Pitman Still Keen to Play for Jersey
Monday, 7th Nov 2016 13:35

Blues striker Brett Pitman has reiterated his interest in playing international football for Jersey if his home island is admitted to UEFA.

Last month Jersey announced their intention to launch an appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport after UEFA's executive committee wouldn’t allow its congress to debate the island’s approach for membership.

A UEFA rule introduced after Gibraltar’s successful application makes Jersey's attempt more difficult as the island isn’t a sovereign nation. A meeting scheduled for this week between the Jersey FA and UEFA has been postponed.

However, if the Channel Islanders are eventually successful Pitman remains keen to represent them, as he previously stated in February .

"If Jersey can do it, it's something I would want to do," the 28-year-old told the BBC. "I'd want to come and play for Jersey for sure, if that was possible."

He added: "If they're going to do it, it's something they've got to do properly, you can't do it half-heartedly.

"You've got to do it as properly and professionally as possible if you're going to be competing against international teams because I don't think there are any weak teams at that level.”

Pitman, who played for Jersey side St Paul’s as a youngster before joining Bournemouth’s youth set-up, is currently out with the ankle injury he sustained at Leeds.

He certainly would be a shoo in for Jersey;but not sure teams like them and Gibraltar add much to the game.

Would Jersey give San Marino a game, I wonder?

Yes more UEFA/FIFA nonsense, admitting ludicrously small statelets who will then vote for the incumbents. Sark & the Isles of Scilly next, I suppose.
