Owner Evans 146th Richest
Friday, 22nd Apr 2016 13:59

Town owner Marcus Evans is the 146th richest person in the UK with his wealth having remained static at £765 million, the same level as last year, according to the 2016 Sunday Times Rich List.

The Rich List is based on "identifiable wealth"; land, property, publicly-quoted shares and other assets, but not bank accounts but not bank accounts to which they don’t have access.

Town sources have previously dismissed Rich List estimates of Evans’s wealth, which was claimed to have risen by £65 million between 2014 and 2015, as highly speculative.

If he used his money to buy highly rated young players , he would at least stand more chance of recouping a profit than forever paying the wages of freebies and loans.

I find it strange that a guy with all that money is trying to run a football club as a business and not as a hobby. There wouldve been more shrewd investments out there.
Maybe Marcus should learn to live a bit n enjoy it as a hobby, loads of people blow their life savings on hobbies ;-)

If I had £765m, I'd buy the budgies up the road and then appoint McCarthy as manager there before selling them again.

£765M?...well you'd think he could've spared a couple of million last summer/January for a decent promotion push?

Wouldn't be surprised if he pulls out of ITFC sometime soon as he doesn't seem as interested as he was when he took over.

Initially throwing millions at the team didn't work & being stringent isn't working either..someone needs to advise Marcus that the fans are not happy or is he that blind to the problems on the pitch?
How much does he understand "the beautiful game" and our need for exciting, attacking football?

We need a manager that fits NOT just some "Tom,Dick or Harry" who's got a club promoted before - it's not as simple as that Marcus..he shouldn't have been so keen to get rid of Magilton.

THE JOY THEN of always having constant freebies and loans brought into the club.

This chairman doesn't and hasn't, to my mind, ever seen the bigger picture for this club. This club has become stagnant, with regrettably lacking ambition.

This club, with the league we're in, should be being stood with the Middlesborough's, etc. There's no reason why not.

Mr.Evans, please read some of these comments and you just might understand how the supporters feel about you and the club at this time.

ok, he may have a 'wealth' of 765 million, but how much of that is tied up in property/businesses and such like. would part/all of our debt to Marcus Evans group form part of the 765 million wealth?

Im not saying he is shopping at food banks or anything, but its pretty short sighted to think that he can just dip his hand into his pocket and just pull out 10 million for us to spend.

The biggest thing he could for us as a club if he can is write the debt off, or not taking his 5 million per year interest.

I never understand why people say he has lost interest. He is there at pretty much every home game and I saw a picture of him at the Sheffield Wednesday game so he's obviously still going to at least some of the away games. I doubt he particularly enjoys the 'football' on show either.

Rightly or wrongly, he's trying to manage the club so that it stays within the financial fair play rules. In any other circumstances that would probably be seen as a positive thing, but in the context of wanting our club to progress it clearly doesn't meet our (the fans') expectations. Obviously he's not helped by the implementation of the financial fair play rules being almost non-existent. It's a difficult one to answer and ultimately it's his money not ours, so only he can decide.

Do people not realise that under the FFP rules an owner can't just give their clubs £millions. The reason Keane and Jewell spent was because under his initial deal there was a restructuring of shares which allowed a £10m investment.
Leicester are currently being investigated for breaking FFP rules due to their sponsorship deal that their owner also owns.
Do some research.

Mr.Evans,I don't think wer'e asking for the world.Just a little more than 30k would be nice without breaking the FFP rules, otherwise we will never progress and the owner WILL NEVER recoup his money and promotion will be a long way off. What do you think.?

Evans doesn't have the money just sitting in the bank it's what his companies are worth. Also if he made money available the best available players in the summer will be attracted to clubs far bigger than us and the players will be attracted to the bigger city clubs and all that goes with it rather than Ipswich which, let's face it, is a s..thole!

pumppedlar2 added 15:51 - Apr 22
I'm not too familiar with the FFP rules, but do they include sponsorship money? If that doesn't count in the equation, perhaps we could ask our main sponsor for an extra few £M a season. Now I wonder who that is and if they can afford it.

The club cannot exist on the gate receipts and from the commercial side of the business. Therefore, ME has to put £6-£7 million into the club each year in order for us to stay where we are.

Not only that but he is also paying for the new 3G/4G all weather pitch at Playford Road. What'll that cost 750 K to a 1 M? And that is just to maintain the Cat 2 status.

So to say that he doesn't invest in the club is a complete nonsense.

Monkey_Blue added 15:53 - Apr 22
It doesn't matter how much money he has. He puts the maximum permitted in every season according to the FFP rules.... If we had come down from the prem it's not just the parachute money, the extra income also allows owners to put more in.

Evens is a good owner and unless turnover increases he is limited to what he can put into spending. How thick are some of you? Don't answer, it was a rhetorical question... The answer is obvious

Pity he knows bu@@er all about football.....you know, that game of entertainment, if he did then he'd at least release a bit of funding towards a bit of quality, we're not talking £10m...for £3-4m we could add two or three quality players that I think could really make a difference....

pumppedlar2 added 16:02 - Apr 22
Thanks, Monkey Blue. Guess my suggestion is invalid, then. Still, I'll be contributing another £800 plus for a couple of season tickets and hope for an improvement in entertainment value next season.

I would imagine he has amassed such a tidy sum from being a shewed business man and I take my hat off to him. It would seem taking on the Town is not one of his best decisions, frankly anyone that takes a football club is pretty much doomed from the off as its a thankless task. Not really sure where Ipswich go from here to be honest.

Kikapu added 16:24 - Apr 22
If Evans read some of the comments on this site (not this page - been some accurate and sensible comments here) I reckon he'd be off looking for some other activity to blow 5 - 6 million a year on. He must be quite thick skinned with a view and a plan for the long term. Thank goodness.

Just think, he would be worth even more if he didn't own ITFC!
