Carabao Cup Tie With Palace at Selhurst Park
Thursday, 10th Aug 2017 22:32

Town’s second round Carabao Cup tie with Crystal Palace will take place at Selhurst Park, not Portman Road as initially announced after confusion during the draw.

A third ball was drawn to indicate whether the first team out of the hat would be home or away and after Palace were drawn, a red ball denoting a home tie followed.

However, the game was announced as an away match for Palace in error by former Eagle John Salako before they were subsequently paired with Town. The match has now been confirmed for Selhurst Park as should initially have been the case.

The teams last met in the Championship at Portman Road in April 2013 when the Blues won 3-0. Earlier that season the Eagles had beaten Town 5-0 at Selhurst Park.

The sides have met once before in the League Cup back in 1996 when the Blues won 4-1 with Alex Mathie and Paul Mason both scoring twice. Carl Veart netted for the visitors.

The game could see ex-Blues defender Damien Delaney face his old club along with former loanees Jonny Williams and Andros Townsend. One-time Town striker Connor Wickham is still recovering from a cruciate knee ligament injury sustained last season.

The tie will be played in the week commencing Monday 21st August.

Maybe we confused the whole thing by being in the draw in the first place!

Yea, quick trip across south London. Bit of a walk to decent pubs away from the ground.

Pathetic from Sky. How much a month do they charge?! Talk about complicate something simple. Many media outlets are reporting we and other clubs ate incorrectly at home. People may be booking advance train tickets to snap up cheap fares.

And Usain Bolt has won. Oops, no he hasn't. But as I said he did we'll have to let it stand...

Sounds a right mess. It's surely not that hard

Update: Late unconfirmed reports are suggesting that the tie will be played simultaneously both home and away. Whoever wins on aggregate qualifies.

If it's a draw then there will be a trolley-race between the tea-ladies of the opposing teams across their own home grounds, winner takes it all (order your tea early as there mightn't be much left in the pot after the 90-yard dash).

If the two sides still can't be separated then the team with the least number of letters in their name goes through two rounds automatically and the longer-named team becomes a yellow ball in the shape of the inside of a kinder-egg in the draw for the next round. The significance of the yellow ball-egg will be clarified a couple of hours after the draw for the next round is made.

I think that's right now unless we hear otherwise.

This is just another example of what is blighting our game. 'Moneymen' taking over the game, with no real knowledge or care. The League Cup, or whatever they want to call it now, should be be a straight draw of ALL clubs in the football league. Premiership teams should be part of this from the First Round.
The Famous FA Cup, has local teams battling in many qualifying rounds before getting the honour to play a League Club, anyone care about this?

I was hoping we wouldn't draw a premier league team but if we carry on like this, we might cause an upset.

@Sam
We caused an upset in the last round by beating Luton. They're far better than the teams that have been knocking us out recently!!!!

Good draw that guaranteed to be loads of Ipswich there, one of the poorer prem teams who will put out a weakened team.
Our combination of yoof and new signings can take them

the league cup is dead if they seed the big clubs.

Notice whenever SKY make a cock up they completely blank any reference to it or admit a mistake. Further coverage that night just focused on the 'Transfer Centre'. Even the Guardian reporting on the draw confusion today still have Ipswich at home.

Just had a word with my mate Donald Trump. Don't panic! Its all fake news!. The cup competition doesn't really exist, and if Sky does it again they'll meet with Fire, Fury and a good Nukeing

What's wrong with the old system where the team first out of the hat plays at home? Why meddle unnecessarily with a simple & sensible format?
