Murphy: We Need to Aim to Win at Blackburn Tuesday, 28th Apr 2015 17:56
Town’s 25-goal Championship top scorer Daryl Murphy believes the Blues need to go into Saturday’s final match of the regular season at Blackburn looking to win, despite a point being enough to secure a play-off place (KO 12.15pm).
“We’ve got to go to Blackburn with the mentality of trying to win the game, it’s as simple as that,” Murphy told Ipswich Player.
“A point will be enough but we want to get the job done and set ourselves up for the play-offs.
“We’ve been up there for most of the season and now we’ve put ourselves into a good position with the win over Forest, we’ve just got to get over the line now.
“We’re all confident and looking forward to the game. Hopefully we can give ourselves a crack at getting into the Premier League by making the play-offs. It’s where we all want to be.”
Town could still finish in the top six even if they lose at Ewood Park if two of the results of the games involving Derby, Brentford and Wolves go in the Blues' favour.
Murphy, the first Town player to hit 25 league goals since Ray Crawford in the 1962/63 season, looks set to be named the Blues' Players' Player of the Year at this evening's sell-out End of Season Dinner at Milsoms, Kesgrave Hall.
Sky Sports will announce which of Saturday's Championship games they will show live tomorrow, following relegation-threatened Rotherham's home match against Reading this evening.

Hope Mick agrees with Murph that Ipswich should go to Blackburn with a win mentality, dont think Town will be 'parking the bus'for this game or Mr McCarthy taking a point before he gets on said mode of transport. Perhaps though they will be flying up there,as Daryl said Sunderland were on the pitch when he went up with them.
twists and turns its a tragic thought that we could end up 7th , losing 1.0 to Jordon Rhodes off side goal or penalty. However we have fire power. This game is no good for the nerves , lets hope for a half time cushion. Us winning , brentford losing.
It's down to the performance on the day. No amount of speculation is going to change that fact. As fans all we can really do is support the team and see how it goes.
Yep, that's the attitude we want to hear. Freddie said it to. I can't see Mick leaving it to chance and going for a draw. Blackburn have a quality front pair so the defence need to be on top form.
Go all out to win it...if we lose then so be it, at least we've given it a good shot and even then Brentford HAVE to win by 2 clear goals. Some how I don't think will have the same philosophy.
Completely agree with Murph's comments but can't stand the fact that with one game to go we still have the usual thinly veiled criticisms from the usual quarters about the manager in charge of the team which sits 90 minutes away from the play offs. It's bizarre and unwarranted. Seems like even if we are promoted the same old same olds will be there complaining that we're not going toe to toe playing tiki taka with Chelsea and Man City in the early stages of the new season. For now, I want to sincerely thank all the players and the very much the manager too for what has been a phenomenal season for us regardless of how we get on from here on in.
I'm pretty sure MM won't 'go for the win'....find it strange that some fans want us to go all out for a win given whats at stake and the fire power Blackburn possess upfront with 40 goals between Gestede and Rhodes.
I'd be happy with another Wolves job, frustrate them and possibly nick a goal on the break. Its boring and unambitious but the best way to go about playing a team with 2 in form strikers and with the pressure off!
Honestly guys, I look at these comments sometimes and I lose the will to live. Who is, isn't. Who did, who didn't. Some people sit there scanning the posts and looking for their old adversaries so they can pour s**t on them. It's mostly about who has the biggest dick as far as I can see. Who cares that you've held x opinion for all of one season. Football moves too fast. Get behind your team and keep your unconstructive thoughts to yourself. Maybe we might listen to you without the snide comments. Come on you Blues (clap free!!!)! Let's win on Saturday, we've come a long way. And let's have some constructive analysis. Like, how long did it take some people to realise that Cole Skuse does a diamond job? Precisely until he scored a goal of the month. Yawn. We might just get there! I could call myself dusth 1962 by the way. And I'm not an angry old fart, just mildly pi**ed off.
To come away with nothing from Ewood Park is more than likely to see us out of the play-offs, it will only take a 3 goal swing, if we lose by one then Brentford must win by two, a strong possibility with their current form and that after tonight's result Wigan have nothing other than pride to play off. If we lose by two goals then Brentford only need to win by one goal to take it on goal scores.
How often this season have we gone away from home and looked like a team that had gone out for the win? MM has said a number of times how he wouldn't get on the bus if offered an away point. MM said we were going for a win at Wolves and proceeded to put on a negative performance devoid of attacking intent. There is no way we will be going for it at Blackburn. Allowing Blackburn lots of possession is going to lead to a nail biting afternoon and run the risk of defeat with the strikers they have.
@BadgerBajner - and another thing, in answer to your question, just enough times to leave us in 5th place after 45 games. I'd have taken that before the season started, if it were offered, as would 95 out of 100 championship fans.
