Bosses at Charlton as Town Drop to Ninth
Sunday, 13th Mar 2016 17:52

Boss Mick McCarthy and his assistant Terry Connor were at the Valley this afternoon to watch strugglers Charlton beat promotion challengers Middlesbrough 2-0.

Town face the Addicks, who remain second bottom, five points from safety, at Portman Road on Tuesday 5th April, while they travel to Teesside to take on still-second Boro on Saturday 23rd April.

Earlier, the Blues dropped to ninth in the Championship following Birmingham’s 0-0 draw at Wolves.

Town are now a place behind Birmingham on goal difference, both four points from the top six with a game in hand.

Meanwhile, the Blues’ U21s are in action away against Cardiff at the Bluebirds’ training ground on Monday afternoon (KO 2pm).

Trialist Keiran Morphew, who is spending the week with Town, isn’t expected to be involved but will train with the first-team squad at Playford Road.

Surely they must ask themselves what did Charlton do to beat Middlesbrough and make sure we don't allow them to do it to us on Tuesday. I know some will say there is no easy game in the Championship etc. but they are at the wrong end of the table for a reason. McCarthy must go out to batter the likes of Charlton when at Portman Road and FFS let the players play.

Hope they're watching Callum Harriot, a good young winger who should be a target if Charlton go down

Maybe they are running the rule over a few players after being promised a few million in the summer . Who knows?

They both live in London, don't they?
Hope I am wrong,do Mick and Terry or both or none take training sessions with players?
Reasoning is Murphy trained before Cardiff game and Mick said he had spoken to him,of course you would Mick he is right in front of you in training.Edited, sounded like spoke to him on the phone. So then I thought corners(shipping goals-recently,TRAINING ISSUE),taking corners,Sears taking short corners,TRAINING ISSUE.Don't drop regulars they can train themselves,Mick and Terry don't need to attend training,am i GOING MAD?

Tractorboy1985 Good point well made 😃 I was getting all excited about Tuesday but my comment still stands about letting our lot go out and play and try to beat the opposition.

Gudmundson, Harriot, Lookman, all should reasonable targets for us at the end of the season, and they ARE better than what we've got.

Why would we want Charlton players who have failed this season, lets face it any player with an ounce of talent wouldnt wnat to sign for ITFC and become a robot. Roll on 2018 when his contract is up.

On paper our remaining home games look very winnable, but then all of those teams are fighting for their lives. I can't see us losing too many though. Away from home will be the problem. Wolves is winnable, but the rest are very tough. Big week, with Blackburn perhaps the easiest game as they have very little to play for.

Ademola Lookman impressed me when I saw him at the Valley last November. Young, comfortable on the ball, creative. We need to poach players like this....oh wait.

But how many home games have we looked convincing in. On Saturday the refreshing thing was the guest commentator. Says what all Town fans say, a creative midfielder needed. To Mmicks defence we have 3 quality players who for most Saturdays ' sit in the stand'

Lookman would be a fantastic little signing but in our dreams.

TR11BLU - they are 16th and with goal difference the equivalent of 8pts clear of relegation. I can't see them getting sucked in to it. I still think this is an easier game, although appreciate there are no gimmes. However, we really ought to win this game.
