McCarthy Will Look at Loans
Tuesday, 3rd Feb 2015 11:57

Town boss Mick McCarthy has reiterated his intention to use the emergency loan provision during the remaining months of the season.

Yesterday, the final day of the January transfer window, passed without any moves in or out of the club, although with confirmation of the signing of out-of-contract Irish youngster Dylan Connolly understood to be close, with McCarthy happy with his existing squad.

“I said no one was leaving us so it was always going to be a quiet day,” McCarthy told the club site.

“With signing players, I’ve said many times, where do I get players that are better than what we have?

“We have done well with what we’ve got this season and I trust the players to carry that on. They are a great bunch.

“Bringing players in on loan is a possibility though. We can bring players in on emergency loans until the end of March and we can take them for up to 93 days which will take us up to the end of the season.”

Left-back Tyrone Mings was the subject of much media speculation during January, along with the likes of Teddy Bishop and Daryl Murphy.

Shortly after the window closed last night the 21-year-old tweeted: "Buzzing the window is now shut. Time to focus on our main objective - ITFC."

It's such a shame that we have all of the credentials for promotion apart from the money to strengthen our squad on a permanent basis and I think strengthening the midfield is paramount if we are serious about going up.

Such a shame , where can i get better ,well if we look at creativity in midfield ,or goal scoring midfield types ,or right backs then just about anywhere. Our form has dipped not because the players are bad ,but because they are shattered due to our playing style. Not having the ball is exhausting

Time will tell if this squad is capable of going to the very end but sadly that end seems like the play offs at the very most. I felt like others that we needed 1 or 2 players to bolster our already thin squad to give us that final push to challenge for the top two. I know in recent seasons when we've given money to the likes of Jewell and Keane that it didn't go particularly well, but as we all know they were clueless. We now have a manager who knows how to get the best out of his players and I think with a bit of cash to spend, Mick could well get us promoted. On the other hand I'm happy to see no outs at the club.

Its absolute rubbish saying i cannot get anyone better than i already have there is not so many now because a lot of them have gone to our rivals,as i have said before its not that there isn't anyone better what MM should say is there is not anyone better on a free with low wages full-stop with that statement he must believe we have the best team in the but playing the worst football. .

Mick is a good man manager and is of course right when he says the current squad has got it to where we are currently, they have done a fantastic job, possibly punching above our weight, but we are there on merit. I don't however buy into the "where will I find better than what we have got" question. Mick has got the absolute best out of this group of players, a group who work very hard and have made us proud of our club again, but a group of players somewhat limited creatively and technically and this is the area I think needed to be addressed.

So its MM's call he thinks we can challenge for promotion with the squad we have , as long as we don't get the excuses of squad to small , too tired after putting in some great shifts if we start dropping off the pace I don't care . Hopefully MM will be right and the season will be a continued success . Need Bishop in the team though MM .COYB

quite dissapointed with no more recruitments yesterday! you look at derby, and they've brought in jesse lingard and tom ince, two players of top quality who have already proven themselves at this level. i do believe in mick, but i'm sorry i don't see our squad at strong as others, like watford, derby, bournemouth. but lets hope the togetherness is enough, and i still believe play offs would be an outstanding achievement. at the start on the season, with out current squad, i don't think many people even expected us to be in and around the mix at this stage, so the work MM and TC have done, is phenominal!! i think a couple of top signings on loan, i say JW, would really benefit our squad!!

COYB!!

Appreciate and respect other fans opinions and recognise that some are content with the lack of signings. However, considering the fact we had insufficient players to name a full quota of subs at Millwall despite supposedly being promotion contenders; I think it's disgraceful. It's clear to all that we don't have a) enough outfield players and b) lacking a couple of quality additions in midfield and up front.

We are now in a situation where we are going to rely on short term loans, who will probably not be available if we reach the play offs. Surely a half season loan would have been a better and more consistent option. This transfer policy reminds me of the PJ era, which I thought everyone agreed was a poor policy. I'm worried the club thinks the current squad is strong enough.

Accept others opinions, but I'm bitterly disappointed.

We desperately need back up for Murphy, if he is out for longer than a game our season could well be over unless MM finds a suitable replacement. A goal scoring midfielder such as Nick Powell would also be a good deal or both parties.

Same old stuff MM spouted at the end of the Summer transfer window. How many young Prem starlets did we sign on loan? That's right Sammon.

And wouldn't a signing have lifted spririts and put bums on seats and given the run in much needed boost. No, the donkey always right.

nice to see everyone using evans money. If 60-80 million is not enough.

Perhaps we shouldn't trust someone who's added £50 m debt and doesn't show any signs that he knows what he's doing in business or football terms.

My, how quickly people turn ...... this is the same team and manager that has done so well for us up to Christmas. We were always going to suffer a dip in form at some point but hopefully we can recover. Having the leagues top goal scorer out will make a difference. The fantasists who call for spending are the same ones who moan about the price of tickets. Our club is skint. There is no money so back MM to continue to do what he has done so well up to now ..... use his skill to bring in the players who are available and who we can afford and to get the best out what we have got.

I don't go with this rubbish about players being tired. They are professional footballers on controlled diets and training and I think this is being used as an excuse by some posters. Having a larger squad increases your options when players form dips and keeps players on their toes and obviously if there are injuries. The fact Town are in a better position than they have been for many years without spending a lot is a credit to MM and TC. I am sure that if MM wanted players than ME would fund them, but it needs to be the right players who are there to fight for a place or come into the team and want to be playing rather than pick up a few quid. Most of the loan players MM has got in have been okay and had the right team spirit.

I am very disappointed that we haven't signed anyone, BUT

1. The only reason we couldn't fulfil a full quota on the bench was due to the late injury to Skuse. Not because we don't have enough players.
2. Yes Derby signed Bent, Ince and Lingard, and yes I am jealous, but they also lost Ibe (recalled to Liverpool) and Russell (not sure what happened to him?) but both were regulars in their side so 2 of the 3 are merely replacements.
3. We may well have sufficient players within our squad, we need MM to recognise that his current first team are not performing any longer and it needs changing. MM appears to have regressed to something he has been guilty of before, playing only his favourites.
4. We didn't sell anyone!

So its not all doom and gloom. Who knows who is to blame for not spending money. MM or ME. Very few will be privy to that info. Let's do all we can on the terraces and get behind the team. We can't change the window that has passed, we can only get on with it. A loan may be just around the corner, and who knows, there is no reason why we can't over achieve for the remainder of the season..

COYBs!

Think Mick Will sign two loans players who will ignite our season and answer the critics.
For the life of me I cannot understand all the moaning. We are 3 points off the top. 6 points clear of 7th. If we were offered that last august we would have grabbed it.
Get behind the manager and the team and who knows we might all agree with each other come may.

I think that after the Rotherham game (another low position team ) we will get a better idea if we are up to it ?? nothing less than a win please !!! then after that we start playing teams higher in the league.

the worse thing we could do is go in the emergency transfers and there alot of players in there who aint played for weeks and even months or of the treatment bench after nearly a year out and still think we should have got someone yesterday and made a push at the right time of the season and derby wasnt shy of spending or getting told of with new rules and this may come back and bite us hard

The comments here are borne of a fear of what might happen.
Truth to tell we missed out on promotion to Wigan years ago because we lost Kuqi for a while and the team petered out.
We fear the same.
Losing Sammon as a back up to Murphy has proven to be a problem - no presence up front against a team we should beat at home. No plan B. No players to operate Plan B if we had one.
Sorry but I too think we missed the opportunity to push on - but the top three have all spent big money - either in fees or wages or both.
We got Freddie Sears!
Fortunately I have got used to the Championship; I like my (mostly) Saturday kick-offs; I don't want to be struggling to get 12 goals in an entire season whilst praying to beat the bottom four and not get thrashed to the mega-millions - which is all the Prem would be for us.
Top six, bit of fun in the play-offs and maybe a bit of luck; that'll do for this year.

@blueMachine and irishtim, spot on posts, and sensible. We are were we are, oh look....no...surely not....really, 3pts of top!!!!! Oh yes but.....we play crap football, hoof ball!!! We hate this style of football when we're losing, but it's ok when we're winning!
Whatever what the situation is behind closed doors, we can't change it. One thing we can do is roar on the boys, assembled on peanuts, till the end of season.....let's wake up Portman rd, and see were it takes us. COYB.

I'm disappointed but not surprised.

Disappointed that it's taken hardly the blink of an eye for people to start criticising MM again. Amazed that some people seem to think we're entitled to be 3 points from the top of the league in February and that MM does not deserve to be trusted with the well-being of the team and the club.

For me, seeing some teams, e.g. Derby, buying numerous players doesn't speak to me of confidence or great management. It says to me that the manager doesn't believe in his current team, he needs other teams hand-me-downs to come in and replace the guys who have brought them to where they currently are.

MM on the other hand (and despite the derision and hysterics of some of the Football Manager 2015 experts on here) has chosen to back his players to continue to do better than any of us could have expected at the start of the season. The strength of our squad is in its togetherness and unity. To risk that would be worse than selling any of our best playing assets.

No doubt about it, we've gone through a rough patch. But we haven't fallen away. We're still very much in the hunt for promotion. IMO it's important that fickle opinions don't take root among the fanbase again. The team and the manager need our support and encouragement. I was in the North Stand on Saturday and was delighted with how the fans there sang their hearts out throughout the game for the Team, the Club and MM - although incredibly there were boos from some other sections of the ground.

I admit it is slightly concerning looking at what Derby are doing, but there's no guarantee those additions will flourish, Ince is basically a replacement for Jordan Ibe as he returned to Liverpool. Lingard has had a couple of decent spells in the Championship but time will tell...

Hasn't been a good month for us but I wouldn't panic yet, we should really be looking at 6 points from the next two, anything less than 4 and I'd start to be a tad more concerned.

Would like to see us revert to a more attacking approach at home, we looked very threatening with Bishop starting and playing two full-backs. Skuse holding behind Bru and Bishop, then a front three of McGoldrick, Murphy and any one of Hunt, Tabb or Anderson.

If we are serious about top 2, we need to be picking up decent points over the 5 February games prior to the derby match, all the teams around us are playing each other as well and will be dropping points.

I wouldn't be so worried if I felt confident that there were numbers of good up and coming players waiting in the wings. But for whatever reason, the likes of Stewart, Henshall, Wyatt, Crowe, Patterson, Marriott, Elliot, McQueen etc. don't seem like they are ready or favoured by MM as yet. They are the "depth" but how deep is that depth?
