Town Confirm Williams Back for Fourth Spell
Wednesday, 31st Aug 2016 15:47

Town have confirmed that Crystal Palace's Jonny Williams has rejoined the club on a season-long loan, his fourth stint at Portman Road.

Williams, 22, initially joined the Blues in February 2014 and became a big fans' favourite during the remainder of that season.

The Pembury-born midfielder, who is contracted to Palace until 2018, returned in the following September but had his spell curtailed by a thigh injury suffered in the Watford game in the November.

He came back to Town for a third spell late in that season but made only two sub appearances before suffering a recurrence of the problem in an U21s game.

Williams, who played for Wales at the European Championships in the summer, spent time on loan at Nottingham Forest and with the MK Dons last season.

He suffered an ankle injury in pre-season but is expected to be fit to play in October.

Good to see Williams back. Shame it's another loan deal though. Also thought he was injured.

Dare I say im excited to be an Ipswich fan, now a quality out and out centre forward and it's looking really promising not just from a team perspective but a squad perspective, well done McCarthy for showing some real ambition this year, young, quality players, makes you wonder where we would be if this investment was made when we finished 5th and 7th, come on you blues, this year is our year, let's hope Williams played like he did at the euros, welcome back Johnny, play your part and stay fit!

Bloody Hell
a Midfiled of Walliams, Ward, Bishop, Lawrence - not one over 5' 8.
How are we going to moan about McCarthy now?

Surely we will sign him at the end of the year after 4 loans spells, a la Murphy....

A super signing when he first came here and although still a decent player not sure he will hit previous heights when with us. A decent squad player in my opinion but time will tell and just hope he stays injury free.

Williams is injured until end of October - however, once fit

A) Gives us some more quality in the middle
B) Gives us some Depth

Depth in Wingers
Depth in Midfielders
Reasonable Centre back Depth

Just a Striker please??????????

We've got plenty to supply the ammo now - let's hope we bring in someone decent to actually put the ball in the net...preferably not on loan.

Brilliant! We really needed a creative CM so really happy with this. Striker please and then a very good transfer window in my view!

Great loan signing and for a season! Wouldnt be surprised to see him sign permanently if he does well, he clearly loves it here and I bet he is a real character in the dressing room.

Just need a striker now and think everyone will be happy!

Squad looking better than a few days ago! Though so are lots of other Championship sides! Even so - this is good news as we too often look short of someone who can beat a man and create something (fitness permitting)

Fantastic news.

I assume when McGoldrick / Williams is fit Mick wouldn't put both of them, Bishop AND Ward in the same team, would he!?

Creativity seems nicely sorted to me. Well done all!

For the Mick moaners, he's assembled a decent squad this time around. The brand of football with the type of players we now have HAS to be better. This could be a good season.

Quality player at this level, but like stated he's injured, and 'should be' back for October. A great deal can happen between now and then in his rehab so no guarantees when we get a fit Williams, meanwhile he misses at least, Reading, Derby, Villa, Leeds and Brighton... HUGE games! We must get a fit replacement for Murphy by 2300, but I have my doubts with our track record.

Are you kidding me....injured and expected to be fit within a month...FFS!
Undoubted quality but only ITFC can do this sort of deal taking players on loan who can't immediately play!

Not sure why we are signing someone who is injured and can't play for 6-7 weeks, not sure how that makes us better, very good player but never fit, another jack wilshere
