Newcastle Make Mings Enquiry Claims Thursday, 18th Jun 2015 09:14 Newcastle United have reportedly made an enquiry regarding Blues left-back Tyrone Mings.
According to the Northern Echo, one of a couple of North-East papers running the story, the Magpies, now managed by Steve McClaren, were quoted an initial fee of £8 million for the 22-year-old with Town said to want an overall deal worth £10 million once further clauses were taken into account.
The Blues have long been understood to be targeting an eight-figure fee for the highly-rated full-back.
Newcastle were amongst the Premier League clubs regularly represented at Portman Road last season to keep tabs on Mings and were claimed to have made an unsuccessful £4 million bid for the ex-Chippenham man in January.
At the weekend, West Brom were reported to be showing interest, while the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea and most of the rest of the Premier League have also been mentioned in connection with Mings at some stage over the last year or so, the Blues having turned down a £3.5 million offer from Crystal Palace last summer.
In September last year Mings, who cost the Blues £10,000 when he was signed from the Evo-Stick League Chippenham in December 2012, signed a contract which runs to the summer of 2017.
Elsewhere, former Blues winger Gary Roberts, 31, has joined Portsmouth from Chesterfield, signing a three-year deal.

@infinidi - the thing is we probably said the same in regards about price rising with Garvan, Haynes, Billy Clarke etc etc, we are in strong position with Mings, as soon as one club makes a bid there will be others, plus the jury is still out on Mings in regards to his positional sense and passing at times he has cost us goals. Im not saying he isn't going to make it big, but 8million plus add ons is a hell of a lot to us, even if ME only gives mick half that amount to spend we could improve more important areas of the pitch which we have lacked badly during last season. plus we can hold on to Teddy as I feel he will be more important than mings next season.

Well 10 million is either extremely over inflated for Mings, or we sold Cressy way too cheaply!!! Mings isn't half the player cresswell was for us. I would snap their hands off for 8 million, this could be Kieran Dyer all over again. Re-invest that money and we have a promotion winning team. Parr is a ready made replacement for Mings anyway

I think if MM was to accept this it would leave us bare at the back without any Right or Left back. We didn't see any of the money from Creswell so why should we see anything from Mings.

I believe that Mings is a player who if he doesn't play we miss. He is still very young and is of course prone to errors but he does have an excellent recovery rate and has pace down the left flank when attacking. I think we would miss him and those calling for Parr need to be reminded he was pretty ordinary towards the end of the season. Mings is also decent in the air which is a bonus for a full back. I would personally like us to keep him for another year but then money talks and when we are just short of £90m in debt any bid around £10m has to be taken seriously.

If there is £8m+ on the table, then this is going to be an early test of the club's policy towards the best players in the squad, and its willingness to either reject offers, or replace or add quality players. For those baying for big money signings, forget it, that's no longer the policy, it will be bargain buys or frees. The Cresswell argument was much stronger for selling, because he had had more seasons to develop in the Championship and the club would have been wrong to hold him back. Prediction: Mings stays for now.

good defenders are easier to get on a free than the midfield creativity that we missed massively last season. at the moment, we have Parr/Clarke at left back, Chambo/Parr can play right back (not forgetting hammond who might step up) I would say we only need to pick up a RB on a free. then the money would hopefully be re invested into the team further up the pitch. I might just add, that i would only like mings to be sold unless the deal was right for us, and not just sold cheaply which i thought cressy was.

Be good to have some news on who we will sign rather than who we might sell!!!

Mings can hold out and do better than newcastle.

All I can say is will he improve next season making him worth more or will he not meaning that a potential 8 figure sum out of the question im not totally convinced and I think hes prob better as a LWB than a LB and with these things considered can we afford to turn in down hindsight is a wonderful thing with prem money you can afford to speculate on young players in the championship we cant if the figure of 8 million is genuine we could bring in for example Nathan Byrne max value 1 - 1.5 million, o'hara no fee, Adam la fondre 1.5 - 2 million max, leaving from those three 5 million for wages that sorts out RB adds depth in midfield and an extra striker, but then the final question would there be money there as it is extra investment cant use the FFP card. If only us fans would know but we wont and its even harder to say theres sod all we could do about it anyway from the top to the bottom football has not got much regulation let alone transparency

If we get £10m for him then fair enough, but £10m is only good money if we re-invest it and bring in 2 or 3 quality players who can make a difference for us!

if we get 8 million for Mings and keep Bishop I have no complaints. If one of the two of them is to leave this summer (no suggestion either will) I would much rather it was Mings going

The club have stated on numerous occasions that MM has a transfer fund, if required, and that monies bought in from the sale of players will go toward the annual budget (wages and fees). How MM spends that budget is down to him and I am pleased he's doing it and not me! ME is clearly not an investor looking for an exit at THIS TIME. He is also not a benefactor so we should not lose sight of the fact that he expects a significant return. This would only occur if a local benefactor became interested or we got promoted to the Prem. We're lucky to have the best Manager and Owner in the Champ. Hopefully this year we'll also have the best team. COYB

The problem with taking a large fee for one of our players early in the Summer is that other clubs will then slap large transfer fees on any contracted players we are interested in and agents will demand higher wages for potential new signings.

take the money 8 mill is more than a fair price I like Parr, so not much of a loss would like to see all this pumped into the Team for a push next year (prob wont be) starting with a proper right back

Biggest surprise in this story is that Gary Roberts is only 31

Anyone who doesn't rate Mings doesn't understand football. People were saying the same about Cresswell and he has just won player of the season at West Ham and is on the verge of an England call up. Hope we don't sell but I agree there must be a price that we will accept. Parr is a solid replacement but Mings offers so much going forward too.

Take the money, make sure there is no Return of Cash in first 45 days clause, and quietly close the door. Good lad, some expectation he will improve, but if he is worth £8M then Burley would have been worth £25m and Beattie in excess of £50M.

If it's £8m then it may be too much to turn down for Mr Evans. I personally would like to see him stay for another year, we have to remember last year was his first full season of championship football. He may well have looked tired towards the end, but he was fantastic at the start of the year. A year on I'm sure he will be even better.. Whatever happens I'm behind MM. #COYB

I think if he is sold then the promise before how much money we will get bk. Tbh the same will happen with cresswells money as will Ming's

10 million cash with a % of a future sale would be a great deal. Add ons are crap in fairness. So no to thay kind of deal

I think that Mings is going to be an excellent left back, given time. He still has a lot to learn but if we have to sell him then £8m plus seems a fair deal. Assuming that we can re-invest the cash then I am sure 'MM will bring in quality. Personally, I would like Mings to stay another year, but Monet talks. As for Gary Roberts it was a shame that his time here was not a happy one for him. Since he left, he has played well for every team he has signed for. Good luck to him.

Infinidi Mings does have great potential, but to suggest he is the best left back in the league, after 1 season is a little naive, in my eyes. George Friend from Boro has gotta be up there for example. From xmas onwards Mings was distinctly average

I agree with essextractorboy I don't see why we compare Ming's with Cresswell and why do we criticise our young players when they are still learning their trade!!!! You cant compare the two at the same stage as Cresswell was playing for Tranmere in League One and had a considerable amount Football League games under his belt and Ming's was at Chippenham. (No disrespect to Chippenham intended) Given this is his first season at this level and we know how tough this league is he needs time to develop. That said any offers above 8M and we have to consider that sort of money and what that could do for the team. MM and TC must see something in this lad and they do seem to recognise talent from the lower leagues.
