McCarthy Has No Intention of Walking Away and Plans to Build Again at Town Wednesday, 12th Apr 2017 16:13 Town boss Mick McCarthy says he has no intention of walking away from his Blues contract and is looking ahead to next season when he plans to rebuild, believing there need to be changes in the squad. The 58-year-old, who has a year left on his deal, with Town having an option for a further two seasons, also reacted angrily to terrace chants claiming he’s “ruined” the club during Saturday’s 3-1 defeat at Fulham.
Asked whether he he ever considered walking away from Portman Road during this season’s struggles having spent the larger part of it under fire from fans, he said: “No, because I enjoy my job and as for some of the stuff about ‘Mick McCarthy, you’ve ruined our club’, what the biggest load of cobblers that I’ve ever heard in my life that is.
“I saved the club from relegation and I’ve had three top 10 finishes and the one time I have a bad season then people have turned their backs on me, which is a bit of a surprise and it’s disappointing.
“But hey ho, I’m not walking away from here, I have a year’s contract to run and unless something else is done then no, I’m not walking away from it. I’ll be here and I’ll be planning for next season and I’m looking forward to it.
“I’m looking forward to my holiday actually. I’m looking forward to getting enough points to make sure that we stay in this league, I can go away and have a break and I’ll come back full of vim and vigour again.”
In January McCarthy said he would make a decision on his future in the summer, has he already made up his mind?
“I’m not walking away from my contract, not a chance,” he reiterated. “I’m not walking away from a job, which I see it as, and it’s a good job.
“I’ve no intention because I’d like to build it again. I don’t want to walk away, I’m not walking away, no way.
“I’d like to have it again as we had it two years ago, even last season. Saved them from relegation is what I did, then we had three top 10 finishes, and this year it’s been bad.
“I don’t think it’s justified what’s gone on, to be honest with you. My intention is to stay here and build another team, and hopefully it’s as successful as it was when we finished sixth. And if that pisses off a lot of people, so be it.”
Put to him that he has said he wouldn’t be happy if he turned up on the opening day of 2017/18 and season ticket sales were down to 10,000 - as it seems likely they will be - and that was down to him he wouldn’t be happy, he added: “Marcus might not be happy with that either. That might be the case, but I seem to remember there were 20-odd thousand in here most weeks when we finished sixth and guess who that was down to.
“My objective is to get it back to that. And you know what, if it’s only on a one-year contract, so be it, it’s a one-year contract. Not a chance would I be drive out of anywhere. No way.”
Regarding the ongoing criticism from fans and in the media, he said: “I don’t read the media, that’s for sure, any of it. I don’t listen to the radio station, I certainly not locally. I talk to them but don’t listen to them. You might think that that’s nonsense but I don’t.
“Unless I put ear plugs in I can’t do anything about the crowd on a Saturday or a Monday or whenever we’re playing.
“I guess I have to be a bit brass-necked about that and just understand but, as I just said, apart from ‘ruining the club’, that’s the biggest load of nonsense I’ve ever heard in my whole life.
“It’s been tough this year, it has. We’ve not been good. And it’s sad that a lot of people have turned on me and turned on the players but they’re going to have stick me out for another five games anyway.”
He continued: “If Arsene Wenger can get stick, Alex Ferguson got stick at one stage, he was getting vilified by his own punters and Sir Bobby could and everybody else, it’s part of the gig.
“You [the media] keep asking me about it and I talk about it but I’m not whinging about it or talking about it every day. I come in and I do my job.”
He says not all fans have been on his back this season: “I’ve had some nice comments, nice letters and nice support from people. And, of course, the ones who come [and] were at it from very early on in the game on Saturday, I can’t do anything about that. As I keep telling you, win games and that stops.
“There’s not a lot [you can do], play well and win games. We’ve not done enough of that this season. But I don’t think it constitutes some of the vitriol which is going about, but hey ho.”
Looking ahead to the summer and next season, he says the playing staff will need refreshing whoever the manager is.
“The squad’s going to have to change,” he admitted. “You said ‘Whoever’s charge’, at this moment in time it’s me that will be in charge.
“If that’s the case, things have to change, of course. It can be that you’re with players too long and eventually maybe they need to change and the manager needs to change.
“If for some unknown reason it’s somebody else, then it will change because they’ll want different players.”
He added: “Players under contract, there’s not a great deal that they can do. They can ask to move, they can make noises towards that, they can stamp their feet and pull their hair out and tell their agent what to do.
“But if they’re under contract there’s not really anything they can do if a club wants to keep them.
“There may well be some that want to move on, there will be some will move on. There will be some I want to move on, and some I don’t want to change. That’s going to be a natural process that in the summer, I think.”
Are there players who are out of contract who he is yet to make a decision on? “They’re all my thoughts and I’ll keep them to myself for now.”
McCarthy feels he and his squad have done well in previous seasons having worked with a budget which is among the lowest in the division. Will he have to ask owner Marcus Evans for more money as he looks to rebuild?
“I’ve performed particularly well, and the players have, with what we’ve got and sometimes you have to deal with it,” he insisted.
“And I’ve never complained about that. My conversations with Marcus will be exactly that, with Marcus.”
The finances of the Championship have changed significantly in the two years since the Blues finished sixth, does McCarthy believe it’s now tougher for Town to hit those heights?
“It is,” he agreed. “I’m glad I didn’t say that because it might seem like an excuse. I’m glad you said it. [But that is the reality], absolutely it is.”
Managers at all the established Championship clubs without parachute payments or owners investing around £20 million a year are working in much the same situation as he has been, aren’t they? “They are and trying to get results and some, with their budgets, are doing well.
“I’d say Cloughy’s doing well [at Burton], Barnsley have done brilliantly, they’ve come up with momentum from League One.
“Huddersfield are doing great. David Wagner’s got some good players, some good loan players, he used the German market, he knew it and he’s done really well with it. Fantastic, as I did in my second season, to be honest.”
So, it can still be done? “I’d say so, but as you said, it’s a lot harder now.”

McCarthy never has a man so mediocre valued himself so highly. It really does take delusion and arrogance to a new level.

Royal Ascot Blue.....I have had exactly the same thoughts. MM attitude appears to be much more angry, belligerent and stubborn. He is , I think, on his way. Questions are 1. Who will be taking over. A manager or coach? 2.Is Evans staying? ....Dutch consortium rumour??

Evans will surely have to wake up one day and realise the damage being inflicted on this club and its supporters. We all know now that Evans wants to spend as little as possible and that includes paying McCarthys contract up. What Evans does not realise yet is the lost support and sadly McCarthy has played a big part in that. The fans will probably continue to turn their back on this club. Will it be a 8000 , 10000 or 12000 attendance figures that nudges Evans into action ?

We the supporters of ITFC are, in business terms, customers of a retail business. What other MD or owner of a business would allow a senior manager to verbally abuse customers, often with foul language, and do nothing about it. Evans can get rid of McCarthy for nothing under Gross Misconduct....so why not do it??????

how about a mass boycott or walkout at the Sheffield Wednesday game and leave Bottom Six Mick a triumphant walk around the empty stadium after finishing 21st and the lowest league position in living memory. don't go or leave at half time or 10min before the end. let dino lap up the adulation for this amazing season.

Let's get it straight McCarthy I never wanted you as manager and I'm not the only one!!! I gave you a chance, yes you saved us and sorted out the shambles of a squad. But your first full season was exactly as I expected, yes we finished high in the league but the style of football was the same then as is now. I never liked his Sunderland teams I never liked his Wolves teams and his Ipswich teams are the same boring! So I for one wish he'd left after he saved us, now it's just going to get worse if he's still here come august this club may actually die. Over the last 4 1/2 years how many fans have turned their backs on their club. How many will never return? I for one will never support him again he won't change and nor will my hatred for him and his style. For those of you willing to give him one more chance remember you're allowed to change you mind. BEWARE: THIS IS A ZZZ 'NOVELLA' ... BUT WELL WORTH YOUR TIME, OF COURSE! :-) Not remotely surprised, as I personally for loooong and with surprisingly ease have been able to see right through the almost weekly orchestrated Public Relations lies, stunts and other shenanigans purported by the current unscrupulous & football indifferent ITFC Regime, and that's also among the broader off-the-field reasons as to why I stay true to my boycotting btw!!! .... But anyway please pay attention to the wonderful (mis)timing of this here very premature appearing (see more on that below) "I'm not going anywhere" fan defying to death-to-us-part like statement by his Royal Rudeness ---- (Hey @cat I saw you "borrowed" that very apt characterization from me somewhere!, but you are warmly welcome to do so matey, with all of my Court Jester like stuff you find to your liking, anytime, and completely without permission :-) lol) --- imho not being the slightest coincidental in any form or shape folks! Cozy bedfellows McCarthy & Evans, along with the whole club & and it's once proud and revered brand too btw, has never been so unpopular and disconnected as they are right now, so what to do???? .... Hmmmmm .... Well first things first as they say, so how about we start off by "selling" them bloodthirsty and begging for groundbreaking changes ITFC fans the story that seemingly exclusively all because of these many "FANTASTIC" things he have accomplished here and with little funds to his availability on top of it! Truly WOW :-) the in-his-dreams soon to be knighted Dino can be 'The Master of his own Destiny' and will thus wait to AFTER the season (or summer) to announce whether he FANCY to stay on .....next we emphatically scr@w many of them gullible fans extra hard in their rear ends by announcing some imho completely unfounded & disrespectful ticket prices for next year .... OOPS! That trick combined with the unequivocally FAN-DETERRING football the Dino more than ever nowadays preaches week & week out didn't went at all that merry well with them annoying fans, so ehmmm giving them falling attendance numbers and the substantial decline in Season Tickets sold, blimey! next we better hold a damage-controlling 'Ticket Promotion' in the wake of vehemently upsetting especially so many season ticket holders & senior ITFC fans with these aforementioned announced prices for next season ... and Voila! thus we allegedly have 25,000 or maybe more pouring into PR on Easter Monday solely to celebrate the memory of the greatest manager and also one of the most genuinely great human beings ever employed at this club in my lifetime ... and which fan in their right frame of mind would even consider to in any way tarnish that honorary 'Sir Bobby Robson Day', for both clubs involved btw, with various anti-MM (or just anti-ME) slogans, songs and what have you on THAT very day, right??? As the uncanny Ernest Stavro Blofeld said to our Casanova James 007: "Well played, Mr. Bond!" But please allow me to take out the ol magnifying glass to compare and dissect this here TWTD article with the full & uncensored (meaning from EADT!) mid January "I'll be The Master of my own Destiny" story and interview between EADT's Stuart Watson (SW) and our soooo unbearably full-of-himself and then some! Mick McCarthy (MM): Here is thus the imho most crucial & interesting parts: SW: So you are looking to the future? MM: "Of course. That's always been the case, but the younger players have not really been ready to play. Dozza (Andre Dozzell) is in now and playing, we've got Josh (Emmanuel), Myles (Kenlock), Bish (Teddy Bishop) and Kundai (Benyu). I think if we could get those young lads in the team I think that would constitute a success, if they **ALL** stay in the team. Like I said, then I'll decide what I want to do." SW: And 'What I want to do' — Can you elaborate further on that? MM: "What I said, I'll decide what I want to do. I've got everybody telling me I should be sacked or going. I'll be the master of my own destiny. Unless Marcus sacks me, which I wouldn't be able to do anything about, I'll be the master of my own destiny. SW: So you might consider walking away if you didn't feel things were right? MM: "I haven't said that. I'll find out when the season finishes won't I? If those (young) players are in the team, if we finish well and look in good shape I may well want to stay on and continue doing it. If not, we'll see." SW: To be very clear, at the end of the season... MM: **Interjects** "Look, Stu, I can't elaborate any more than what I've just said can I? I think I've made it clear." So let's see..... A) 12th of April hmmmm..... It isn't "In the summer" as was the headline of TWTD's abbreviated :-) take on this interview (not calendar-wise and not temperatur-wise either as it's hardly over 10 degree celsius!) and nor is it by any literal means "AFTER the season finishes" (which is more precisely what he was quoted saying to SW)! B) Of "ALL" them promising youngsters he cares to name (Dozzell, Emmanuel, Kenlock, Bishop, Benyu) .... ehhhh only ONE is in the team with even the most remote form of regularity, and that is of course Mr. Kenlock .... However him getting noteworthy playing time is usually highly dependent on the availability of one of the DIno's super favorites Mr. Knudsen! Teenager phenom Andre Dozzell who haven't exactly regressed or disappointed during the last year have not played meaningful 1st team ball in ages!!! nor have Mr. Bishop who actually have been largely disappointing in the 1st team lately, whenever he has not been injured that is! As for Mr. Emmanual well he has somehow real seriously landed himself in the apparently clearly grudge-bearing or slightest dissent-intolerant Dino's 'doghouse'/'sheiiithouse' ... and the exciting Mr. Benyu is of course living the true 'La Dolce Vita' :-) in the freakin' Vanarama National League for crying out loud!!! Alas that very pitifully makes it just 1 of out of 5! of those youngster so highlighted by the the Dino himself as being not only a prerequisite for viewing the season as somewhat of a "success" but more importantly INSTRUMENTAL in his 'The Class' like decision to "should I stay or should I go?", which have thus "made it into the team" at least during the meaningful part of the league season! I.E. it doesn't really count at all in My Book if the Dino only 'succumb' to playing & starting a whole bunch of them only after we are mathematical safe .... because especially late season matches where both sides have nothing left to play for will nearly always be very unlike ones where there is something league importantly to play for! Why is not exactly 'Rocket Science' and thus is mostly because in the case of the former you as an individual can simply play and perform MUCH MUCH more freely! meaning not inherently being scared sheeitless of neither making mistakes, adhering to super strict (negative & hedgehog!) tactics, nor of losing OF COURSE! ---- Plus at least some among the genuine well established & veterans among the 22 on the field might also clearly be prone to being noticeable below average in both their personal intensity and motivation!, hence making even a possible very'good-looking' performance by any of those academy products and other youngster in such meaningless matches quite a bit 'cheapish' or even occasionally as far as directly somewhat misleading! IMHO thus certainly nothing to justify making silly PR 'spin' of or just in general get all hyper ecstatic about. ---- So as demonstrated that's at least 2 pivotal points i.e. the timing of when he would announce his by thousands and thousands of fans highly anticipated decision + the very essential part about ALL 5 named youngster having established themselves in the team by season's end in the Dino's ultra bold "I'm The Master of my own Destiny" proclamation (and additional you can also seriously question another prerequisite for staying he mentions to SW: Us looking "in good shape"!) all of which the self-perceived football genius Dino McCarthy has thus either ehmmm: A) very conveniently suddenly "all forgotten" about, B) flip-flopping gone 180 degree and went back on for no apparent reason (other than the recurring proverbial "2 fingers up"!), or C) said & presented as the naked & Whole **TRUTH** ...despite even in mid January personally being fully aware of him not intending to keep his own words and it basically being or at least becoming what is known within the legal system as a 'Knowingly False' statement = The Dino for the umpteenth time being umistakably DELUDED!!! Ohhhh But wait there is even more.... And this again is from the mid January interview with Stuart Watson, but much earlier in the article ... and in the whole context: SW: You've said yesterday was ‘horrible'. Did you try and avoid the fall-out and reaction? MM: "I was up at two o'clock, didn't sleep, then was out of bed at the usual time of quarter to six. I took my daughter to the train station, which was lovely, then I had my granddaughter. I bought **TWO NEWSPAPERS** purposely to get it over with. I read what they had to say. It was cathartic that, just to get it out of my system" SW: Do you become desensitised to criticism the longer you've been in football? MM: "I remember being considerably younger at Millwall and how much it did affect me then. You tend to take it far more personally when you're younger. I've got a bit more perspective on life now. People who say things to be hurtful, I can still manage to speak to them now, whereas when I was younger I might have confronted them... I STILL might when the occasion comes!" Now you if please combine these awesome & coy words with yesterday's EADT/IS article by the a@s-kissing susceptible Chris Brammer: "Mick McCarthy: I don't read the papers or listen to local radio" (which btw TWTD seemingly has deemed was of little or no interest to it's esteemed members???!!!) http://www.eadt.co.uk/sport/mick-mccarthy-i-don-t-read-the-papers-or-listen-to-l ......you should then easily be avle to see that both of these particular 2 mid January interview exchanges -- and answers first giving by MM to SW in it back then, and then to CB yesterday in a newer article, about the subject of fans and media being overwhelmingly critical of him -- is more or less DELIBERATELY contradicting 'hot air' and/or complete 'horsesheiiit'! And and as a couple of other objective readers (elsewhere) of the last 24 hrs mind-boggling ITFC news have already duly noted: For a man who claims NOT to read local papers or listen to local radio The Dino McCarthy seems remarkably "well informed" :-) LMAO! :-) not only of what he believe is being said about him (in the instance of him "ruining the club" said spoken/sung words was actually almost exclusively addressed to ME!) but also of course how alienated the vast majority of the fans feel towards him and the 'product' he presents ... and represents!!!!!!!!! Such a profound shame he doesn't care! Nor even can't see why!!! even if he just halfheartedly tried (cause as customary he would naturally be too preoccupied, as always, with padding himself on the back! and that in the clear 'Delusion of Granduer' mental disorder like fashion, mind you!). So I repeat this premature TIMING of this here ultra defying "I'm not going anywhere" statement can not be misconstrued!!! It's besides greedily being about money obviously then predominantly a unmistakable defying "FU@CK YOU, TOO!" to all those the fans who don't unconditionally worship him, his jaw-droppingly awesome CV :-) and his style & dispositions and thus generally are extremely depressingly by-default **complacent** & above all Points-Fixated ONLY Simpletons! And near last but not least of this here 'novella' like rant of mine I want to "salute" :-) all those Pro-MM'ers who have posted: "The facts speaks for themselves" or similar Stephen-Hakwing-like 'deductions' to that effect ... well here some "REAL" (thought provoking) facts for you silly blinkers-wearing muppets: Many times more Fan respectful and Fan respected Jim Magilton had a bigger winning % (37.8) than than your guru and one & only "Messiah" the draw-happy and nearly always setting up Not-To-Lose Dino McCarthy (37.6) .... yet JM was giving a much shorter leash of just 148 games only (and yes I know fully well he was giving significantly more funds to shop for) and this despite at least trying to play & preach POSITIVE (i.e. NOT fan-deterring!) football the majority of the time, but above all especially despite also accomplishing 2 soooo by MM and his worshippers inferred "FANTASTIC" top 10 finishes during his tenure!!! PS: For all those who are irreversibly (meaning not fickle-minded!) in the Anti-MM camp if you are in any way wholeheartedly serious about wanting to see regime changes at ITFC -- alas BEFORE you meet your maker and venture on into another ethereal shape that is! -- you simply HAVE TO vote with your feet (and invariably in many instances your wallets too): STAY AWAY!!!!!!!!!!!! and like me despite it feeling very painful & desertion-like BOYCOTT this rather terrible consumer product that is ITFC nowadays (aye imho also even if you have paid and for your season ticket!) .... and ohhh please also reconsider signing such an earlier in year somewhat ridiculed public petition, with full name and address too (obligated), as enough fans signing it will make it a legally proper petition, and I also recommend to follow the "Marcus Evans Out of ITFC" page on Facebook as the very 'Skeptical by Nature' folks behind it generally speaking seems very well informed. aye imho occasionally much more so than our beloved but also poorly bias-disguised TWTD I'm afraid. Rant over! Pheew! :-) And now thus let the @BillyBaxterwasthebest + McCarthy-Next-Of-Kin among our 'immaculate' fans commence with that very OCD like down-voting... :-)

Give him a long contract Give him more money Let him bring in the players he wants It won't make a flying figs worth of difference as he'll still play the dour, defensive, non entertaining football we've all suffered this season, and possibly beyond! The writing is on the wall, Evans knows if he stays, season ticket sales circa 10k, if he's replaced circa 15k & rising, it doesn't take a scientist [or businessman] to realise this. My guess & hope is he's gone at the end of the season, sorry MM but ITFC is more important than you.

I truly love the "Mick is not the problem" fans. Whilst Evans is the bigger problem, Mick is the person selecting Skuse and Douglas together at home in a 451 formation (2 defensive mids!!). Mick is the one signing the likes of Best and Coke as well as a plethora of others who drain the wage bill that could be saved for one special player. Mick is the one who plays Sears on the wing and absolutely ruins his confidence in front of goal, it's not his position and he's a shadow of his former self. Mick is the one leaving Dozzell nowhere near the team. Mick plays Knudsen over Kenlock. All of these points are almost irrelevant to the main point of his negativity. I can't stand the man anymore due to the sheer volume of times we've been in a position to go for the win and push forward and he holds back and goes for the draw. I'm tired of the negative tactics, QPR away being the most poignant. He disrespects the fans more than most managers I've seen. I'm not braindead and I will not be blindly backing a man who continuously goes against everything I believe as an Ipswich fan.
