Ando: The Pressure's on Norwich
Monday, 11th May 2015 06:00

Town goalscorer Paul Anderson believes all the pressure is on Norwich City going into next Saturday’s Championship play-off semi-final second leg at Carrow Road (KO 12.15pm). Saturday’s first leg at Portman Road ended 1-1 with Anderson netting the Blues’ equaliser in first-half injury time after Jonny Howson had put the visitors ahead in the 41st minute.

"They are favourites to go up, all the pressure is on them, they finished third and should have got automatic,” the 26-year-old said.

"They have money to burn and we are small Ipswich, apparently. All the pressure is on them and we will be looking forward to it. And to do it on their patch, there will be no better place."

The winger, who replaced the injured Luke Varney in the 31st minute on Saturday, says Town are well capable of beating their greatest rivals on their own turf, citing the Blues’ impressive record against the two sides who won automatic promotion this season.

“We drew against Bournemouth twice, we beat Watford twice, and they’ve gone up,” he added. “We know we’re a good team. Regardless of the money we’ve spent, we know we’re a good team.

“We might not play the fanciest football but we get the result and we get the job done and I think we showed that we can play good football.

“So we’ll be going to win, we won’t be setting out to try and nick anything, we think we can comfortably beat them.”

Anderson, who as things stand is out of contract in the summer, has been in and out of the Blues side this season, more often out in recent weeks, but he praised boss Mick McCarthy for the way he has been treated.

"He is an unbelievable manager, his man-management [is excellent]. I haven't been playing over the past few weeks and he speaks to me, he gives me reasons, he keeps you level-headed.

"He keeps your feet on the floor when you’re doing well and when you’re not doing so well he picks you up.

"He is such a nice man and I imagine if you speak to anyone who knows him away from football you can sit and have a conversation with him like a normal guy.

"Some managers are a bit paranoid, they don't want to speak to people because they are worried they are going to speak to someone else. But he’s not like that, he’s a top gent and it’s a pleasure to play under him.

"People use the word ‘legend’, he is one of the best in the business and hopefully I’ll get to play under him for a lot longer.”

Meanwhile, Anderson has offered to pay for the repair of a ceiling a Town supporter damaged when leaping - almost as high as the goalscorer himself - and punching the air when celebrating the goal.

Ross posted his gratitude on the TWTD forum: "That goal was enough for me. Absolute hero. Que sera sera!!!!!! COYB!!!!"

A very nice guy, I know a lady that works at St Elizabeth Hospice and she said he visited on Christmas day and just wanted to spend the whole day helping out and chatting to the sick people.

Like the story about the ceiling, see I have this bathroom refurbishment that is not going very quickly. I'm sure if I had not been distracted by the play-offs and you keeping them alive by scoring a goal...

Having been skeptical about our chances before the home match, that performance has really given me confidence. I'm sure now the players believe they can do it (maybe they did before).
I feel the same as Ando in that we go there with a lot less pressure on us. I can imagine I putting pressure on them from the start and getting an early goal.
Alternatively if it is still 0-0 midway in the second half I can imagine the Budgie crowd getting a little nervous considering they probably feel entitled to beat us.
Anyway, this week will be a lot less stressful than last week before the match!
COYB! We can do it!

What top guy.... Really hope we do them, such an arrogant team and i don't know why? what have they ever won? They really thought they only had to turn up to get a comfortable win. Cant stand Eadie, his pre match comments and how they spanked us twice this season and was almost expecting to take back 2/3 goals.... Phil@TWTD's do we have to have green and yellow Dandelions at the foot of the page? Its Ruining my breakfast.... Enjoying breakfast again, watched the add its about weed killer and the watering can that administers the killer is a lovely shade of blue ........ COYB'S

There are a band of supporters who believe Paul Anderson should be a starter in our first team. I'm one of them.

Bumped into him with my kids earlier this season having sunday lunch. Really chilled genuine guy. We have a team of proper decent people and it shows on the pitch

In a way, a draw was a good result. It puts pressure on Norwich to come out and score, opening spaces at the back to two of the best strikers in the division, at the same time as their fans will admit that they bottle big games. Could easily turn out badly for them, especially if we score early...

Totally agree ALL THE PRESSURE ON THEM and if we keep em at bay for 30 minutes I really feel we will do em
Would LOVE to see second half DIDS come on just behnd
This is gonna be huge and I was always fed up with Johnson continually leaving his foot and elbow in - I think they will be even more niggly at Carrot Road

I have to admit I wasn't a huge fan of Ando at first, but I also have to admit he has progressed a lot this season and that while not playing regularly which means he must be working his socks off in training.

If we stay in this division, Anderson needs a new contract. If we go up, I'd offer him one but warn him that he might not play so often and see what he does. I like him for his running and pace, but football is about decisions and he doesn't always get it right. He seems to be doing ok in His media relations though! Taking a leaf ou of Tyrone's book. What great lads!

See, thinking about it they must have been far more confident before that game than they are now. Before - they could argue that we hadn't scored against them this season and had won both games. Now - they couldn't win the game, couldn't hold onto a lead, had fewer shots than us and have had people like Darren Eadie-ot putting the mokkers on them live on TV. I'm sure he'll be there doing the same next time alongside the more dignified GB.

If we take a lead up there they will panic and even if they take the lead there will be that doubt that they can hold it with that shaky defence. They are in a horrible situation whereas we didn't/don't expect all that much. COYB.

Yes, we are well capable of beating Norwich at Carrot Road, particularly if Smith has one of his good games (which we know he can).

COYB!

On the subject of arrogant unpleasant teams how nice was it to see QPR relegated with such a pathetic, gutless performace? Is there anything to like about that team, flount FFP rules to get promoted, employ Joey Barton to help them etc, is there anything to like about that team? Oh I quite like Ramsey, he seems a nice enough bloke but they'll sack him now aswell!

I work in Norwich and I can tell you there supporters are not as bolshy as they were last week. We have given them something to think about. Hopefully this apprehension will transfer to the pitch Saturday

Can someone let Ando know that I crashed my maserati quattroporte in the excitement of him scoring that goal. I think I need a new one!

Changing the subject to fat boy slim's comments about QPR. Does anyone know whether they ever paid their fine for breaking FFP rules, if not, will there be any other sanctions now they are back down in the Championship?

carsey added 11:08 - May 11
Have always liked Andersons work rate and effort just like all the team and now he has lost the beard he looks like a normal person. He will always be a hero now for scoring against the scum and hopefully can do it again next week.

Regarding QPR - agree with those who are pleased to see them relegated. According to the papers the Football League are "in discussions" with their accountants regarding the FFP issues. If they apply the rules correctly and QPR fail to pay up they could in theory be relegated to the conference but you can be sure that won't happen.

commuterblue added 11:09 - May 11
bergholt blue no QPR have not paid the (£56m I think) fine. They are contesting it. There wasn't any particular rush before because, as I understand it, The premier league and football league are different organisations so the Premier League don't enforce Championship rules.

Now though, the Championship could, in theory refuse them permission to enter the Championship. A bit like when Rangers had to go to bottom of Scottish league.

bergholt blue — QPR are a mess. They gambled on (allegedly) flouting FFP and its come back to bite them. Now they either pay the fine (if their appeal fails) or risk getting banned from the Championship.

We on the other hand have spent peanuts to get a decent crack at promotion — and we still play better football than them.

Top man. Ive been critical of the tactics and certain players but i would say on reflection, i am proud to call ipswich my club again. Top man in MM, players who work hard despite lack of creativity sometimes and forging close links with the community. If we go to the Scum and lose, even heavily, ill be proud of the group of men we currently have and if we are to be in the championship next year i think we have a real shot. Dont think QPR will come down and dominate or burnley for that matter, QPR, on current posting will be fined £50,000,000 apparently and will possibly get put down to the conference according to sky news. I have heard the rumors that McGoldrick is on his way but we have a core of players , young and older, who we can build upon. Proud Fan i am. We have our club back again!

I think psychologically maybe the pressure is on Norwich, I still feel that at some time in the match whether it is for large parts or just in periods they will put us under pressure - still feel Mick will try and keep the match tight and hope we can catch them on the break. BIG BIG game - please not defensive cock-ups!
