Moore Completes Barnsley Switch
Monday, 8th Jan 2018 19:12

Barnsley have confirmed the signing of Blues striker Kieffer Moore on a three-and-a-half-year deal.

Moore, 25, is understood to have cost the Tykes a fee of £750,000 and will be paid nearly £10,000 a week at Oakwell, almost certainly more than three times his wage at Portman Road.

Barnsley boss Paul Heckingbottom told his club's official site: “Kieffer is an excellent addition to the side and we’re really pleased to bring him here. It’s a deal that the club has worked hard on and got done quickly, so I’m delighted with that.

"He’s a player in top form and will bring something different to improve the side. We were after a player of his qualities, who can offer something different and improve the starting XI.

"His height will trouble defenders and cause problems, but as a player he’s got much more in his locker and will score different types of goals.

"Kieffer has already been in the local area and knows South Yorkshire now, so I expect him to settle quickly and work hard to get into our team.”

The Blues signed Moore for £20,000 from Forest Green Rovers last January and he made 11 sub appearances without scoring.

The 6ft 5in tall Torquay-born frontman joined League One Rotherham in the summer and scored 13 goals while at the New York Stadium before being recalled at the start of the year with a number of mainly third tier sides keen on signing him on a permanent basis, in addition to the Millers and his new club.

I would have been inclined to give him another chance here but it's hard to argue with that fee. He's yet to prove himself at Championship level so it's a bit of a gamble for Barnsley. Many of his Rotherham goals were tap-ins. I'm not sure he has the guile to cut it against better quality Championship defences. My hunch he is won't be a Jordan Rhodes. Far from it.

But all the best to him. A huge pay rise and a shot at more regular football.

Good luck Kieffer - what a deal for him and the club. Have got to give the scouts and MM credit for this, spending 20k and then a year later selling him for 750k. The question that we all want an answer for is ME going to allow MM to invest any of it - this will ultimately show everyone how ambitious the club is or not !

...... come off it warktheline - you can't ignore 13 goals in half a season, at any level. Give credit where due.

....in defence of McCarthy the strikers he's unloaded are playing lower division football ! What ever happened to JET, I rest my case! The trouble lies with this club's policy of picking up 'small potential' players and hoping beyond hope they'll scrub up like a diamond ! Very counterproductive unless the system is ultilized correctly! Evans got lucky with Moore!

Will be sods law he scores the winner against us but having said that did zip in an Ipswich shirt for me and despite his goals at a lower level I suspect these will quickly dry up, hope we can keep the Bart man now and bring on the new Murph. I am not at all happy with the club at present but for me this is a great deal.

........ it'll be 'invested' in wages for more loan players at best.

Haven't we heard it all before ? - expect it again then.

@blueboy, time will tell! Rotherham' form nosedived after a good start, and has picked up since Moore's departure ! Teams worked them out .

I imagine I'll get shot down in flames for this but there is a case to be made for suggesting Evans HAS invested this money back into the club....just in advance of the sale?

..... warktheline - that's somewhat true, just like they worked McCarthy out, all too easily, light years back.

Great but of business but agree with those who say for Evans rather than the club

Good luck to the player. In other news Benyu has joined Oldham on loan 😂

Be interesting to see how he performs with a good manager at barnsley. I do tend to think the one we let go too early was Jack Marriot who looks very good at the moment seems to be improving all the time wonder who made the decision to let him go looks like a proper footballer to me in all the highlight programme on ch5, maybe he wasn't a proper bloke though :)

To turn £20k into £750k in one year is an exceptional return however you look at it; I wish my shares would do that!

I fear that he will prove that given decent service he is a quality striker.

One name to add to Marriot, Hourihane and all the rest, I know a Bradford City Supporter who tells me Paul Taylor is having a brilliant season. Proves that those who are not 'proper blokes' can also play

The money from this sale might go straight back into a contract extension for MM. I seriously hope not! What a thought, doesn't bear thinking about!

MM out!

warktheline - Agree with you there fella, just as teams have now worked us out with Garner and Waghorn in the side.

Our entire fanbase thought is was total garbage last season and couldn't even win a ball in the air despite his height. Now he is he greatest player about? He hasn't been scoring in the Championship, funny how so many choose to remember certain parts fo the story. Kiefer tried his best when he got on the pitch and wasn't given many minutes but we were in a bad position at the time and staring at the bottom three.

Given his supposed wage it seems that additional profit as well has funded a free transfer loan player for a year on roughly £17,000 a week. I wonder who that might be ?

He will only come back to haunt us!!
Why not spend the 750k to resign Jack Marriot, he's on fire, 19 goals this season. Maddison for posh seems a pretty good midfielder too. Or Tom Bradshaw who is on Micks radar seems decent at this level. Who knows! anymore Rangers bargains!!

Whatever you say or think about the man, McCarthy has turned water into wine for Evans yet again!

A great profit for the club, but MM has already said we can only bring in free transfers and loans so I don't see how the fans can be happy about any player sale if there is to be no reinvestment.

Barnsley have just been taken over by Chinese investors- they have money to spend - I think we have done well on this Moore deal.
The money will in some way I am sure be re-invested - Evans pumps in £4-6Mill a year.
We need some new players who are not crocks - if Waghorn gets injured I have no idea how we will score unless Celina produces some magic
