Lawrence Misses Out on Award
Friday, 10th Feb 2017 09:16

Town top scorer Tom Lawrence missed out on the Championship Player of the Month award for January with former Blues loanee Chris Wood of Leeds carrying off the gong.

Lawrence was nominated alongside Wood, another ex-Town loan player, Brighton keeper David Stockdale, and Cardiff midfielder Joe Ralls.

Wood and Lawrence both netted six goals during January but two of Lawrence’s were in the FA Cup rather than the Championship. Reading boss Jaap Stam was named the Manager of the Month.

Good. If he had won, there would no doubt be a curse, rendering him useless for the remainder of t he season. Also, it would have added about £1,000,000 to his value.

Shame not to get that recognition for Lawrence on a personal level for him, but ultimately, it doesn't really matter. I can see why they've gone for Wood, as when I've seen Leeds playing recently, they seem to have stepped up a gear and Wood has been a big part of that, in a similar way to how Murphy was doing for us a couple of seasons ago.

Utter nonsense..Lawrence has easily been the stand out player in the Championship - for months not just January.

Same panel who put Leeds on Sky every sodding weekend must've voted on this.

Of course, Stockdale was another Ipswich loan player.

Fancy it going to a Leeds player!...Lawrence has been the better player without a doubt.

Woods couldn't buy a goal for us lol but seemed a decent young man! Lawerence has scored some BEAUTS!! Could watch the reel 5 times a day for the week. The chances of him staying with us seem remote as I would imagine he has some larger interests, but he is blossoming in Ipswich so you never know!

The panel probably only took into account the number of league goals rather than Lawrence's all-round quality and the fact he has been doing it with a struggling team.

Tom, you obviously need to score some 1 yard tap-ins to win this.

I had hoped that we would have signed Wood but perhaps he did not show quite enough when here......
