Hunt: Expect the Unexpected
Friday, 30th Jan 2015 06:00

Recent Town recruit Noel Hunt believes he knows the Championship as well as anyone and says: “The only thing you can expect is the unexpected.”

Hunt has netted three times, once on his debut during a brief loan spell and twice on his first start after returning on a free transfer following the termination of his contract at Leeds by mutual consent, to help Town’s promotion challenge.

But he knows from past experience that nothing can be taken for granted in what has consistently proved to be English football’s most competitive league and in the current campaign, as things stand, as many as eight teams are battling it out for the three promotion places.

Hunt said: “You just don’t know what is going to happen. I’ve played in this league long enough to expect the unexpected. It’s like leapfrog from the start of the season to the end because there are always changes in and around the top six.

“All we can do is focus on our own games, forget about the rest of them and just worry about Wigan on Saturday.”

The former Reading striker believes Town could benefit from a longer-than-usual break following their defeat at Brighton in the middle of last week, adding: “We had a few niggles in the camp and a few of the boys were struck down by illness so hopefully they have all cleared up now.

“Losing at Brighton was a tough pill to swallow because we know we didn’t play as well as we can. We didn’t play our own game but we’ve been addressing that this week and we’ll be looking to put it right on Saturday against Wigan.”

Asked if he felt Town could put together a run of five or six wins on the spin, Hunt responded: “Absolutely. We’ve only been beaten three times in 23 league games and that’s a run not to be sniffed at.

"We are more than capable of another long unbeaten run but we need to focus on Wigan and go from there."

I'm alarmingly confident about tomorrow. I really think Mick will have the boys fired up and it looks like it could be a fantastic time to play Wigan. 4 nil Town, not sure on the scorers but hoping Sears nets on his home debut.

I hope we have had the dome up as these temperatures will make for frozen pitches

Hope Freddie starts, I believe we can rip Wigan apart if we set out on the front foot.
Come on.......
