Yorwerth's Contract Terminated
Friday, 20th May 2016 18:42

Central defender Josh Yorwerth has left the Blues after his contract was terminated by mutual consent.

The 21-year-old joined Town on a two-year deal following a trial after leaving Cardiff last summer and spent most of 2015/16 on loan with League Two Crawley.

The Wales U21 international made three Capital One Cup starts for the Blues and scored on his debut against Stevenage last August.

Manager Mick McCarthy had previously announced that Yorwerth and fellow centre-half Piotr Malarczyk had been made available for transfer.

Agree with 12th Man, I thought he looked sound against Man Utd and certainly no worse than the defenders we stuck with for the season although I do appreciate that I only saw him play once.

Agree with 12th man and cakeman.. Looked OK against Rooney.. My frustration is over the past few years this must be about the 10th player we have paid up and terminated a contract! Coke and toure for me offer nothing and should be the last and let's breed youth and a couple of firm signings in the summer to have another go next year!

Good luck for your future Josh
Seemed fairly good, but I'm confident we've got better options
What I don't quite understand is why terminate his contract so early into the close season... I would have thought hang onto him for longer - someone probably would have paid a small fee surely?
Got to trust Mick s decision though...
Really hoping we get Payne. He looks like he would be just that for out opposition - a Payne!

No surprise really. Signed as a cheap freebie last summer with no first team experience. Clearly needed better. However, that's not his fault and I wish him well for the future but that sadly isn't at championship level.

Hopefully Coke will be the next to go.

Yorwerth should find it easy to find another league club. It's easy in that respect to agree a mutual termination as the player is certain of new employment, albeit in a slightly lower league.

A mutual termination with Coke would prove much more difficult. It was clear Dagenham were interested prior to us signing him but his wage would prove too high for them now due to their relegation. We need to stick with Coke as he is our player and will be for the foreseeable future. Mick must have seen something in him that we have yet to see.

Yorwerth did have a really good game against Rooney. He was pretty much trying to block him off for the full 90 minutes as our midfield that day was woeful. Good luck to his future.

I suspect this is part of the discussions with Evans to do with transfers. MM has had to make some tough decisions to get approval for the players he wants. This and Clarke are a bit of a surprise to me but I suspect there will be some surprises coming in. Re. Coke, if MM wanted to get rid, he could. But I agree paying players off to leave seems to have happened far too often in the last 5 years. Damien Delaney most painfully.

What I want to know is how many more players are Town going to sign never play in the the first team then cancel their contract. Seems a strange way to operate. For me it calls in to question the ability of the scouting and coaching at the club.
I never saw Yowerth play but he apparently did okay vs Man United and looked after Rooney so I wish him well and hope he gets sorted sooner rather than later.

Do we know if mutual consent means that the club have paid Yorwerth off or he's just released on a free? I understand taking a chance on players if there's little financial risk but this seems a bit counterproductive if you end up paying off the remainder of their contract once you decide they're not good enough.
Thought Yorwerth might have been kept as a back up due to us signing Webster with Berra being made available for transfer. Will be interesting to see what MM has planned in terms of the starting CB partnership.

This is becoming all too familiar now with Mick's "worth a punt" signings.
Sorry but if Yorwerth is on £500 a week he is still earning a damn sight more than me. We can't keep having players youngsters or otherwise eating into the wage bill who aren't anywhere near the first team nor likely to be. To rub salt into the wound we've had settle his contract. I shudder to think how much Stewart is on and he still has a year to go.
Can you blame Evans for hiding his cheque book?

Some of the comments on here are ridiculous. Whilst I realise mick's success rate isn't great, to suggest that we should keep someone who he has seen regularly in training, on the basis that we know better, is madness!

Good luck josh!!
All the Coke lovers has he ever had a fair chance in the team like Douglas has?!
Give the man a chance he has 2 years left to prove himself.
Mick has seen something in him & the weds fans loved him when he was there!!
If he does nothing again this season I'll take it all back but at least give the man a chance..

The Wed fans I know, were laughing their heads off when we signed him.

My mates a Rovers fan and vs Crawley when the Gas beat them 3-0 apparently Yowerth was Sunday league at best.

I too was quite impressed with him at Man United however we just sat and United didn't probe. Was quite easy to defend looking back.

Sheff Weds got rid of average dead wood players spent some money and are closer to promotion than MM has achieved in one season . MM and Town sign deadwood players released .
Unless we are going to work on players to make them better it seems pointless signing these youngsters

Another of McCarthy's conveyer belt signings which get rejected for reasons unknown
The player hasn't really been given the opportunity to perform in the first team against league opposition, so how does he make that judgement?
Smith / Chambers / Berra, aren't actually great, they're just ok, and nothing more than that.
Will any of those 4 named be any better next season or beyond?
That is extremely doubtful and just won't happen.
I personally would like that trio broken up and put into the scrap bin and start afresh.

Maybe we could have got 50k max for him but we'do have to pay his wages all summer so for the pennies we'do profit there's no point keeping him around I guess.

He was worth a punt last year and he seemed okay but maybe not what we're looking for, good luck to him!!

A pity that McCarthy's contract wasn't terminated by mutual consent.

Until I see evidence to suggest otherwise, I fear our transfer strategy this season is the same as always.
Freebies and journeymen in, Freebies and journeymen out.
We have yet to even confirm the signing of Webster which is odd and Smith has not signed up yet.

Yorwerth's sh1t. Shed no tears.

We don't half fall in love with myths and shadows at this club.

The revolving door is spinning once more.

Like others have never known anything like it with transfers since McCarthy came.
.That's in over 50 years of supporting the blues.

What baffles me is a lot of the players that go have hardly kicked a ball in a first team game, and there are so many of them too.

If the club has had to pay out money to get rid of Yorwerth, surely it would be better to keep him on the books during most of close season,so that a club could have him on a free.Unless of course this would cost more;but we are only talking about three months wages.

Next priority would seem to be a revamp of the scouting system?

The way McCarthy picks up these youngsters and then throws them away without a proper chance, is nothing short of a disgrace. I'd be surprised if any more of them come here.

MM has signed too many players & never played them, agreed to terminate their contracts & then gone & got another. This costs money as usually the player will receive a lump sum, part o the contract remaining. There should bee a clearout over the summer, Berra had a poor season & I think should go, Chambers who has never impressed me except as a good leader, Coke, Gerkin, Toure, even Murphy. Pity we didn't cash in on him last summer. MM's dealings are less than brilliant. We should sweep it clean with a new brush, ie. a new coach
