Kennedy at Colchester
Saturday, 23rd Apr 2016 19:03

Town’s U21s coach Mark Kennedy was spotted at the Weston Homes Community Stadium as Colchester United's relegation to League Two was confirmed by a 3-0 defeat to Burton Albion this afternoon.

While Kennedy may just have been having a general look at the two sides rather than having a specific target, in January the Blues were linked with U’s midfielder George Moncur, who came on as a half-time sub with the U’s down to 10 men and losing 1-0.

Doesn't matter who we get the ball will still be in the air most of the time. Maybe he's looking at the managers job where he can coach pass and move and know it will happen in the first team.

Doesn't matter who we get. We could get Messi (yes everyone come and say your pathetic we can't get messi) and if he doesn't hoof it forwards he won't be in Micks team because he is a one dimensional dinasour!

Mick Out!

Are division two players the way forward?

Can pick up some lower league gems Jas!!! Moncur would be decent in my opinion. Scored a lot of goals from midfield. Dack from Gillingham and Roofe from Oxford are all decent players. Young hungry players looking to step up.

Just like to say there is no one in the Colchester team who is good enough for our reserves let alone our first team. They've been rubbish for 2 years and deservedly got relegated. There only good player recently was Sears and we already pinched him. Maybe Burton have got someone decent and Kennedy was running his eye over him or maybe he was bored watching Ipswich and wanted to see some goals for a change .

Perhaps we swap just one of their players for ExSkuse, Hyam, Douglas and Varney. And even if we did (I'd be jumping for joy!) I assure you they wouldn't be able to get them promoted from league 2, not the side-pass brigade. When you stack a team full of side-passing clones expect to be bored, very bored in fact!!! Mick the dinosaur has actually evolved, he has changed his style from long ball, to side ball!!!

And I couldn't care if Hyam was born in the North Stand, he's crap so get him out!!! I don't care where they are born, I just want to know, can they pass, can they play, have they got any pace, have they got any flair, can they get bums on seats? Not have they got a good engine, can they get stuck in, do they shirk a challenge? Are they honest? Are they mediocre? I expect many of you have seen the crossbar challenge on Soccer AM. Well imagine if they did the side pass challenge, we'd own that with Hyam, Douglas and ExSkuse passing it side to side like some line dancing convention! If in doubt, SIDE PASS it out!!!

get some players in from holland who know how to pass it a bit, they don't pay mega wages in their league. surely if you scouted the dutch league they'd be some better options than hyam, exSkuse and douglas. maybe evans won't pay kennedy's travel expenses to catch the ferry from harwich! so we've got to make do with scouting players from within a 100 mide radius! oh well, if there's nobody up to the job at colchester maybe send mark down to lowestoft town! if we're really lucky we might be able to do a player swap with one of their midfielders for hyam!

@jas0999. Have you heard of a guy called Jamie Vardy? You may want to watch Euro 2016 this summer, you'll probably see him play. Look where he was just a handful of years ago.

I was at the match with Count Arthur sitting with the Burton lot.
Colchester were down to ten men for most of the match so it was one way traffic for a majority of the match and Moncur came on second half but didn't really have a chance to shine under the circumstances.
Burton looked a decent enough side but think they will struggle in the championship. More Doncaster than Brentford. Akins looks a player though and certainly wouldn't relish seeing our defence up against him. Some guy called Hamza Choudhury was the pick of their midfield.

As ParkinsHair said, we were at this game, sitting with the Burton Fans as my son was born there and we thought we go and see a game 30 minutes away rather than 4 1/2 hours.

But to be fair both teams looked OK, Lucas Akins who got Burton's hat trick looks decent enough and I'd rather we tried to sign him than some defensive midfielder from Wolves in his twilight years next season.

But apart from the passing football, what did impress me was the infrastructure around the ground and the pre-match music consisted of some decent tunes rather than the tired old cr*p we've had at Portman Road for the last two seasons.

Looking forward to playing Burton next season and it's a shame Colchester got relegated after such a spirited performance.
