McCarthy Delighted for Improving Knudsen
Friday, 11th Mar 2016 11:10

Boss Mick McCarthy says left-back Jonas Knudsen has improved since he joined the Blues from hometown club Esbjerg fB last summer and is delighted that the 23-year-old has been called into the Denmark squad for the first time while a Town player.

“I don’t know what he did before he came here, in terms of how he was playing and what they thought of him then, but I think he’s improved since he’s come here, in terms of playing in the league,” McCarthy said.

“I think it’s certainly a different competition to what he was used to playing in, the physical nature of it.

“And he’s grasped that, I think he’s relished that and done really well. I’m pleased with him and delighted for him [that he's won the call-up].”

Knudsen, who has been nicknamed Mad Dog by his Town team-mates, won two senior caps prior to joining the Blues, in addition to 17 caps at U21 level, six with U18s, nine for the U19s and three with the U20s.

Meanwhile, the Town boss wasn’t surprised to see Kevin Bru net his second goal of the season at Bolton on Tuesday and believes the Mauritian international should be scoring more regularly.

“He showed the quality he’s got, technically he’s very good,” McCarthy added. “If he goes out with TC on a Friday morning he’s a very good finisher.

“Technically he’s as good as anybody in the club and he should score more goals. It would be nice to see him on the goal sheet, especially between now and the end of the season.”

The Blues manager was also impressed with the contribution Luke Varney made after coming off the bench at the Macron Stadium.

“I thought he did well when he came on and he certainly adds something to it,” he continued.

“There’s certainly an energy and a buzz about him when he comes on now he’s fully fit. He’ll help us between now and the end of the season.”

Cant disagree with any of that Mick,as I had already said that Jonas is making steady progress.

Good luck tomorrow lads.

Agree, Seasider. Has had his critics with high expectations on here and unfortunately had big boots to fill in that position, but steadily coming into his own.

He is a very promising player and under MM and TC he will only improve to be a very competent defender.

Agree with all above comments and also nice to see Reg Varney getting some praise.
Although Reg will always be a bit part player I like his effort and desire.
Great to have around the club.

He's still a good age at 23 so plenty of time for further development and improvement.
