Six Arrests at Derby
Sunday, 12th Apr 2026 10:21

Six people were arrested at yesterday’s East Anglian derby at Carrow Road, which the Blues won 2-0, Norfolk Constabulary has announced.

The arrests were for offences including criminal damage, common assault, being drunk and disorderly and affray.

The operation at the game saw a significant number of police officers deployed along with other specialist police resources, among them drones and police horses.

With no trains running from Ipswich, Town supporters were subject to travel restrictions with many feeling they were heavy handed and over the top, while they were also kept in the stadium for a long spell after the final whistle.

Matchday policing commander Chief Supt Wes Hornigold thanked both clubs, their fans and other parties involved in the operation.

“My thanks go to everybody at Carrow Road this afternoon. We know this match holds great significance for both sets of supporters,” he said.

“Our primary responsibility is to keep people safe; we’ve been able to do that as well as balance the needs of supporters.

“I know some fans were asked to wait at Thorpe Road, Lower Clarence Road and Carrow Bridge for a short while, so my thanks to them for waiting with good grace, and to all supporters for their patience and understanding.

"My thanks also go to our emergency service colleagues, both football clubs and partner agencies for being so willing to work with us – I really appreciate their support.”

Ipswich fans or Norwich?
Poor reporting.
6 fans on a Derby how many per home game average?
6 arrests never justifies the whole expense, planning and denying people freedom of movement.

Yesterday Yarmouth bus station was awash with supporters of both colours catching busses together. While there was some banter it was good natured and humourous. Never a copper seen, never a copper needed.

Heavy handed and over the top? Perhaps when we hit 0 arrests it'll relax a little!

It is about time that Suffolk and Norfolk Constabulary rethink their policies regarding the local derby. It is over thought and the resources they spend on the day is wasted. The message about supporters mixing on Gt Yarmouth station proves my point. We are all East Anglians,so next time let’s have a bit of common sense. The Police know the hooligans,so sort them out ,ban them from going near the match.

Yes it is a fierce rivalry, but also felt both sets of fans are just proper footballing fans who go to games to watch their teams. Hence, why they can have good banter and get along

I have mixed views on this. I thought it was a lot of police, too restrictive and dampened the experience. However I (whilst wearing my Ipswich top) had the misfortune of bumping into 6 Norwich fans on my ski holiday. I'm 53 they were early 20's and wanted to start a fight. They were bragging about having a 12 & 6 month suspended sentences and 3 year stadium bans as a results of attacking Ipswich fans last year. They were proud, admitted they don't really support Norwich but go for the aggro. They said after about half hour you are alright really aren't you? That's what the police are trying to avoid. Sadly we have the same element when at home in that game. Obviously with ticket restrictions the away fans are generally ok.

bramidan. the police presence helps make the day more enjoyable for all. friendly banter is the majority but you always get the dickheads on both sides

Hopefully half of that is the three losers who tried to start something round the corner of the station after we'd rolled them over. Kindly led one to the closest police officer who finally emerged and asked him if he'd like to repeat the threats he'd made. Went very quiet just like the rest of the home crowd and reminded him of the scoreline. Cherry on top of a sublime day. Uppa Swich!
