Town Among Clubs Linked With Bristol Rovers Striker
Wednesday, 25th Jan 2017 15:23

Town, Brentford and Wolves are all reported to have been keeping tabs on Bristol Rovers striker Matty Taylor.

According to the Bristol Post, all three Championship clubs have sent representatives to watch the 26-year-old on a number of occasions in recent weeks.

No bids have been received but the League One club are said to be bracing themselves for interest ahead of Tuesday’s 11pm deadline.

According to previous unconfirmed reports, the new two-year contract Taylor signed with Rovers in the summer includes a £300,000 release clause and that Sheffield Wednesday, Norwich City and Queens Park Rangers are also among the interested clubs.

Taylor started his career with Oxford United but made only a handful of sub appearances before dropping into non-league, where he scored 80 goals in two seasons for Southern League South and West Division side North Leigh and won himself a move to Forest Green Rovers.

After a spell on loan at Chester, the 5ft 9in tall frontman moved to the Memorial Stadium on a free transfer in the summer of 2014.

Since then he has scored 67 goals in 111 starts and 20 sub appearances for Rovers during their climb from the Vanarama National League to League One in successive seasons.

Capped twice for the England C team, Taylor scored 28 times last season and has already amassed 19 goals during 2016/17.

Personally I'd love this and rate him highly. A step up and maybe not a target man, but there are other ways of playing and this lad is a goal scorer and hungry. My fear is we may not be top of the queue, sad but true

Good goalscoring record so would be pleased if we signed him. Then again so did Sam Parkin until he came here! As long as he fits in to our style of play then I would love to see him join

Wages will be the clincher here and we are not in the same league as some of the other clubs mentioned!

A Freddie Sears type. He'll score goals for us, then MM will stick him out wide and get him to chase anything that moves and ruin him as a striker

I'd be absolutely amazed if his release clause was only £300k, considering he only signed a new contract in the summer and his goal scoring record in the prior 2 seasons.

Blooming sign a couple of good ones please, rather than links left right and centre

If you want a striker like this Mick (nothing against Matty Taylor) ... why not play Freddie Sears there?

Just asking a simple question !

Is there a striker that Sheffield Wednesday don't want to buy?

I just find this crazy. We were told the club would invest in a new striker in January window? Yet the club has had since August to get this sorted yet in less than a week to go in transfer window STILL NOTHING? Is it me or is that not bad business I'd be sacked if it took me 5 months to fill a position at wrk??

Will everyone cop on the club is damaged beyond repair as long as this man is in charge end of.Who in their right mind would want to play for us under the current tactics, hoofball, any striker will struggle playing under this man.By the way the usual transfer links just to keep us supporters a bit happy nobody should be fooled by this we are filling up the squad with dredgings from elsewhere and we will be told that they were not up to the challenge and dopped for the usual crew.
