Rotherham Boss: Bid in and Hopeful of Moore Return
Sunday, 31st Dec 2017 12:15

Rotherham manager Paul Warne has confirmed that the Millers have put a bid in for striker Kieffer Moore, who played his last game for the League One side yesterday with Town having cut short his season-long loan.

Moore wasn’t able to add to his 13 goals after coming on as a sub in the 2-1 win at Walsall, his fourth appearance from the bench for the South Yorkshiremen in addition to his 21 starts, having returned from a three-match ban for a red card at Bristol Rovers.

“He’s definitely going back, so that was his last game for us,” Warne told BBC Radio Sheffield.

“We’ve put a bid in as will other clubs, I presume, as will Ipswich have a look at him.

“I spoke to Mick [McCarthy] and he said to me there’s a chance he might even play in the game [at Fulham] on Tuesday night for Ipswich.

“So if that is the case I wish him all the best, if he goes back and plays in the Championship every week.

“He’s done brilliantly for us. I just made the big mistake of hugging him in the changing rooms because it feels like I’m losing my son, but he was covered in sweat so that wasn’t so great, but at the time it seemed like a good idea.

“He’s going back and then if they want to sell him, the usual thing happens, he goes to the highest bidder and hopefully we’ll be in and about it.

“But if he stays at Ipswich and plays there for the rest of the season, good luck to him, because he’s been great for us, he’s been a good lad.

“The lads were telling him to do a speech, so it was quite funny in there. Hopefully he’ll be back but as everyone knows in football, you never know.”

If Town do opt to sell 6ft 5in tall Moore, who they bought from Forest Green Rovers for £20,000 in January of this year, Warne believes the striker’s successful spell at the New York Stadium will give his club an advantage over the other suitors, with Charlton, Scunthorpe and Bradford also among those interested.

“I think it does,” he added. “I think the fact that he’s a bit of a cult hero here does.

“I had him in my office this week and had a chat with him about it. It’s nice to play where you’re loved.

“You can play for loads of clubs in your career but there are only probably one or two you play for where you feel like there’s a real affinity with the fans and I think definitely he’s got that here.

"And I think he feels at home here, he knows everything here and I think we’ve got a really good chance.

“But if Mick decides he wants to keep him as an Ipswich player or someone from Russia comes and buys him, that’s a different ball game.

“I’m hopeful that he’ll come back, obviously, and I’ll keep in contact with him on a daily basis to get updates but as it is at the moment it’s out of my hands.”

Torquay-born Moore, who is contracted to the Blues until the end of the season with the club having an option to keep him for a further year, made 11 sub appearances for Town last season without scoring.

Blues right-back Josh Emmanuel is also on a season-long loan with the Millers and played the full 90 minutes yesterday.

Well let's see how he goes. Hope he gets a bit more than 5 minutes at the end. I hope that we can bounce back from Saturday but Fulham have outplayed us in the last few games with them. We really need 3 points to get going again and keep in touch with the team in 6th place. Still plenty of games left and fingers crossed that we can strengthen in the transfer window. Happy new year everyone don't give up hope................

If we get 1 million sell and invest in the team. Defence and midfield. Plus if big bid for Bart sell and buy what we need.

Firstly, I doubt MM will get much of a say. Evans will decide whether he wants to cash in. My guess is he will.

It's all well and good saying let him or Bart go and then reinvest the money. Sadly, we know from previous experience that it doesn't work like that. The money is allegedly reinvested in the running of the club or wages.

Jas0999 - Mick makes every football related decision at the club. Who stays and who goes, so it won't be Evans calling the shots.

Reinvesting money in loans (Celina and Lawrence cost over £1m plus wages), is still reinvesting.

Losses predicted to be £10m+ this season, so we can't keep losing all that money. We, along with 20 other clubs, sell to then bring new players in, or keep our better players on better deals. Not rocket science, but can seem boring to fans.

I think Mick will want to give him a run in the team. In theory, Moore is very much a McCarthy type of player and his confidence must be high. If it doesn't work out, loan him back and look to sell in the summer.

If we sell, the money won't be reinvested and is a drop in the huge ocean that is our spiralling debt. Perhaps it's better to try and get a return on a £20k investment on the pitch rather than selling him for a fee that is likely to be well south of £1m?

I'm more interested in the fact Warburton is available now Forest have fired him.

And Mick makes the decision to have a go at critical fans at every opportunity causing the lowest gates in decades and loss of gate receipts, Bravo MM

Is Moore a replacement for Garner if he is injured or rested.
I think Town will only sell for silly money and I don't think Rotherham will have silly money to spend.
I can see Moore being brought more in to the first team ready for next year.
Moore was not ready for the Championship as it's a huge step up from Forest Green, the games in Div 1 has given him more experience than he would have got with Town.
The other question is will he be able to become a Championship striker only time will tell and if he is given the chance will the fans back him if he is not scoring week in week out.
If Town slip down the table by playing Moore will the fans jump on Mick back for playing someone who not scoring.

EkderGrizzly. Do you really believe if someone offered £1m Evans would have no say? Don't think so. Also, don't believe the nonsense about £10 loss. It includes depreciation, intro group interest and tax loss benefits. With a small squad and bottom half wages it would be ridiculous to lose that sort of money.
Loans are not investments. If we spend £1m on a loan player I would rather buy a quality league 2 player and keep him.

Otherwise spot on!!!

........ no future for him here unless McCarthy goes - my guess is that Moore will have a move to Rotherham on his New years wish list for sure. He won't be relishing the thought of staying at Portman Road.

Karlosfandangal .......... ever crossed your mind that this gut needs service to score goals and be succesful - something he has no chance of getting playing under McCarthy.

He knows he gets it at Rotherham.

Blueboy

You are correct it had not crossed my mind. Ipswich have scored no goals and no one has an assist this season.

Elder - I accept your point of view, but when it comes to selling players Evans very much has a say. I also realise that loans need to be paid for, but I for one am getting more and more annoyed at selling permanent players and bringing in a short term solution on loan. Back to square one in the summer. For me the strategy is completely wrong.

I agree with you, another point of view is with the loans we are getting players we can't afford Celina and Lawrence and gives the club a chance to see players ie Huws before buying or Iofa who we can send back instead of getting stuck with a long term contract

Last goal was 6 games ago on November 11th. Interested as to the size of the bid.

Very average player who may have had a purple patch but now seems back to normal self , another no lose signing by MM that he cannot be judged on due to fee . .
The loan budget is no different to when MM joined so the selling of Mings and Murphy is money that should have been reinvested , we lose playing squad numbers every season and have still not replaced Berra from this summer . Whole club needs a big change or will have even less supporters coming through gates

Am interested to see what happens with McGoldrick. Someone said a few days ago his contract is up at the end of the season with the club not having a right of renewal. Can anyone confirm or advise otherwise?

Just watched Palace high lights and I just cannot see why they need another goalkeeper,
with Hennessy no. 1 at the moment and Speroni no.2 where would our Bart fit in ????? no.3 ????/

McG already winding down in the hope of nice 4 year contract somewhere else. Don't expect anything from the Physio's favourite.

If McG is planning to just run his contract down and go at end of season I would have thought that he would want to be playing and scoring to attract attention. I hope that he starts at Fulham in the middle of the midfield three.

There is no way Town will sell Moore at this stage. If Rotherham wanted him should have done a deal with the bloke who went to Cardiff

How is everyone looking to immediately bin off a striker who's 2nd top scorer in L1 when Freddie Sears has made 22 appearances for us this year?!
