Town Confirm Huws Permanent Deal
Wednesday, 28th Jun 2017 17:11

Town have confirmed that midfielder Emyr Huws has rejoined the Blues from Cardiff City on a permanent basis, signing a four-year deal. Last night, TWTD revealed that Huws’s return to Town was set to be completed today.

We understand the fee, while officially undisclosed, is approaching £1 million, just below the figure paid to Rangers for striker Joe Garner earlier this month.

The Wales international enjoyed a hugely successful loan spell at Portman Road during the second half of last season, scoring three goals in 13 starts.

“We are delighted to have got the deal done. I’m sure the fans are thrilled as well,” boss Mick McCarthy told the club site.

“Emyr was outstanding for us last season. He was arguably our best player along with Tom Lawrence and he certainly made us a better team.

“He’s only 23 so there is improvement in him. I’m sure other clubs would have been interested in him but we’re delighted he’s back with us. He was different class when he was here.”

Huws himself added: "I'm really happy to get it done and I'm delighted to sign up here.

"It took a bit longer than expected but I'm really happy to get it all sorted. Now I'm looking forward to getting back and the season ahead.

"The fans were great with me last season, and were very positive towards me. I appreciate that support and I'm looking forward to playing in front of them again for Ipswich Town."

Huws played youth football with Swansea and then Manchester City, where he made one senior sub appearance.

While with City he spent time on loan at Northampton, Birmingham and Wigan before joining the Latics on a permanent basis in 2014.

A spell on loan at Huddersfield followed last season before he moved to Cardiff on a permanent basis last summer signing a three-year deal but made only two starts and two sub appearances for the Bluebirds.

Firmly out of Cardiff manager Neil Warnock's plans, he took a pay cut to join Town on loan in January in order to play first team football.

Llanelli-born Huws has been capped 11 times by Wales at full level, scoring one goal, in addition to appearances at U17, U19 and U21 levels.

Meanwhile, former Norwich striker Kyle Lafferty, who was recently linked with the Blues, has joined Scottish Premiership side Hearts.

Ex-Blues frontman Jack Marriott has moved from Town's Carabao Cup opponents Luton to Peterborough United. The 22-year-old was released by the Blues in the summer of 2015 having come through the academy.

What a breath of fresh air there is around the club at the present,
players signing on a permanent basis has to be good for the future instead of losing them after a season(which has kept us going for the last 4 years) at last we are showing some forward thinking and about flippin time!!!!!!!!!

Good signing. Need a more defensive minded or up and down midfielder alongside him and 442 will look a good option again.

Brilliant news, a really positive signing who will hopefully turn out to be a real bargain at under £1M. I wish more loans were like this, leading to good players joining afterwards permanently.

@tractorboybig - nice to see your living up to your name, and fair play to you, massive respect in fact. I completely get where your coming from, not necessarily on the Huws subject but regarding the wave of uthoria sweeping this site is a joke. Loads of upper grabbers hungry for them 'uppers' saying what people want to hear with zero substance to them. I'm not sure if I feel sad for them, or the posters content to mark such crap up. The change of mood on here is very commendable and let's be honest here, we all want to be like that, but for the right reasons. It's only a matter of weeks that everyone was venting there anger towards MM, M.E or whoever and now everything's sweet and fecking dandy. That look in my book comes across as being somewhat shallow, but hey each to there own!!!

Squad coming together. Decent back up at GK, RWB, LWB. We need cover at CB even though Smith and Webster are as good as new signings. Skuse/Tunnicliffe, Huws/McGinn + Hyam would be great competition for CM. Celina/DM/Freddie/Garner plus big striker TBA (please not Lafferty) as attacking options, plus the kids. I'm excited for the first time in years. Wouldn't it be nice if the opposition worried about us rather than the other way around. COYMBj.

So glad we have finally signed huws! And to be fair we got a good deal as I would have guessed at the deal being about 2 million, so to get him for under a million is good business. Proper box to box cm who will add a goal threat from midfield, chuffed! Well done town.

Still want to see how MM uses these new players before getting too excited.

But, well done ITFC.

Excellent news. I hold my hands up and thought this was a real bum deal when Mick signed him on loan - but was proved wrong. Credit must go to Mick for bringing him in on loan initially having identified him - when most like me were truely underwhelmed. Credit to Mick.

I do still feel like we are doing early business as a masked attempt to get a few more season ticket sales in - but I'd rather continue in this manner to collate a group who can gather a full pre season, rather than the old excuse we've often used in the past that the players didn't get a full pre season - and picking up strays and loanee's at the seasons start.

I feel a minor sense of happiness toward the club for the first time in a year... let's continue this by keeping Bart, and having an injury free season. Then who knows...!

Share my optimism...!

Excellent signing, another couple of quality signings and we'll be fine. Psychological where have Bristol city had 5m from for one player?

2 bits of good news.

Huws has signed.

Lafferty has signed...........

.......................................................... for Herts, get in.

On a crazy note how can Bristol City have £5.3 million to spunk on some bloke from France? What the actual?

Good young player, already proven at this level (with us!) and will only get better if he stays injury free. Our central midfield options seem pretty good already, we can pick 2 or 3 from , Huws, Skuse, Hyam, Bishop, Dozzel, a few youngsters and (depending on formation) Ward.
