Rotherham Keen to Sign Moore on Permanent Deal Wednesday, 23rd Aug 2017 10:20
Rotherham boss Paul Warne says he’s already keen to sign on-loan Town striker Kieffer Moore on a permanent basis.
Moore, 25, joined the League One Millers in July on loan for the season - with the Blues entitled to recall him in January - and has made a strong start to the campaign.
The Torquay-born frontman, signed by the Blues from Forest Green Rovers for £20,000 in January, netted a hat-trick in his first league start for his loan club as the South Yorkshiremen thrashed Southend 5-0 at home the Saturday before last, then added another in the weekend 2-1 defeat at Peterborough.
“I think certain players suit certain clubs at certain times and Kieffer is a typical Rotherham attacker,” Warne told the Sheffield Star.
“I think the fans really appreciate what he does and how hard he works for someone so big. He looks after himself amazingly well so he is right up my street on that score.”
He confirmed that he’d like Moore to be a permanent member of his squad: “He is someone I would like to have longer at the club going forward.
“I’d like to think he wants to be here and we could put something together that would attract him.
“If Ipswich are not looking to sell until January then it doesn’t matter what I offer because while he is scoring and in the shop window they will be in no rush.
He added: “If I could put a bid in that would attract him in a few weeks’ time, then I would. I know we are the only ones who could buy him before January because of the rules.
“If the player wants to stay and everything was right, I would like to keep him. I don’t have to do it this window, so that is not an immediate rush.”
Speaking last week following the hat-trick, Town boss Mick McCarthy said he was pleased Moore, whose contract is up at the end of the season but with the Blues having an option to keep him for another year, had made a strong start to his time at Rotherham.
“I’m delighted he’s got his hat-trick, he’s playing well, that’s the reason I sent him out,” McCarthy said. “And just thank God we’ve got our strikers scoring because [otherwise the fans here would] be screaming blue murder!
“But for now that's his level, for me. He can get better. He’s got everything to be [better], he’s big and powerful and he runs in channels, he’s got to learn a lot of things, I think.
“And he’s getting that opportunity playing in League One. And they love him, they’re delighted with him, even more so after Saturday, of course.
“So, that’s the reason, it’s to help him to help us. Not to help Rotherham, but that’s the by-product. They’ve taken him but from our point of view, hopefully he’ll get better and we can see him as a first-team player.
“And if we don’t, if he keeps scoring goals we’ll be able to sell him for more than we bought him for.”
Moore, who made 11 sub appearances without scoring for Town last season, was also interesting a number of other clubs prior to his move to Rotherham, including Plymouth, Port Vale, Stevenage and Partick Thistle.
Town right-back Josh Emmanuel, 20, is also currently on a season-long loan at the New York Stadium and has started all three of their league games so far.

I'm glad to see him doing well there, but I wouldn't agree to anything just yet. If he carries on the way he is doing, definitely bring him back as he is a good option to bring on if we're chasing something and throwing balls into the box. Scored a great header the other day and think this move is as a solid move to bring the confidence out of him. Carry on what you're doing lad and see what happens.
Moore is probably keen on staying at Rotherham because there's little opportunity for him right now at Ipswich. Although much like Tom Lawrence, if he really comes into his own over the season then there may well be a place for him when his loan spell ends.
As mentioned above, it was about time Ben Morris got a look in! He's looked deadly for some time - he just hadn't been given the chance to shine in the first team. He put all the work in for that goal last night. A great looking prospect!
Just don't think he will ever have enough to compete with Garner, McGoldrick etc. Could probably collect around 250k for him if he continues to score goals between now and January.
Well tough luck. Nice that the ball's in our court regarding a loanee for once. We'll only let him go if it looks like he'll never break into our first team. It's looking like an error letting Marriott go permanently so hope we don't make the same mistake.
In the current market if he gets 20gls must be near 5 million, Rotherham could never offer anywhere near that, best option we go up sell him to the championship next year for 5 - 10 million, happy days.
Good to see him doing so well. However, with our new strikers he is even less likely to get game time. Earlier, I was all for selling him, but on reflection, what's the point at the moment? If he continues to do well his value will rise and we could cash in January. If he doesn't push on, we only paid a few thousand so no big deal.
Selling young players before giving them time to mature and develop is in my opinion rather foolhardy. Players develop at different rates. For instance how much would we have got for Jack Marriot if we had had the patience and waited?
Odd comments above. Lets review end of season. If he kicks on let him fight for a place next preseason. Why wont he force his way in. Much younger than our current strikers.
Hello from a first time poster... It's good to see he's getting regular game time and doing well in League One, but let's not get carried away; It is a drop down in level of football, after all. The spell will do him good for sharpness and confidence and if he can come back and provide competition for places then so much the better, but MM will know what he needs to work on and will be watching very closely, I'm sure. No doubt the club will want to see what transpires and will be in no rush to do anything hasty with regards to a permanent deal.
Also... a bit confused as to the comments regarding Jack Marriott on here... He's done ok since leaving - (22 Goals in 79 apps in league 2) and started very well this year in league one but he left at the right time in my opinion and good luck to him but I don't think his relatively good numbers would have been as good as that in the Championship.
Fisons please remember all are entitled to their opinion, they maybe misguided and differ from you, but it is still their opinion. Don't take being voted up or down personally as it really means nothing in the grand scheme of things. Welcome aboard, you are in for a bumpy ride.
I may be the only supporter who feels he was not given a fair chance. He joined at the end of a crap season in a struggling team that gave him little service. We did not play to his strengths and he was on and off the subs bench. He could be an asset at this club if he was used in a team that can provide the ammunition and he has scored some fine goals at Rotherham to prove that. The same thing happened with Niasse at Everton where he was not given time to show what he could do. It is strange that McCarthy, a manager who made a total mess of last season with player choice, tactics team selection etc , is telling the lad he has to learn more after recruiting him. Did the same message apply to Leon Best , Douglas, etc etc
