, there haven't been any bids for him and to top it against Southampton we had the cameras there ,I believe he wanted to show he could still score from anywhere (hence the shot he had) and nothing really went right for him that night with his passing was woeful at times and I believe he was just trying too dam hard. A rest will allow time to see him get his head together also his fitness ,i don't think he will have any problem getting back into the side if they all play well and get goals due to him being able to play in so many positions. Didzy has just lost his way , roll on the second half of the season ,our goal difference needs to be higher than it has been in decades ,Didzy is our man to get that GD higher than it ever has ,whether it is through assists or scoring he will be awesome in our quest for the promise land.

To get promoted requires a bit of luck with injuries. Every team is bound to have them, and if I could pick three consecutive games for Didz to be injured, it would be these three during the transfer window. Cover found, and playing sides low on confidence, form etc. Lets hope we stuff them!!

Why is Dids allowed to visit Miss Brighton? What does she look like and will the rest of the Town Players also visit Miss Brighton? Think Mick is being very lenient here!
