Knudsen After Repeat Performance But Better Results
Tuesday, 5th Apr 2016 06:00

Defender Jonas Knudsen believes a repeat of the performance in Saturday’s goalless draw at Wolves over Town’s remaining seven games will provide their play-off chances with a major boost.

The Danish left-back is of course referring to the nature of their display at Molineux, rather than the 0-0 scoreline, which was much improved on their previous outing, the 1-0 home defeat by Rotherham prior to the two-week long international break.

All that was missing at the weekend was the goal needed to secure victory and 23-year-old Knudsen reflected: “It was an important game and I thought we played very well. We played our football because against Rotherham in our previous game we didn’t do that and it wasn’t good.

“It was nice to see us doing what we are good at and we should have scored, but in some games you just can’t get the ball over the line and it was one of those games.

“Also, you can get games when you play badly but still manage to win 1-0 and I am thinking of our game at Huddersfield when we scored and managed to hold on for three points.

“Now we have seven games left and if we can play the way we did against Wolves I think we have a good chance of getting some good results.

"The big plus from Wolves was the clean sheet and we need to take that into our next game against Charlton and hopefully repeat it.

“We have two tough home games this week and if we can keep clean sheets it will be a big help. We also know that we were letting in too many easy goals earlier in the season but we all know each other much better now and I feel comfortable in the backline with the three other lads.

“The whole team should take credit for the clean sheet but as a back four it always means a lot to us if we don’t concede any goals.”

The Molineux shut-out was Town’s second in the space of three games and they have only shipped four goals in their last seven, vastly improved defensive statistics from earlier in the season.

“But it’s the goals-for column that is letting them down, with six blanks — and just eight goals in total — from their last 12 fixtures.

On a personal note, Knudsen believes he is currently playing his best football of a busy debut season in English football following his transfer from Esbjerg last summer that saw him sign a three-year deal with Town — and he is keen to make a scoring contribution before the season ends.

He added: “I think this is my most consistent spell. I have been taking things step by step. First of all, when I came over from Denmark to sign for the club, I had to be 100 per cent focused on my defending. That was my priority before moving on to the next stage of my development in the English game.

“I think I have progressed since then and my form has improved. I have had some good games for Ipswich and I have also been with the Danish national team. Everything is good, although I would like to score at least one goal this season.

“I am definitely getting closer and I had some shots in our last game — even a couple of headers when we played Rotherham.

“I think it will come in our next few games. I want to get forward into the box and create, or even score, some goals. If you keep doing the same things in football one day it will pay off — maybe it could be against Charlton, you never know.”

Knudsen could be in line for 'most improved player' this season, although I can't think who else there is that really challenges for that.

Had his best game yet on Saturday, by a mile.
Defended well and his getting forward and link up with Freddie first half especially, was very promising.
Good on yer Knudsen

Sensible comments, I thought we played some good stuff at times on Saturday. Can't help but feel that had we of scrapped in 1-0 win people would be saying that it was a good performance.

He had a couple of decent chances at the goal on Saturday. Good to see him marauding up front a bit more.

Was excited by Knudsen seeing him in the pre-season friendly against Utrecht and have stood by him. Difficult for anyone to come to this country and play well and think he will continue to learn the English game and improve along the way.

Think Knuds has suffered due to our inability to take advantage of his long throws and for poor early season form, though it is hard enough coming to another Club/Country only to find the WHOLE back 4 out of sorts initially.

He also suffers from the simple fact he is nowhere near the level of Cresswell or Mings and so becomes something of a symbol of how we have failed to improve on last year. Not all his faulty is it !?

Decent player, getting better. But would one of our youngsters been any better/worse given the same level of trust and time. We can't know and never will the way things are going.

Hoppy, how about Bart improved player, alhough agree Jonas has improved.Could understand why Jonny Parr went,as when fit should have been given game ahead of Knudsen, although not Jonas' fault.

Re above he says"like game against Huddersfield, when we managed to score and hang on for 3 points"shows mindset Mgr has instilled in his players.Wouldn't,have got this with BR GB or BFJ certainly.
