Ticket Promotion for Preston, Pompey All-Ticket
Tuesday, 5th Jan 2016 19:24

Town are holding a ticket promotion at the home game against Preston North End on Saturday 16th January, while this weekend's FA Cup tie against Portsmouth is an all-ticket match with no tickets on the turnstiles.

Season ticket holders can buy up to four additional tickets for the Preston game at £10 for adults, £8 for concessions and £3 for under-16 either online from ITFC Direct or in Planet Blue before 1.30pm on the day of the game.

Meanwhile, Saturday’s third round FA Cup tie against League Two Pompey is an all-ticket match with no tickets available on the turnstiles.

Home fans can buy tickets in Planet Blue on Portman Road until 1.30pm on the day of the game if they have bought tickets from the club over the last 10 years or from ITFC Direct using the print-at-home option up until kick-off.

The game isn’t covered by season ticket cards with paper tickets having been issued to all those who have bought seats for the game.

Tickets for Saturday’s game are £15 for adults, £10 for concessions and £3 under-16s throughout the ground. Portsmouth have sold their allocation of 2,500 tickets.

Great, nice gesture. Can I get a refund for the £27.50 I have already paid for the Preston game & get a £10 one instead?

Well, that's it then! My extended family plus a few Blue friends were planning to arrive at Ipswich Station shortly after 2pm, walk the Johnny Wark to Portman Road, and buy tickets at the newly-painted turnstile. We now cannot buy our precious bits of paper in advance because we, our party, may be five, seven or even fifteen home fans, and we will not know our final tally of scarfs and rosettes due to our various work/family commitments etc. until Saturday morning.
Now, alas, there is no need. Our ITFC outing is therefore cancelled. Well done the Ticket Office! You have really thought this through!

I hope you are sending this in an email to the Club. This is the wrong forum for your message. I'm sure the club can help you if you tell them.

You don't want a big crowd then Town, to watch the 2nd team?

Sibelius I'd love to know after ArnieM's post if you do contact the club they are willing to help!

I can see the logic behind this:

Portsmouth, for whatever reason, decided not to take the full allocation open to them and have already sold out their tickets.

Given that Portsmouth fans have a reputation for having a slightly 'lively' element amongst them, the club have decided not to risk on-the-day sales as they believe the risk of away supporters in home areas to be too high.

Yes it's a bit galling for those who, for good reason, decided not to buy in advance, and perhaps there's an argument for the club having some sort of claim against Portsmouth for causing this situation?

Thanks ArnieM, But no chance. There is no longer a specific telephone helpline number and no "person" to contact. Emails are only an excuse for marketing and not customer service.
Besides, I'm sure someone from the club reads all these threads. (Well, being a good business they should!)
I've had previous experiences with buying advance tickets when a "Towen" fan or two from my block of tickets has had to drop out at the last minute through no fault of their own. (This was case at Brighton very recently also)
I guess I'm too used to the very olden days when I lived in Ipswich and used to simply walk down to the ground. TWTD indeed!
Season tickets were introduced when a working man had a predictable diary. It's different nowadays. I have a potential share of a Chelsea season ticket these days on a corporate ticket via my son. What lunacy! (I hate the very notion of that over-hyped team!) But, I digress. There needs to be a whole new thinking on marketing. I wish I knew the answers.
One day all clubs will realise that running a football "business" is very different from selling tickets to an "event" such as a concert. Talking of which, Covent Garden Opera always have tickets available on the day for only £3.......hmmmm

A thread on the forum suggests contacting jade.cole@itfc.co.uk (PR) or lee.hyde@itfc.co.uk (head of ticketing/sales) who may well be able to help out.

Hope this helps.

Why not buy online and print at home before catching the train?

Re your CGO comment, though, Sibelius...

I'm sure there's no history in opera of Wagner afficionados invading the stage at a Strauss performance, or having to segregate rival Mozart and Beethoven fans for fear of violence!

uefacup81: On the contrary, there were serious riots in many opera houses over the years, notably with the first performance of Stravinsky's ballet, The Rite of Spring.

Auntie Blue: Thank you kindly. However, the problem is not buying tickets as such. I think my comments make this clear.

uefacup81: More seriously, I can also see the logic in all this and your main post is most pertinent. However, I'm sure you will concur that an earlier decision on ticket sales in general for such a match as this would have left many fans feeling more "connected," for want of a better word!

I completely agree that there could have been more communication on this. I'm sure neither club would want to 'drop the other in it', but I wouldn't be surprised if Portsmouth are the main catalyst here, as the reduced proceeds would affect them more.

It would have been nice, however, to maybe see Town take a more charitable stance and offer to absorb the increased policing costs (I can't imagine that they'd eclipse the proceeds from the match) in order to increase attendance and create a better atmosphere.

From a business/pragmatic point of view, though, I imagine bending over backwards to provide more away tickets would only benefit Portsmouth in terms of increased/improved away support, so there's no real incentive (barring pure altruism) for Town to help Portsmouth out in this way.

uefacup81: An excellent and well-considered summary of the situation. An example for many posters I think! Thank you.
Cheers!

It would not surprise me in the least if Suffolk Police have influenced the all-ticket decision.
The decision will deter many home supporters who like to make a late decision on whether or not to attend and will not bother to faff around with laptops/printers or turn up 90 minutes early to queue for a ticket.

As per the above, I'm sure you'll not have any problem securing tickets, call the ticket phoneline - 03330 05 05 03 - or email Lee Hyde at the address posted above.

Thanks, Phil. But you miss the point.
There is absolutely no problem buying tickets in advance.
There is, however, no facility for those groups of fans, be they family groups or other collaborations, who plan a "multi-ticket" arrival at the "Home Fans" End and who have serious problems with the "5 Tickets Rule" which seems to be the case with all Championship Clubs these days.
You clearly realise that we all have to buy tickets in advance, but that is not the issue. There is no flexibility. (The Forum has further comments)
We (us lot, this fervent clan now living in Surrey) will not now attend the Portsmouth game because we are not sure how many of us will be able to cheer on the team. It's a waste of money if one or more of us cannot attend.
Anyway, Happy New Year........and we all need a little moan!

It all appears rather trivial. I don't imagine that ITFC have had a sit down and thought about what they could do to annoy a few people this weekend. It is evidently done due to security. I doubt it's a financial one as restricting tickets sales doesn't make financial sense.

Plus, for a group of potentially 15 people who want to attend a match, they could surely have a number turn up at 1.30pm at Planet Blue on match day to purchase tickets. Or alternatively contact any of the email addresses or phone numbers to explain the situation. From my personal experience, the club have always been willing to assist in anyway they can.

Sibelius- you've been offered good advice of who and how to contact the club to at least discuss and seek a solution. You dont seem to want to even try, just moan. In which case perhaps its better you stay away.

Think this is a great idea but why announce so late ? Having spent £27.50 on a ticket only this Monday ! I know loads of season ticket holders so the £10 ticket would have come into play. Love the idea bit unhappy with the timing !

Westy added 08:04 - Jan 6
Not another Ticket Promotion ! The Club need to reduce prices generally. Not fair on the people who have paid full price. I know of several former Season Ticket holders whom did not renew three years ago because they felt the Club was taking advantage of their loyalty.

Sibelius - Moan, moan, moan. Its just like a post from my wife. Call the bloomin number Phils given and sort it out. Get one of your party to register as a customer as well, turn up at 1.00pm instead to collect from Planet Blue and go have a beer before the match to chill out ......

As a ST holder I am happy with the Cup match price given it will likely be a second string Ipswich team that take the field although they still ought to beat Portsmouth.
Regarding the ticket promotion for PNE I always feel a little annoyed and hard done by when these games are announced because I have paid up front and there is never any hint of something back. Maybe a free beer or pie from the bar wouldn't be asking too much.
