Hewitt Joins Notts County
Tuesday, 4th Aug 2015 17:44

Released Blues full-back or midfielder Elliott Hewitt has joined League Two Notts County on a two-year deal.

The 21-year-old left Town at the end of last season after three years at Portman Road, having signed from Macclesfield in the summer of 2012.

In total the Wales U21 international made 10 starts and six sub appearances for Town without scoring and also spent time on loan at Gillingham and Colchester while a Blues player.

Hewitt told the Magpies official site: “[Notts County chief scout] Guy Branston called me couple of weeks ago and that’s when I first heard.

"I played about 20 games in Macclesfield with League Two so I know a little about it.“

Former Blues Jon Stead and Scott Loach also joined for Notts County - who have made 17 signings during the close season - earlier in the summer, while former striker Ronan Murray is also a member of the squad.

Sad for him really to end up back in League Two after leaving in an exciting move to the Championship as a teenager. He always looked decent when I saw him, so I hope he can develop and hopefully make it back up to Championship level one day.

Good luck Elliott, never thought he was really given a chance. A good age to go & prove himself!

Good luck to the lad, bit disappointed he was released coz thought he always offered something and wasn't shown the same patience and faith Mings was. Thought the 2 of them were similar, both better going forward than defending, both young and in-experienced. Hope he does well

I'm really pleased he has found a club. Good luck to him.

However, unless we sign another experienced defender in time for Saturday, I'd have been happy seeing him line up at right back, with Chambers in the middle. At least he has some championship experience!

Really hope he gets a chance, especially as he's something like nott county's 20th signing of the summer or something absurd!

Good luck Elliot you have the talent to build on this and progress your career to a higher level. I feel you should have had a better chance here at PR.

Counties' gain is our loss..can't understand us getting shot of such a promising kid.

Hope you prove Mick wrong on this one Elliott..good luck.

Never shown the faith that others have been given, thought he was very good going forward, really thought he had a future with town. Good luck to you son, your better than league two.

Agree with most posts. Definitely showed promise, and will do very well if played regularly in league 2.

Hope/expect to see him make his way up the league's and maybe bite us in the bum. Good luck Elliott

Come people he's not good enough 10 games in 3 years and only a league 2 club want him say it all realy and jimmy86 if is the same level as mings why has 1 gone yo the premier league for 8m and the other to league 2 for nothing ?

I'm with pomwi Hewitt has had long enough to prove himself and he has not done that at ITFC. The one good game I saw him have was against Fulham where he played in midfield and we hardly saw him again. He went to Gillingham and the one match we saw on the box with Gillingham he was awful. I am as disappointed as anyone that he hasn't made it at ITFC but the games I have seen him in he just was not good enough. We have to trust the Club on this one and I think they have got it right - just my opinion.

Think it is only Tommy Smith(JR)andChambo(PJ)who are left from previous managers?
Good luck my boy,I also didn't think Mick stuck with you for very long as he did with Nouble and especially Tabby;but he is a pretty good judge of players so just hope you make it at the lower level.
BTW lucky players have names on their shirts,as at your new club you'll need it for a few weeks, lol.

Simply not good enough for us I'm afraid. Not a negative comment in any way shape or form, but if we'd perhaps made a glaring mistake offloading him then he wouldn't have signed a contract for a league 2 club!

I was at Reading first game of last season, and despite him being out of position @ RM he was absolutely awful that first half when if memory serves me right he was subbed half time. That said I thought Mings was also dreadful that day and he's gone the other way. If you wind the clock back 18 months, and were told one of the two had just gone to the Premier League for £8 mill, and the other had would up in league 2.... you may be somewhat surprised!

Jas... spot on post. Chambo at right back and 2 left footed cb's is not the way forward. hopefully that will change this season. it could cost us those couple of points difference between promotion or play-offs or even missing out altogether....coyb

Agree, still loads of potential and time to realise it, hope he gets back on track soon. When PJ signed him he was recovering from surgery, and injuries reared up again. Hopefully all that is in the past now.

....comments are so frustrating!!...he was brought in initially as a left back...the reason he didn't get his chance ...creswell.....sold for £4million...mings..sold for £8 million....anyone thinking that MM might have been concentrating on developing the real talent !!......no you're right MM should have developed him and we should have given cressy and Mingus away in free transfers as they weren't getting games!!!.....wise up and give credit where credit is due ....and actually think sadly he may not have been good enough ........however for your sake Elliott every success and prove MM wrong ...then it's winners all round COYB !!

Pomwi, Hewitt didn't get the same chances the 8 million pound man did, did he?? First sign of any mistakes and he was dropped, then loaned out in favour of chambers, who we all know is primarily a CB!!! He had the some potential as Mings, but wasn't given a fair chance of showing it. As Stowtractorboy said he played well against Fulham first game of the season, in midfield, then we never saw him again. Plus in my opinion Mings was average at best and was vastly overrated. He then started believing his own hype and got sloppy!! 8 million was deal of the century as he was half the player cressy was!!! In my opinion Mings wasn't any better than Hewitt. It's coz Mick bought Mings, where as hewitt was brought in by jewell

I have seen Tabb, Nouble and Smith have poor game after poor game and they have/were all been given a lot more grace than Hewitt or Henshall ever have . But it is MM 's squad and his decisions that will either succeed or fail .
I personally think we will see Chambo at right back for most of the season and Tabb playing left midfield for a number of games , hope I am wrong

Never had the rub of the green with his stint here...and to boot didn't play that badly at the start of last season and then fell out of favour with Mick, work that out?

Cornishblu - Hewitt was definitely signed as a RB (not LB)

Was as surprised as many that he wasn't given more game time as always thought he showed great promise when he did play. Remember being very impressed when he played RB against Aston Villa away in the cup.

Still, Mick obviously feels there are better options and he has been right most of the time since being here.
