McCarthy Makes Nine Changes at Rotherham
Saturday, 22nd Apr 2017 14:13

Town boss Mick McCarthy has made nine changes for this afternoon’s dead rubber at Rotherham with only skipper Luke Chambers and left-back Myles Kenlock remaining from the team which beat Newcastle United on Monday.

Dean Gerken returns in goal with Tommy Smith partnering Chambers at the centre of the defence and Josh Emmanuel at right-back.

In midfield, either Teddy Bishop or Andre Dozzell will join Toumani Diagouraga in central midfield with the other on the right, while Danny Rowe (pictured) makes his full Town debut on the left.

Up front, on-loan Reading man Dominic Samuel makes his full debut for the Blues up front with Brett Pitman.

Former Town keeper Lewis Price is on the bench for the Millers, while defender Semi Ajayi, who had a trial with the Blues in 2015, starts.

Rotherham: O’Donnell, Fisher, Ajayi, Wood, Mattock, Adeyemi, Smallwood, Vaulks, Taylor, Morris, Ward. Subs: Price, Forde, Clarke-Harris, Newell, Belaid, Bray, Purrington.

Town: Gerken, Emmanuel, Chambers (c), T Smith, Kenlock, Diagouraga, Bishop, Dozzell, Rowe, Samuel, Pitman. Subs: Bialkowski, Skuse, Digby, Bru, Ward, Sears, Moore. Referee: Jeremy Simpson (Lancashire).

Happy with that line up given the opposition & that we have nothing to play for. Hopefully one or two other youngsters on the bench in the last two games

So Dozzel can't play on a full strength team because we are not good enough ...yet now gets a run out with the second string ....what are you on Mick

That said always good to see the youngsters and looking forward to see what Rowe can do especially ......bit tough on them though getting in when 9 changes...hardly introduces them to a supportive strong team around them !!

Hope they can embarrass Rotherham with an excellent performance ...a loss at the NY stadium could knock their confidence

Would of been good to of seen Ben Morris on the bench, could of maybe sacrificed one of the 3 substitute midfielders! That apart looks decent. COYB☺

Glad that some 'fringe'players are being given a chance, and this should continue for the remaining 2 games too.
Hopefully not reading too much into Gerken starting, especially after we have given a reserve keeper a 3 years deal on first team wages. Hopefully I am wrong and Bart is going nowhere.
Will be good to see what Rowe can do although he must be given the three games.
Hopefully Bishop can also play the 3 games...but I doubt it, as I again expect he will get injured
Would also liked to have seen Samual partnered with Sears, but that is just my preference

Nice line up that is. Good chance for some players to step up and play themselves into micks mind as a first choice.

not happy with this, if we play badly (and it'd be a miracle if it's not disjointed) then mick says, the players aren't ready. far better to make 2 or 3 changes from the regular side. interesting that diagouraga & chambers are playing though, wonder if we're keeping them on?

Totally agree with positivity poor team asking players who have not featured all season to gel then if it goes wrong he will say players not good enough McCarthy OUT

I think it's a good chance for some other players too show what they can do so the manger (who ever he is) can start to look at next season an see what we need in the summer.

It's good to see Dozzell, Rowe, Emmanuel & Bishop getting a game but I'm also interested in seeing how Samuel does as he could be a very useful signing in the summer if some of the reports on him from training are acurate & he fulfills that potential.
I'm also happy to see Diagouraga start. I know it's easy to pick on Skuse, but I think he's neither one thing nor the other & therefore can limit the both the choice of other midfielders in the team & their creativity when playing alongside him - I give you Douglas. I'm not sold on Diagouraga, but I think he can give more & allows for less defensive mindedness around him. Obviously Rotherham in a dead rubber will help with that too, but should be somewhat instructive nonetheless.

Not sure putting too many new faces on at once is a great idea for them us or football.
I would still like to see us actually win and be entertaining but this could all go badly and that's bad for everyone

I give Mick his due here. I wanted him to play an "experimental" team, and he's done just that. Let's hope they perform. COYB!

I am ok with the selection. MM is not able to keep everyone happy!

Cant argue with this, although would prefer stronger line up in future cup games.

Can Phil ask Mick at post match interview why Jonny Williams has not been in the team or subs recently please?

Just so there's a bit of negativity Dozzell, Bishop and Diagouraga are central midfielders so if we're playing 4-4-2 isn't that square pegs in round holes i.e. Ward playing on the wing most of the season then the messiah saying he's better in the middle? Don't get me wrong it's good to see fringe players get a chance but at least play them in their strongest position.

Glad to see some younger ones get a run out. Micks quite clever thoe you think this team lose its cause he was trying them and the other two games if we lose either its oh they are good teams. So who did this suit more?

Seasider - I could be wrong but I'm certain under the terms of the loan we only pay Palace when Jonny Williams plays for us - with the season over, why waste £££ playing the lad. Unlucky for him however!

He treats us hardworking fans with absolute contempt, playing weakened sides in the cup for eg.I would quite like us to have a good cup run then maybe we would have something to cheer about.
