Bishop Receives First England Call
Tuesday, 17th Mar 2015 10:16

Town midfielder Teddy Bishop has been named in the England U19 squad for their European Championships elite round qualifying group games next week. It’s the first time the 18-year-old academy product has received an international call.

Sean O’Driscoll’s side will travel to France for the matches and first face Denmark on Thursday 26th March, then Azerbaijan two days later and finally the hosts on Tuesday 31st March. The winners of the group will qualify for the finals in Greece in July.

Having made his senior debut in the Capital One Cup tie at Crawley in August, Bishop quickly broke into the first team and has now made 16 senior starts and 10 sub appearances, scoring one goal.

Talking about the Cambridge-born youngster yesterday, manager Mick McCarthy said: “Ted’s a proper player. I think I’ve waxed lyrical about him before.

“He was pushing last year. He would have got his debut when we went to Burnley, I’d have played him but he was injured.

“And sadly he’s had a few this season but he looks fitter and stronger and he’s doing really well.”

England U19s: Angus Gunn (Manchester City), Freddie Woodman (Newcastle United), Ben Chilwell (Leicester City), Ashley Smith-Brown (Manchester City), Joshua Aina (Chelsea), Brendan Galloway (Everton), Joe Gomez (Charlton Athletic), Kean Bryan (Manchester City), Teddy Bishop (Ipswich Town), Ruben Loftus-Cheek (Chelsea), Charlie Colkett (Chelsea), Harry Winks (Tottenham Hotspur), Lewis Cook (Leeds United), Brandon Barker (Manchester City), Demarai Gray (Birmingham City), Patrick Roberts (Fulham), Bradley Fewster (Middlesbrough), Izzy Brown (Chelsea).

That is great news and at a time when most of this message board ( incl me) have been questioning some of the selections this is one that we all applaud and love to see on the pitch
Well done Bish !

We MUST keep hold of Bish in the summer, even at the expense of Mings and/or McGoldrick.

Great news, agree that its important that we can keep hold of him, he wants and is comfortable on the ball.

Congratulations Teddy. Hopefully he's just the start of the next Bryan Klug generation coming through. Such a good player, his composure on the ball is so advanced for his age and hopefully he can only get better!

It's been a long while since we had a home grown player in an England squad (was Dean Bowditch the last?)

Well done Teddy

Great news or the boy.
If he plays and plays well he will soon be gone.

I watched him at half time (when we played Brentford) kicking the ball with Ando. The difference between them was incredible. Bish, both feet, effortless, accurate and sheer class. Ando... not quite!

For me, this lad is a wonderful addition to our team and necessary for any midfield subtlety.
