McGoldrick Out of Irish Squad
Monday, 20th Mar 2017 08:13

Town striker David McGoldrick has been ruled out of the Republic of Ireland squad for their World Cup qualifier with Wales and their friendly against Iceland during the international break due to a knee injury.

McGoldrick, who has won five full caps, so far without scoring, was subbed 12 minutes from the end of Saturday’s 3-1 defeat at Cardiff City, although not appearing to be suffering a serious knock.

The 29-year-old was named in the provisional 39-man squad but the FAI has confirmed that he is not in the final party of 28, the injury having forced him out.

Ireland take on the Welsh, whose squad includes Blues loanee Tom Lawrence, who himself could miss out as he is to undergo a scan on a groin problem, on Friday 24th March and then the Icelanders four days later, both at the Aviva Stadium.

Town have a number of other players away on international duty in addition to Lawrence.

Christophe Berra is with Scotland, Kevin Bru with Mauritius, Tommy Smith with New Zealand, although Blues youngster Monty Patterson has been ruled out of the All Whites squad, and Andre Dozzell and Tristan Nydam with the England U18s.

Meanwhile, Town's U23s are in action against Crewe Alexandra at Portman Road this evening (KO 7pm).

Blues boss Mick McCarthy has confirmed that defender Steven Taylor will play as he works his way back after his hamstring injury, while Jonny Williams may also be involved having returned to training after suffering a minor hamstring problem of his own while playing for Gerard Nash's side a fortnight ago.

Town's U18s were beaten 2-0 by Leeds at Playford Road on Saturday morning.

....here we go again. Knee injury this time. Suspect he won't play n any of the last 8 games now. Probably had enough of this shyte himself and is looking for a way out of the remains high pressure games and ultimately like many of the bother seniors in the team, a way out of the Club over the summer.

Cheerio Didsy. Last man through the beautifully painted turnstiles, please put the lights out.

Without doubt one of the most overrated players to grace a Town shirt in recent years. If the treatment table has a memory foam surface then It knows every inch of McGoldrick from hooter to tooter.

Didz has to come to terms with not being able to last a season, time to move on.

The future at town doesn't look good, too many average Championship players with youngsters not being allowed to learn their trade. Major investment in playing staff needed and we all know that isn't going to happen. Relegation fodder next year as well.

Sorry hear this. Feel for Mcg, his body let's him down too often, he must be so frustrated. A fully fit McG can turn a game, and we may need that over the next few games. Speedy recovery sir!

I'm sure there are defenders with better goals & assists ratio. Unproductive. What happened to the guy from Coventry who actually scored goals?

Tactical. MM knows we couldn't lose Dids for the run in due to injury so a minor knee niggle crops up.

Excuse me for being thick, but where in the above does it say that he is out for the rest of the season?

Dammit not AGAIN Didzy! Why oh why is it that you appear more fragile than poorly plagiarized Ming porcelain....

.... do you not eat them vitamin-rich vegetables lad??? :-) .... Tsk Tsk .... if so that's a NO-NO Didzy!!! Cause haven't someone at the club say like the amazingly otherwise INEFFECTIVE Dino-sidekick TC told you 'proper lads' that it's important not only just to get the water-soluble B + C vitamins but it simply being a must to stock-up on the fat-soluble ones too, ESPECIALLY Vitamin D (essential for your muscle health etc.) most importantly during the dark winter months, and ohhh don't you dare forget to get enough minerals either lad! particularly calcium (for your bones etc.) all year round, dammit! :-)

Clamorblue... I think you're giving Mccarthy a bit too much credit there mate. 'Mick' and 'tactical' aren't two words that should share the same positive sentence in any way, shape or form.

........ technically gifted player - but all too fragile.

Will always miss more games than he plays in - an expensive 'part time' luxury, if ever there was one.
