Dozzell and Hayes Win Caps in Defeat
Sunday, 30th Aug 2015 17:52

Academy midfielder Andre Dozzell started and keeper Nick Hayes came on as a half-time sub as England’s U17s lost 7-3 to competition winners Portugal in their final game at the FA International Tournament at Burton’s Pirelli Stadium this afternoon.

Dozzell, winning his third cap, having started all the previous games at the tournament, helped create England’s second goal, feeding Keanan Bennetts on halfway as they broke forward two-versus-one, the Tottenham winger moving it on to the overlapping Mackenzie Heaney, who scored.

The 16-year-old, who scored in the 2-1 win against Turkey in the second match, went close to scoring on a couple of occasions, the Portuguese keeper tipping an effort over.

Hayes was winning his second cap having started against Turkey. The 16-year-old came on for the second half of the 80-minute game with the score already 5-3 to the visitors.

England U17s: 1 Matthew Yates (Derby County) (13 Nick Hayes (Ipswich Town) 41), 2 Treoh Chalobah (Chelsea) (C), 5 Jaden Brown (Tottenham Hotspur), 17 Jordan Williams (Huddersfield) (16 Diego Lattie (Manchester City) 58), 3 Vashon Neufville (West Ham United) (6 Edward Francis (Manchester City) 41), 4 Sadou Diallo (Manchester City), 8 Andre Dozzell (Ipswich Town) (14 Charlie Gilmour (Arsenal) 78), 15 Mackenzie Heaney (Newcastle United), 10 Adam Lewis (Liverpool) (12 Elliot Embleton (Sunderland) 50), 11 Keanan Bennetts (Tottenham Hotspur) (19 Samuel Shashoua (Tottenham Hotspur) 41), 9 Niall Ennis (Wolves) (18 Tyrese Campbell (Manchester City) 78). Four of them on the books of Man City - none of whom are likely to progress to their first team. This is what is wrong with English football...

Fixed_it, if there good enough they will make it. City have put a lot into their academy with an eye on the ever increasing home grown player rules. If they don't make it they will get best coaching and move on to suitable clubs that are appropriate for their level.

Only 4 Championship players rest Premiership.
1 from Reading,1 from Wolves BUT 2 from itFC.
This should help our Cat 1 applcn if we are still going ahead,as appear to be on back burner.
Also all the youth team players coming through to first team should also make a difference, and will stop Cat 1 teams taking our best players(Harry Clarke to Arsenal)

I was there - young Dozzell really should have scored but looked very comfortable on the ball.

No real stand outs for England but Portugal's No. 7 was unbelievably good.
