Town Confirm Knudsen Signing
Friday, 31st Jul 2015 19:17

Town have confirmed the signing of Danish international left-back Jonas Knudsen from Esbjerg fB on a three-year deal with the Blues having an option for a further season.

The fee is officially undisclosed but is understood to be €500,000 (£350,000) with the 22-year-old’s Esbjerg contract believed to have had a buy-out clause set at that level.

Knudsen is set to make his first appearance in a Town shirt when FC Utrecht are at Portman Road for the final friendly of pre-season on Saturday afternoon.

TWTD understands that members of the Town management, including assistant boss Terry Connor, travelled to Denmark to watch Knudsen in action during the first few weeks of the Danish season.

Knudsen joined Esbjerg aged 10 from a local village club Hjerting and in March 2010 he made his first team debut against Randers aged 17, becoming the youngest player in the club's history.

He quickly established himself as a left-back and despite his youth has already played 153 domestic senior games (including appearances in the Europa League in 2013/14 and 2014/15), scoring six goals. He was part of the side which won the 2013 DBU Cup (Danish FA Cup).

Having impressed throughout 2013/14, when he was his club's Player of the Year, he broke into the Danish national team and has won two caps.

Described as a physically strong player and a hard worker who enjoys a battle, he is also known for his long throws.

Knudsen, who was previously linked with the likes of French side Marseille and Dutch giants PSV, recently played at the European U21 Championships in the Czech Republic and has also won caps at U18, U19 and U20 levels.

Knudsen has been handed the number three shirt vacated by fellow left-back Tyrone Mings when he joined AFC Bournemouth for £8 million last month.

Proof if anything we're doing stuff right under the Evans tenure. Out of nowhere comes an international for peanuts with a flexible contract and great potential.

To just get MacAnuff?

Nice one. His description of being physical and enjoys a battle is everything you'd want from a Mick McCarthy player. Welcome aboard Jonas! I'd still love a marquee signing out the blue to go with this.

TG was a top player for Town and a real nice guy so very pleased he was able to recommend him. Shame we don't look at Scandinavia more often

Excellent. Really happy about this signing. Welcome Jonas.

It's bring back flash backs from the Town of old!

Anyone who thinks McCarthy will buy a right back are probably going to be disappointed. Don't be.

Johnny Parr played brilliantly there during our best spell of 4-3-3 football.. I wouldn't be unhappy to see him there again.

How nice to see the boy turn up to sign having made an effort to look the part....rather than most British players who look like they've just been on the beach or come in from doing the gardening!
May your stay be long and successful.

Can't say I know much about him but it sounds promising. A back four of:

Knudsen Berra Chambers Parr

That looks good to me with Tommy on the bench (playing ahead of Berra vs Brentford obviously). Plus 4 strikers who scored 71 goals between them last season, 2 VERY exciting wingers and Bishop 1 year older all points towards another year of being really competitive. Would still like 1 top central midfielder and a GK ideally as Bart and Gerken both strike me as back ups rather than a number 1.

Still, got to trust and love Mick and TC's work. COYB!

A great signing. Looks like we are becoming a bit more adventurous in the transfer market & MM has probably had this up his sleeve for a while makes me think there will be a couple more coming in

Once again MM & ME get business done quietly and quickly. Sounds like a good prospect and if recent history repeats we should make a few quid in a couple of years.

Looks a very good prospect, directly replaces one that was sold. The length of the contract is interesting, strong possibility of playing most of it at the higher level.

I went out with a girl from Esberg. She had a nice first touch and wonderful ball control

Love this signing...very, very strong pedigree...capped by Denmark and all age groups through to full international. £350k in today's money looks a steal...

Very happy with the transfer dealings this summer...focus on quality like Niles Maitland & Knudsen over quantity...
