Derby Linked With McGoldrick Move Wednesday, 8th Jul 2015 10:01 Derby County are reportedly showing interest in Town striker David McGoldrick.
According to The Sun, the Rams are keen on adding the 27-year-old to their striking options and the frontman is claimed to be “open” to the potential switch.
McGoldrick, who was born in Nottingham and has previously represented both Notts County and Nottingham Forest, has a year left on his Town contract.
Speaking last week manager Mick McCarthy said that the Ireland international is determined to make a positive start to Town’s new season having missed most of the final months of 2014/15 due to a troublesome thigh injury.
“It is a big season for him and he knows that,” he said. “We spoke about it at the end of the season and he wants to come back flying.
“He’s having a couple of extra weeks off because he was involved with the Republic of Ireland.
“Hopefully, if he stays injury free, his season will be great, not a problem at all. He’s a top player.”
McGoldrick’s family moved back to the East Midlands last season having been unable to settle in Suffolk but this is not uncommon in football and the striker is understood to be happy at the club.
At the end of last season McCarthy said that the striker was “not looking to move” and issued a hands-off warning on both McGoldrick and Daryl Murphy, with Middlesbrough's recently rebuffed offer of around £4 million reported again by some media sources today. Last summer, Town turned down a £7 million offer for McGoldrick from Leicester City.
Elsewhere, former Town goalkeeper-coach James Hollman, 37, has joined Motherwell in a similar role.

This is a RUMOUR in THE SUN... think people may be reading too much into this considering Derby have been linked with most top strikers in the championship. Honestly can't see why they'd spend big money on Murph when they already have very strong forwards in Martin, Bent, weimann and ince, and typically play one upfront anyway. As much as I'd love to see one or two more signings it seems our main aim for the rest of the window is to keep hold of one or two. Surprises me how readily some fans would get rid of murphy or mcgoldrick, we can replace Mings but would really struggle to replace what those two bring to the team beside goals.

We need to keep him at all costs, one of the most technically gifted players we've had at the club for a long time. No coincidence that our loss of form at the beginning of the year coincided with his injury

Too true BackTheBlues. When he came on against Norwich he was comfortably the best player on the park. Sears is good, Pitman is good, but they are not the same type of player as McGoldrick. If he is anywhere near what he was the season before last he is worth more to Town than anyone can pay. That said he might well be jarred off about the lack of investment. I am. The activity so far this close season has been encouraging, but there are still areas that need to be addressed for us to compete at the top. Whatever anyone might say (in it's favour) about the style we now play to be really effective you need to keep the ball. And we need more players who want to do that.

I'm glad people are mostly in favour of keeping McGoldrick. He is a wonderful footballer, and i've said it before - THE ANSWER TO OUR CREATIVE MIDFIELDER PROBLEM! And for all this wanting to be closer to his family, tough - should've thought about that before he joined and signed a contract... Mings's sale has given us some immediate financial security; keeping what is looking like a promotion winning squad together would give us even more. We're in the driving seat here - we need to remember that... And Derby can do one. Where the hell are they getting this money from..?! Looks like FFP's already died a death...

Not much point in keeping a player if he would rather be 150 miles away with his family.

Had a feeling this might happen. He's from Nottingham and they'll probably pay big wages so can't blame him for being interested in going there. Is he really going to get more game time there when they have already have Darren Bent, Chris Martin, Jonny Russell etc and only tend to play with one striker?

The offer we turned down from Leicester was in excess of £8.1m according to Ian Milne?

This rumour if true will obviously turn McGoldricks mindset and being nearer to his home he will probably want to go. This is a tricky one for the Club as he is a class player of that there is no doubt, however how good will an unsettled McGoldrick be and how fit will he stay. If we have a fit McGoldrick I would want him to stay but if a huge offer comes in then the Club will have to seriously consider it with only a year left on his contract after which I think he will leave anyway.

Well if it was reported in the Sun then it must be true! Even if it was, do you really think McGoldrick would want to join Derby and be the third choice striker behind Martin and Bent? Utter carp if you ask me!

Local businessman putting money into Derby. Spending irresponsibly let him go for £8 million, he was injured most of last season anyway. Anything to help Derby come a cropped

Some people on here are so quick to forget. He was injured pretty much all of last season! On his day he is our best and most creative player.

It is without doubt that he has the skill! the flair the ability to change games, but its the desire that concerns me, yes he has a very laid back persona, at times looks totally disinterested, but can change games in a heart beat, but at the end of the day he is not waking up to his family, something which has no price! If we all had the opportunity to be with our family and earn more money! how many of us would turn it down? one year left on his contract, after which he can walk away for free, we lose out, and he gets no signing on fee! Its a no brainer for him i,m afraid!

Now wheres all the people saying wish we sold this has got to end in him going or we give him the big contract he wants
Surco72 added 11:48 - Jul 8
Derby may want to play him in the hole as they then have a target man , pace over the top and creativity behind good combination and they have signed Weiman from Villa aswell good front four

Derby are fast becoming the team I most despise in the champ...hope they completely miss out again this season! We shouldn't sell what is arguably out best player to a rival, with McGoldrick having been a free for us if he does decide to leave at the end of the year we won't have lost out really and if we do get promotion this year I'm sure he will stay and will have had a big part to play! It would be interesting to see what derby offer...I'd dig my heels in and quote the same price as last year, if they want to pay 7mill then so be it but nothing less...out of principle if nothing else

If we got offered Chris Martin plus cash for McGoldrick then that would be very good business. Martin will always get goals and is a unselfish player also.

Karl's dad. For once I agree with most of what you say. I've a habit of disagreeing with you.lol. The only thing u do have wrong is if he goes next year on a fee, he would get a bigger signing on fee than if he goes now.

May need Chris Martin in return apparently Boro are in negotiations with Murphy amongst other clubs over his move away
SuttonTB added 12:36 - Jul 8
Lets be honest here - its only a rumour. My guess would be that this has been released by his agent so that when Town offer him a new contract he has more bargaining power to up his wages. Derby are being linked with everyone at the moment!

Didzy is easily our best footballer by a country mile !!! If we sell him we are crazy. He is the ONLY player we have who can unlock a defence. In 20 mins of play off semi against the sc¥m he showed how he could go past a player and cause problems. This was after months out injured. With a sale we are telling all our other players we have no ambition and will trust to luck and effort to get promoted. We should play him in the advanced midfielder role where he can play the final pass we are so bad at and score goals. This guy is absolute quality and no one else can do what he can in our squad. Oh hang on . We still have Tabb. ffs Marcus & Mick, we failed to go up with hard workers, you have to see that the skill and pace that Bournemouth and Sc¥m showed is how we need to go !!!! Selling Didz will be massive mistake. If it really has to happen we need top money and then have to spend it on Joniesta immediately !!!

Hope he doesn't go, Derby are spending more money than us because they have more money than us. Over the last two seasons they average 10,000 more bums on seats than us. at an avergae of £25 thats about £6million a season.
