Chambers: I Should Be Ready to Return Against Bolton
Thursday, 14th Sep 2017 11:41

Town skipper Luke Chambers says he hopes to return to the team when the Blues face Bolton Wanderers at Portman Road on Saturday.

The 31-year-old suffered an ankle injury in the 4-3 win at Millwall and has been sidelined for the last three Championship matches at a time when fellow central defenders Tommy Smith (hamstring) and Adam Webster (ankle) have also been unavailable.

Chambers, who was the only Championship player to feature for every minute of all a club’s 46 games last season, will train with his team-mates today and believes he should be ready to face the bottom-of-the-table Trotters.

“I’m hoping to be involved at the weekend,” the former Northampton and Nottingham Forest man told the club site.

“I haven’t had many injuries in my career at all really so this one was frustrating, but I have been through all the rehab and it feels nothing compared to what I played through last year so it’s a strange one.""

“I’m feeling good and providing today and Friday’s training sessions go well, I genuinely feel I’m ready to play.”""

Meanwhile, Bolton will be without winger Will Buckley and central defender Derik Osede due to hamstring and groin injuries respectively.

We need him and he will play if aloud, presuming Webster and Smith are not back the team will be, Bart, Connoly, Chambers, Knudsen, Spence, Skuse Ward, Celina, Mcgoldrick, Waghorn, Garner. Up the town!!!!!

Hard to know what Mick will do. However, I think 1) Knudsen should play centre back, 2) Connolly could play left back, freeing up Spence/Iorfa for other roles maybe 3) Celina must start. After that, I don't know. Realistically, we can't fit them all in, but for heaven's sake let's go for a win against Bolton, no holds barred.

Most supporters on here didn't want him playing at right back !

As centre half he is first name on team sheet

Personally feel he's not as good at CB as he was (don't forget he spent 2 seasons or so at that silly right back position, thanks to Mick) - I remember back in 2012/13 season when he and Smith looked pretty good together after Mick took over. As a captain yes no doubt he's committed but I don't feel he should be an automatic starter at CB but in the current circumstances we need him back.

play him as a holding midfielder he can't be any worse than the current arm band holder(who should never be in a town shirt let alone captain us) who has the leadership qualities and get up and go of a sloth.

....... let's be fair - here we have yet another player who has spent most of his time at Portman Road playing out of position, Chambers knows that, we know that.
Not at all sure he was an outstanding CB, but MM has done him no favours by playing him at RB for so long - may never be as good [as how ever he was) because it.

Another player that MM has not got the best from. It goes on - and will.

........ square pegs in round holes - should only be for emergencies - and does no one any favours.

That has not been the case.

Steve ITFC Sweden. You say you not sure what the Dino will do.

Well I am pretty sure, 99%,that he will play Skuse, especially as he' s currently Captain.McCarthy has said previously that he is the first name on the team sheet !!!

Why ?Surely he can see legs have just started to go, like it did with 'Dougie';however he continued to play Jonathan Douglas, almost right to the end.Was it to' cock a snook'at supporters I wonder.

Now the same thing is happening with Skuse, and Celina. The more we call for his favourite, who he has never criticised,to be dropped;the longer he will leave him in,even to the detriment of performances.

McCarthy has already obliquely criticised Celina as well as praising him,and his 'bloody minded' nature has meant that we have only seen the Kosovan in cameo league appearances so far. Will he start him, possibly(I hope).Feel he will leave Adeyemi out, using the excuse that he is not 100% fit, enabling him to continue with Sideways Skuse.

I am sure though that he will include another of his favourites Chambo,if at all possible, and in the current situation this is a must.

And then we have

Just as he brought him on last season, when we lost by the same score

it's not rocket science; Chambo in for Spence. We haven't seen a better performance at right back this season than Conolly gave last Sat, despite the result. In midfield and attack there are more questions. Celina and Adeyemi might be tempting.

Interesting. If Chambo is "fit" he will definitely play. Given the players we have have been wondering about the potential to try a 3-4-3 line-up:
Bart
Connolly Chambers Knudsen
Spence Ward Adeymi Celina
Waghorn Didz Garner
Subs: Gerkin Iorfa Woolfenden Downes Skuse Sears Rowe

While a little light defensively the front 7 are all capable of scoring and with judicious use of the bench t could be very lively over the 90+ minutes. Just a thought so comments welcome......

Wouldn't mnd seeing that line up KiwiBlue;but fear it a bit adventurous for Mick

Skues in place of Adeymi,as I said earlier, although would rather see the latter

Nonsense to think that we can play all of our attacking players at the same time and win. Also nonsense to think that MM has the slightest idea what anyone on here is thinking about Cole Skuse. He's just picking the best team he can to try and win the match. From what I've seen this season Skuse is doing a good job. He's put in some fantastic cover tackles and is really trying to look forward with his passing. He's not naturally as good at that as Downes or Dozzell but that's not his role.
