Town Closing in on First Signing
Saturday, 14th Jan 2017 12:57

TWTD understands Town are closing in on the signing of Forest Green Rovers striker Kieffer Moore, who has recently been on loan at Torquay United.

The 24-year-old is at Portman Road today to undergo a medical and the signing, which would be the Blues’ first of the transfer window, could be confirmed this afternoon.

Torquay-born Moore, who is 6ft 5in tall, started his career with Truro City before moving on to Dorchester Town, Yeovil Town - with whom he played in the Championship in 2013/14 - and then Norwegian side Viking before signing for Vanarama National League side Forest Green in January last year. He joined another National League club Torquay on loan in November.

With Forest Green he has scored seven goals in 17 starts and 17 sub appearances, while he netted five times in four games for Torquay including a hat-trick.

The striker is understood to be a player viewed as a prospect with the potential to play in the Championship, while the Blues have three bids in for higher profile players with Rotherham's Danny Ward - who is not in the Millers squad today - remaining a target.

Town boss Mick McCarthy has previously had success when delving into the non-league market, signing Michael Kightly from Grays when at Wolves and Tyrone Mings from Chippenham since taking over at Portman Road.

If you have kicked a ball, at any point in your life time, you have a chance of being signed by Ipswich, especially if you are cheap!!

@ITFCGloryDays on the plus side, here's some non League gems who made it:
Simon Milton
Johnny Walters
Tyrone Mings
Gareth McCauley (via Leicester)
And of course the one who got away, Kevin Phillips

Know nothing about him. Worth a punt though from non-league with a small fee and low wages I expect.

I would be pleased with this signing having been arguing on here we should sign young players from the lower leagues. At 24 it is hard to argue he is "one for the future" and his goalscoring record isn't great, but at 6ft5in tall hopefully he is good in the air and can hold the ball up and win some headers to play in our other strikers and midfielders. We desperately need a different option up front now.

Some fans (?) really need to lighten up . Let´s give the guy a chance! If he is the only signing of the transfer window, then yes, I would be underwhelmed.

130 appearances in his total career with 39 goals scored so one in three and a third games aproximately.

Sorry but ch... sake the club has never broad cast through media who they signing? Yet when it gets released we are signing someone most people come out with negative comments?? We aren't in a position to buy the greatest strikers as the chairman won't release the money. Our manager is TOSH but let's see who else we sign before all these negative comments? Jesus I hate Mick as our manager. Problem is he's well known for buying lower league players!!! Let's all calm down and give the lad a chance!!

Good luck fella .

I for one even though I'm not over enamoured with recent goings on at town am not going to slag this guy off until he's done something to warrant it !

Good luck mate

Agree - need to judge at the end of window.
Initial thoughts about buying players "for the future" does worry me re. our own youngsters (sure Ben Morris must be delighted with this signing !) but to be fair probably of an age between current options & young Academy prospects.
Just don't want our youngsters continually blocked from the team or getting miffed off and leaving.
But as I say I will be reserving full comment until the end of the window.
Best of luck if he does join & crossed fingers we have unearthed a non/lower league gem ..... about time we had some luck like that !!!

I think the major factor is that Moore is "6ft 5in tall" is ideal for MMs up and over style of play. Say farewell to playing the ball on the deck and remaining in the Championship and say hello to Division One.

Forget Moore having to be skilful. All he has to do is get his head on Knudsen's blindly hit long balls over the top to knock it down to the opposition defence.

So this is where Ipswich are...no better than a Burton Albion, Rotherham or Lincoln City...oh how we have fallen.

Kieffer, welcome to the madhouse. I appreciate you are one for the future but knowing our club, by the time the window closes, you may well find you are the marquee signing. Good luck.

May i politely remind people it's a team game and the quality of service may have meant the opportunities to score may have contributed to his goal ratio? Work with TC,improve the service, you never know and worth a punt.Welcome to ITFC and let's hope it works out well says i.

We all know we need a targetman for Mick's style of play and this guy certainly is one.
For all those writing him off because he's playing non league at 24 - Jamie Vardy was 25 when Leicester signed him from Fleetwood so get over yourselves and hope Mick's found another Mings!!

I don't think people are intentionally trying to knock the lad before he has even started but I've just logged on to check team and saw headline that we are about to sign someone. Then when I've seen who it is I feel really deflated because I've never heard of him and looking at the fact they've loaned him out doesn't fill me with confidence that he will be good. Also for some stupid reason I honestly thought that ME was going to stump up a decent amount of cash give us something to cheer about and sign someone good. GOOD LUCK to the lad if he does come but I'm sad/deflated/pi##ed off that this is the level we are at
