McCarthy Hopeful on McGoldrick But Sears Ready to Start
Monday, 9th Feb 2015 10:50

Town boss Mick McCarthy is hopeful that striker David McGoldrick will be fine to face his former loan club Sheffield Wednesday at Portman Road on Tuesday evening, the Irish international having suffered a thigh problem at Rotherham on Saturday.

The Town manager says McGoldrick, who had a month with the Owls in 2011, scoring one goal in three starts and one sub appearance, should be OK to face the South Yorkshiremen: “I’m hoping he will be fine, we’ll see how he is tomorrow.”

Aside from McGoldrick, McCarthy says everyone else came through Saturday’s game unscathed: “Just about, there are a few bumps and bruises but nothing untoward.”

Luke Hyam (knee) and Dean Gerken (hip) are the only players currently sidelined longer term, although both are making progress.

McCarthy, who had his players in at Playford Road yesterday, says he could make a few changes with the Blues having picked up just four points from their last 15.

“Possibly. The ones who have been sat on the periphery, if they don’t get a game now when we’ve had a couple of difficult games and results haven’t gone as well, they’ll be thinking they’re never going to get a chance.

“To be honest, whenever I’ve had to change the team because of injury, suspension or illness, whoever has come in in whatever position, they’ve always contributed and done well.”

If McGoldrick fails to make it - or McCarthy is eyeing a change to his front line - the Town boss says recent signing Freddie Sears has shown he's ready to make his full debut having impressed from the bench.

“Yes, he is," McCarthy added. "I think he’s been really bright, really lively.

"We’ve talked about having somebody just to come in and be hungry for it, we’ve got some that have been on the periphery, not new faces but players who are desperate to play and certainly Freddie looks ready for it and up for it.”

Beat - McCarthy has never played 3-5-2, if anything it will be a 4-3-3, dropping to a 4-5-1 when we defend, that relies on Smith or Berra dropping out, Chambers moving over &'Parr coming in. Midfield a central diamond of Bru, Skuse, Bishop. I think Sears should Start alongside Murph. Mick knows it, we all know it.. Another option is Ambrose - He would be worth a start as he has goals in him, something our midfield doesn't have..

Come on Mick, let's go for the win!!

Spot on Bohslegend. So many negative people berating didzy, MM, Mings etc, thinking they know better than the manager who a few weeks ago were promoting to divine status. People need to get a sense of balance. Enjoy the successes when they come along but know that we won't win every game and just because a player has an off day doesn't suddenly mean they should be dropped and MM doesn't know what he is doing. Top 6 at this point of the season would have been a dream a couple of years ago. MM is still the best manager we have had for a long time and deserves our support, just as the players do, not boing.

meanwhile skuse says " we're never a team to give up". I wish he and the rest would practise what he preaches.... down 0-2 against rotherham and " result never in doubt after second goal went in ". remember? I will harp on about this because I think this present team squad just dont know the meaning of the words fightback/bust a gut/go all out. thats lack of motivation. its the manager's job to instil it and clearly he is not doing so.

The fact that we are talking about the likes of Ambrose as being the solution is a concern.

Three points urgently needed. COYB
