Cardiff and Birmingham Linked With McGoldrick
Thursday, 4th Jan 2018 12:50

Cardiff City and Birmingham City are reportedly keen on Town striker David McGoldrick, whose Blues contract is up at the end of the season.

According to The Sun, Bluebirds boss Neil Warnock wants the 30-year-old as he looks to boost his side's promotion aspirations, while Midlanders’ manager Steve Cotterill is also said to be interested as his club battles relegation.

It’s claimed Town might be tempted by a small fee for McGoldrick, whose deal is up in the summer with his terms not including an option for the club to keep him for a further year.

He is probably still one of our most technically gifted players but injuries have set him back , and not been the same player over past 12 to 18 months . I honestly think we need to clear the decks and build for the future . He is one of a very few players we will actually get some money for . Good player , good servant but maybe time to cash in while we can !

Sell doesn't fit in our team

I cannot understand why he did not have a one year extension clause, that way we could have got a few bob more for him as he is a very gifted player with still a few years in him.Just seems very odd to me why we are letting a few players run there contracts down.
Not the correct way to run a business.!

I personally would sell now. He's more likely to get more injuries as he gets older and he is costing the Club a lot in wages. We like st the best opportunity when Leicester came calling. Don't miss the boat a second time. Although I doubt he'd go to either interested Club.

12th man. Thing is, at the end of the day, hes made it apparent hes likely to leave at the end of the season, in which case hell walk away for nothing. So while we may not get a lot for him it may be best to sell him now and at least get something.

Last season we could not buy a striker as they cost so much money, yet McGoldrick could go for a "small fee"?

Be fools to just let him leave, as we all know on his day, he is one of our most gifted players! Shame injuries have hampered his career.

If he's going to go in the summer maybe best to cash in. I don't want to see him go though, On his day our best player still.

Maybe Mcgoldrick wouldn't sign his initial contract with an extention claus in it and that running his contract down, is down to him and not the club. In other words, perhaps the club have been trying to get him to sign another contract and he sees that he has a toe into the shop window and a contract on the table should no one have come in for him.

Should of let Leicester have him when they came calling. Was a hell of an offer for a player that has spent so much time on the treatment table. Talented yes but also very hot and cold

If we want to keep him, offer a new contract now, if he refuses it, sell. Don't think there's much point keeping him for the battle to finish 10th.

Great foil for a big man like Murphy (when fit) but we are now a counter-attacking side and his lack of pace does not sit well.

If we had a team or manager with the ability and balls to try an dominate opposition, then you would need someone like Didz to pick open the lock.

Even so, can't see us selling a fit and able quality player with a relegation battle looming. We need everything we can get, unless this Drnan lad is the real deal and MM sees him Garbs, Waghorn and Celina ahead of Didz.

Hindsight is easy but that £7 million we turned down now seems so long ago. I'd have been gutted had we accepted it hen, but looking back wish we had.

Having said that, we wouldn't have reinvested so not sure why I'd have taken the £££'s.

Can they make a offer for McCarthy to its 4 months to may with him still here

Probably my favourite of our players, however is one of our biggest earners and always misses large parts of the season through injury.

As MM is very unlikely to be here next season I doubt ME will be offering new contracts to anyone yet...

Hes 30 Years Old, yes he is probs one of our best players but personally i would sell now whilst we can. Or hes gonna sign another 2 year deal with us and we'll get nothing for him. Sadly if we do sell him, there is no way the money will be reinvested or even the chance given to the likes of Folami! I think build for the future is way forward! Get rid of Mick and lets move on

I'd be happy to see him go as I don't seem him playing enough games. Also,I've heard rumours that MM is looking at a new two year contract here. I hope it's not true but there are no signs of a replacement being lined up. This season is more or less over and probably will be by 5pm Saturday so why aren't we getting the new manager in NOW to prepare for next season. Nathan Jones could be worth a punt as his style of attacking football is what this club was once all about. There are probably a few others too but I have had enough of big name failures at this club.

Who can we get from cardiff as a swap?

Hate seeing this decision made by a coaching staff who won't be here next year. If philosophy changes he may be exactly what we need, obviously Celina won't be here next year and someone has to fill that gap.

Warnock wants Didz to 'boost his side's promotion aspirations', whilst we 'might be tempted by a small fee for McGoldrick'. Sums up the respective ambitions of the two clubs.
If - and it's a big if - we are in the play off frame towards the end of the season, a player of Didz's quality could make the difference. I believe that his contribution this season to date would have been far greater if he hadn't been played out wide.
