McCarthy Confirms Parr Close to Strømsgodset Move Saturday, 9th Jan 2016 17:40 Town boss Mick McCarthy has confirmed that full-back Jonny Parr is close to joining Strømsgodset back in his native Norway. TWTD revealed that the Blues were in talks with the Norwegian top flight side last Saturday and that a deal was close on Friday.
“There is a potential move for him,” McCarthy confirmed at his press conference following the 2-2 FA Cup draw with Portsmouth.
“I think that’s his team and he really wants to go back. He doesn’t want to be here any more, he’s got that chance to go back.
“There’s sort of not really any point in keeping him, his contract is up at the end of the season, that’s going to be a player down for me.
“I think it’s better for him that he goes and good luck to him because he’s been a good player for me, he’s come in and stepped in, coming on at Millwall and scoring, he’s done all of those jobs, so if he gets his chance, and that’s what he wants to do, it’s probably best for all parties.”
Parr, who was left out of today's 18, joined the Blues following his release by Crystal Palace in the summer of 2014 and has made 29 starts and 14 sub appearances, scoring three goals.
Strømsgodset boss, former Sheffield United striker Jostein Flo, later told Norwegian TV channel TV 2: "We've agreed with Ipswich the transfer of Jonathan Parr, which was why he wasn't in their squad today.
"It remains for personal terms to be agreed and medical examinations to be taken over the weekend, but I have great faith that this will be in order and that Jonathan will be our player."
We understand that the deal could be completed as soon as Monday with Norwegian sources indicating that Strømsgodset will pay the Blues a fee of around £70,000. McCarthy will seems certain to bring in another right-back as cover.

Some of McCarthy's decisions beggar belief, he brings in two untried centre-backs for the cup game and then moves Chambers to centre-back because that idea was clearly not working out. Johnny Parr should have been at right-back yesterday, where he should have been for most of the season. It's pretty clear to most supporters that he didn't want to leave but became totally frustrated with the lack of first team football. Footballers want to play and feel wanted. Crystal Palace's supporters player of the year a couple of years back. Comes into our team at Forest and scores a great goal and gets dropped. In Mick we trust...I don't think so....and playing a weakened Team yesterday is disrespectful to those supporters who love the FA Cup. If Teams don't value the F.A. Cup and the prize money available they should donate their share to grass roots football.

What a shame. Better full back than both Knudsen and Chambers. I still have no idea why he hasn't played the amount of games that he should and you can't blame him for wanting out. Good luck Jonny!

Agree with most on here that it is a loss to Ipswich Town, presumably McCarthy doesn't. Paris Blue is happy with Chambers at right back.Presume did not see yesterdays game,as both Pompeys goals came down that side;an as usual Chambers slow to get back, and passing to a blue shirt non existent.

What do people not understand he is going home not to another team in England, he DOES NOT want to be in this country so why would mick play him?? Seriously stop the mick bashing it's getting boring.

A decent though pretty average player but I wish him good luck. To everyone who seems to think he is a wonder player and MM won't play him simply because he is not a favourite just ask yourself why no other Championship side has come in for him when reputedly he is going for £70k!!! There seems to be an anti MM gang mentality on here that twists all events to suit the prejudices, It would be good to see more rationale discussion that recognises shades of grey rather than presenting everything as either back or white.

good luck to him, never showed enough consistency in his favourite position to oust mings or knudsen, looked better wide midfield, but he's behind fraser, amn, oar (and maybe toure, sears & varney?) there now. good move for him to home and hopefully a chance for him to be seen by his national coach.

Absolutely rediculous desicion to let him go , should be playing every week imo !!! And dont think for one minute he will be replaced , because he wont !!!!! The powers that be are clearly not prepared to spend ANYTHING now to take this club forward !! EVERYONE near the top is strenghthening except us once again !!!! Its soul destroying

Pablo123 tell me how are we getting players to play for free nowadays? £15k a week on a 3 year deal equals £2.3m just in wages, that is quite an "investment" let alone. Why do people consistently insist we need to pay a £2-3m price tag first.

Why bother signing him in the first place? Really excited when we did sign him as I thought what a great acquisition, but then it didn't matter what he did when he got a few minutes here and there he always got dropped.Definitely dropped a ckollob here as in my opinion he was our best defender. As for SIGNING a replacement.......... GET REAL!

There is no way we will get in a replacement as we have Coke and Digby now.

43 appearances in a season and a half means he has been on the pitch for roughly two thirds of the matches played since he arrived. This doesn't suggest that MM had a problem with his attitude or the way he trained, but rather that MM saw him more as a midfielder than a defender - something Parr possibly disagrees with. Given the chance to play in his preferred position back in his own country, you can't really blame him for wanting to take it. I did think the LB position would be his once Mings left, but MM obviously sees potential in Knudsen - only time will tell.

I'm not disappointed that he is leaving but I'm disappointed that he has not been given a chance in the full back positions. Am I right is saying that he was the Crystal Palace player of the year when he came here ?

I honestly don't believe (unlike most it seems) that Parr is our best full back. He is a decent squad player but no more than that. Only 29 starts and a few niggling injuries this year. I wish him well for the future but I think some people have turned him into the best player in the world in their heads while he hasn't played.
