Bishop Could Join McGoldrick and Bru on Bus to Wolves, But Murphy Out
Thursday, 31st Mar 2016 14:03

Town boss Mick McCarthy has revealed that David McGoldrick will be on the bus travelling to Wolves tomorrow for Saturday’s game at Molineux and he could be joined by midfielder Teddy Bishop, who has missed the entire season up to now. Kevin Bru is also expected to make the trip despite suffering a knock while away with Mauritius but Daryl Murphy has been ruled out.

Murphy suffered a calf injury during the Republic of Ireland’s 1-0 friendly victory over Switzerland and the Town boss confirmed he will miss the weekend game and is a doubt for the two home fixtures later in the week.

“He won’t be available on Saturday and we’ll see how he is for the two games after that, Saturday, Tuesday, Saturday,” McCarthy said. “At the moment we don’t know, but he’ll be missing on Saturday.

“We’ve had a few spanners thrown in along the way and it’s another challenge that we’ve got to overcome.

“Kevin Bru’s trained this morning, he’s done some work with Matt Byard the physio and Lids [fitness coach Andy Liddell] and they say he’s OK. We’ll see if there’s any reaction but if not he’ll be training and on the bus to Wolves.”

McCarthy confirmed that McGoldrick, out since mid-December with a hamstring injury, will be in the squad at Molineux and that he could be joined by Bishop, who has missed the whole season so far, also due to hamstring problems.

“The good news is that Didzy’s on the bus and there’s every chance that Bish will be there as well,” the Town boss enthused. “He’s trained with the squad this week, he trained on Monday and Tuesday, really intense sessions.

“He had his recovery day yesterday like all the others and he’s trained again today. He doesn’t feel anything, so that’s a real plus.

“Please don’t think straight away they’ll both be ready to start and play 90 minutes because that would be a huge ask.

“But they’re both quality players that we might be able to get sub appearances out of and that would be a bonus, having those two players going on.”

McCarthy didn’t entirely rule out McGoldrick starting but played down its likelihood.

“He’s had one U21 game and he’s been out for a long time,” he added. “It’s not manager-speak, it’s common sense, if you start a game and play for 60 minutes very often, especially in the Championship, it can be really tough and physical and turgid and horrible and scruffy and scrappy with not a lot of chances.

‘When you’ve got quality players on for 30 minutes and you know they’ve got quality and they’re not having to bust their guts to run around and chase it and harry it, that’s when chances come.

"And if you’ve got someone like Didz it would be more worthwhile to have him on when the game opens up and not having to do all that graft to get a foothold in the game.”

Meanwhile, McCarthy says winger Ryan Fraser is still with his parent club Bournemouth as he recovers from his hamstring injury.

“He won’t be on the bus on Friday or Monday, he’s not right yet. We’ve no timescale on that.”

Well we have got something to lose and that's them being out for even longer. No point in rushing r them back to be sidelined for longer. COYB!

There's no time left for faffing around Mick, start Didsy at Wolves and bring Pitman on when he's knackered.

Purely from Mick's comments here though I can see Pitman starting, winning 1/20 headers and we'll end the game trailing with 4 strikers on and as toothless as a frog.

These words just make me cringe now.

"especially in the Championship, it can be really tough and physical and turgid and horrible and scruffy and scrappy with not a lot of chances"

Anyway 3 points against wolves otherwise it is definitely all over and we can be put out of our misery. I wonder how different this season could have been if we had Bru, Bishop and Mcgoldrick fit all year.

Definitely can't blame MM for everything this year we have been very unlucky with injuries to almost all our creative players.

Murphy being injured might be a blessing in disguise.
It's difficult to drop your 27-goal talisman and, even though, he's been average this season, there's always the possibility his presence will create something.
But Pitman and Sears are more than capable and Murphy's absence will mean we have to play slightly different.
I like Bru but, blimey, he does like an injury drama, doesn't he?
Always on the deck, regularly bottles tackles, forever see him leaving grounds with a limp or protective boot.
Then, miraculously, he's back the next game. Man up, pal.

Lids = Andy Liddell
Didzy = David McGoldrick
Bish = Teddy Bishop

Could be that McCarthy's nickname is Dino as in dinosaur

I know Goldieblue... When I read:

"...it can be really tough and physical and turgid and horrible and scruffy and scrappy with not a lot of chances"

I thought it was going to carry on: "and sometimes the opposition play that way too..."

Good to see Bishop back in the fold, but I doubt very much he will play, due to fitness. This is a must win game, and how many times have I said that.hmmmm.! But it really is this time.IF we can get six points from out next two games, then we might just be in with a change depending on other results. All we can do is hope.(What a shame).I shall be at Wolves so don't let me down with a cr@p team selection MM.👍

well gooto see the bishop and didsy back in the fold, but they will only make a cameo apperance, if MM picks a good play on the deck starting 11 then we should only need to give them a run out with 20 mins to go, if how ever MM bottles it and play the you know who center 3 then yes our season is scewed, i would rather see us sink with all guns blazing then out of 11 16 inch guns firing we only have 2 and the have damp gunpowder then yep you have lost the plot MM.

so for me the only starting 11 has to be this.

bart

usual back 4
feeney foley skuse or hyam pringle

pitman sears.

Perhaps Mick could pop over to Villa Park,as he is in the area lol.

Hope he plays a more attacking midfield than the last game even though we are away.I would like to see him start with Bru Pringle Feeney and Foley;or at least give them more game time than Hyam,Douglas or sideways Skues.

Think Didsy could get the last half hour,or even a bit more;with Teddy Bishop making a cameo appearance at best.

Will be interesting to see if he makes any changes, despite him admitting after the last match that he got it wrong. He may have said this in the heat of the moment after the match, and having had time to contemplate, could play all his undroppables again.

I do hope that this conservative, ultra cautious and rather negative manager, does at least make a couple of changes to the starting line up;because there are several candidates who couldn't complain if they lost their place after the Rotherham debacle.

Give Skuse & Douglas the rest of the season off and see what might happen if we play Hyam as the one holding/defensive midfielder alongside combinations of Bru, Bishop, Foley, Feeney, Pringle, AMN and even McGoldrick in a 'behind the front 2' role, depending on fitness and if we are winning or chasing the game.
The keeper and back 4 will continue to pick itself and Sears will start alongside one of Pitman or Murphy anyway, so lets throw a reasonable amount of caution to the wind across the middle and if we miss out on the playoffs lets do it by being creative & attacking in our approach and by playing football.

about 3 weeks too late for both to be getting back into contention, but lets hope they both stay fit and get a run in the team.

Varney ahead of Pitman for me.

If our defenders are put under pressure they will hoof it, Murphy or no Murphy. Varney wins headers, Pitman doesn't. If we play 'proper' wingers then I'd like to think we might get a cross or 2 in, again Varney the better option. Pitman/McGoldrick to come on when he is knackered.

Let's be honest Bish will be on the bus and that's about it...he won't be in the squad he hasn't even played a game for the under 21's but there is a chance of McG coming on maybe as a sub. I wouldn't get too over excited with this. We were told back in late January that McG and Bish were making solid inroads back to full fitness and that Bish being 'on the bus' is probably just a moral boaster to the other players and probably himself.

Will be great to see both players back. It will be interesting to see McGoldick's attitude. For me it has been questionable from the day he went missing at Derby last year after the Leicester (alleged) interest.
Potentially we could play football, but alas McCarthy's anti-football/hoofball has done too much damage for me.
It's a shame he will hide behind injuiries when in fact we still had the ability to play and do well. He has persisted with the worst full backs in memory, the unbalanced centre backs have lost the ability or confidence to pass, no midfield, favourites only.

Seeing how things have turned out this year, I bet McGoldrick wishes he had gone to Leicester.

Sorry to be a damp squib - but anyone who has ever played at a decent level or managed will know if you've been out for more than a month, you physically won't be able to play a full game.
You're match fitness and sharpness will also be way off - it will take both of them a minimum of 30 minutes to get used to the pace.

Wolves away will also be a hard battle with not a lot of football (any team that goes there).
Get them on with 30 to go - get them ready to start the next game!

We've waited this long - no need to injure them now in hast!

Save all our good players for next season. I assumed ME/MM ruled out a promotion push in January so why not plan for next season, not take chances esp with Bish. Try out some kids that might then actually be allowed to come through.
