Colchester Keen on Hammond
Thursday, 3rd Mar 2016 19:58

Colchester United are understood to be the latest club showing interest in Blues youngster Kyle Hammond.

The League One table-proppers are believed to be keen on signing the 20-year-old on an initial month’s loan with a view to a permanent deal.

As previously reported, the right-back or midfielder had been close to a move to Ryman League Premier Division Needham Market.

Hammond was on the bench for Town during the FA Cup replay at Portsmouth recently but is still to make his senior debut and hasn’t been in a Championship matchday 18 this season.

The ex-Westbourne High School pupil is out of contract at the end of the campaign having been handed a one-year deal last summer after spending much of the previous two seasons out with knee injuries.

Meanwhile, former Town central defender and academy chief Tony Humes is to return to the U’s as their director of football from March 7th.

The 49-year-old left the Colchester manager's job by mutual consent four months ago with Kevin Keen subsequently taking charge.

Glad to hear that Tony Humes is returning as he really has done as much as possible for Colchester over several years. Good that the club recognise this.

Seems unlikely to make the grade (not helped by injuries), so be nice to keep him local.
