Hyam on as Sub as Rotherham Lose
Saturday, 5th Dec 2015 17:34

Luke Hyam came on as a 57th minute substitute as his loan club Rotherham United lost 2-1 at home to Wolves in the Championship this afternoon.

Hyam was making his second sub appearance for the Millers following more than 10 months out with a knee injury. The 24-year-old is at the New York Stadium until January 23rd.

Meanwhile, Matt Clarke played the full 90 minutes for Portsmouth as they beat Accrington Stanley 1-0 at Fratton Park in the FA Cup second round.

Keeper Michael Crowe was an unused sub as Stevenage exited the competition at the hands of Yeovil, who won 1-0 at Huish Park.

Cameron Stewart’s Doncaster Rovers are in FA Cup action at Cambridge on Sunday, while James Alabi’s Grimsby face Shrewsbury at Blundell Park on Monday.

Town will be in the hat for the third round draw which takes place on Monday at 7pm.

Elsewhere, young striker Cemal Ramadan played the full 90 minutes as Bury Town lost 3-0 at Hornchurch in the Ryman Premier League.

Josh Emmanuel and Josh Yorwerth are on loan at Crawley Town, who weren’t in action this afternoon.

Surely hyam would be better coming off our bench for the last half hour.
even unfit he would be twice as good as coke

Rubbish superblues. Coke has more quality on the ball than Hyam. People are blinkered by the fact he's a local boy. That doesn't make up for the fact he is a very limited footballer with the ball at his feet...

Coke certainly doesn't have more quality on the ball than Hyam. Coke is one of the poorest players I've ever seen in a Town shirt. I just don't see what he brings to the team whatsoever. That's not saying that Hyam has quality however, as he doesn't (all sideways and backwards), but unlike Coke, at least he has energy (in a headless chicken sort of way). I do get the opinion Hyam is more worried about how perfect his hair is than his football however, he can't leave his hair alone if you ever watch him. Hyam unfortunately never will be good enough for this level, he' be good for league one. Coke wouldn't lookout of place in League Two. The problem is decent midfielders cost money (Bru was a stroke of luck, as he is our best midfielder by far and we definitely miss him whenever he doesn't play). Until we buy a decent midfielder (which will never happen under FFP while we are £80M+ in debt)), we are stuck with all of these these average players, and will remain a championship club indefinitely as far as I can see.

Agree Kentish Tractor. The only debate in the stands at ITFC is whether Coke will make the "worst 10 players of all time" for Town. He's Isthmian Premier League at best but to be fair on the player he was looking at possible contracts in League 2 prior to being signed by MM. He had a bad time at Sheffield Wednesday and at his loan clubs and fully expected to move down a couple of divisions. Sad thing is this was a great opportunity and he's been awful to date. But as you have said, we are not in a financial position to bring in solid Championship players as back ups. When he was signed, MM must have thought that we had easily enough midfielders and this guy was cover. Unfortunately he's been used way too much.

Hyam is different quality entirely and it's unfair to compare him to Coke. Hyam is a solid Chamionship player.

Hyam should be at Portman Road if he's fit to play at Rotherham he's fit to play for Ipswich. Definitely better cover than Coke.

I can't see how this is even a topic for debate. It is crystal clear that Hyam is a better player in all departments. If this was a "should we be playing Stewart or Coke?" Then that would be a bit more interesting. Stewart clearly has more ability and is a better footballer but I'd go with Coke on principle. He's a better character to have around the place, a family man who seems to have good values. I do feel desperately sorry for Coke, this was a real opportunity to resurrect his career and he's well and truly blown it. His Wikipedia page doesn't help (comparing himself to Gerrard etc).
As has already been stated countless times, MCCarthy probably didn't expect him to have much game time when he signed. Which given the amount of quality midfielders we have, was a good call.

If you lot can't see just what a limited footballer hyam is then you're deluded. He is poor with the ball at his feet, hence the sideways, backwards passing. The one thing he does add is tenacity and adds real bite to our midfield and energy. He's a good holding midfielder, who puts himself about, buy don't kid ya self into thinking he's a good footballer.

Agree Jimmy86. Hyam is a limited footballer and he's poor with the ball. But have you watched Coke? Poor mans Amir Karic?
Guentchev. The best teams don't care about character. Stewart is better than Coke so play Stewart. It's winning that counts. I am a good person but that doesn't mean I deserve my place in the team.
Carsey. Agree. There is no way Hyam shouldn't be in the team.

I agree with the general consensus above, Hyamis probably better than Coke, however he would not improve our first 11, just maybe the bench if the only option we have is Coke. He is not going to come back into our side and make us into a team that can win every game, sorry he is not our saviour, just maybe a bit better than what's there at the moment (Coke)!

PJewellisaGod just out of interest, what is your obsession with comparing Giles Coke to Amir Karic? Totally different types of player who played in different positions seperated by 15 years of football. Seems a pretty irrelevant comparison as just about all they have in common is that they've both played football (badly) for Ipswich?

Well said. Karic actually played 50 odd times for Slovenia and played in defence (left side?). Saw him play for Malecnik in 2014 in a friendly and can't see the comparison. Honestly can't remember his time at ITFC it was so long ago, can't have made a great impression. Coke's just sadly turned into a scapegoat (he's useless/never been in a winning team etc). He's really awful but free transfers are hit and miss.
